Dream Away

Brighid* The cool autumn air made the leaves come alive, they seemed to almost dance on the pathway before us..Ler's hand was so warm to the touch it felt like the summer sun shining down upon my skin. I felt a chili run down my spine as I realized my fate was now up to the elders. While I had never stood in their presence, it was said they were the first to wield magic. "Are you alright little witch? Your steps have slowed down. Do we need to rest a while?" Dragons are so hard-headed and weird. Or maybe it's just the human half. As it would seem that Ler was the one insisting on calling me witch no matter what. Lost in my own thoughts, it would seem my pace had faltered. "No dragon, we do not need to rest. Its just that my legs, while they are long, aren't as long as yours. It's almost like running, trying to keep up with you." Ler stopped so quickly that I bumped into his back. Slowly he turned around. I swear I saw a smirk upon his face. Enjoying this a little too much, dragon boy, aren't you? His eyes were back to the blue-green color as he looked me over. Sigh ok, so he wasn't about to just trust my word. I'm not sure that I can fully blame him, but it's still a bit annoying. "If you take a picture it'll last longer. How long will it take to get to the village, anyway?" Smirking Ler responds "Are you always like this? Not one for traveling or is it just the company you're not fond of?" Never breaking eye contact, I pull my hood back over my head. "I'm use to traveling in the shadows alone. Company isn't something I normally have the luxury of keeping. Unless you count animals." As if right on cue, a caw comes from a nearby tree. I lift my left hand from under my cloak and await my friend. The wait isn't long, as a graceful crow flies to perch upon my fingers. Digging in my pocket to retrieve the blueberries I have been collecting for my dear friend. Ever so gently, he takes them from my open palm one at a time. Cawing from time to time to show his happiness at the treat. "Well, it's good to see ya Cary. Smart boy not showing up sooner. Were you watching from the trees? Perhaps you were sent by Morrigan to watch over me?" Cary simply coos at me and looks over at Ler. He seemed fascinated by the beautiful black silk bird. And I wonder for a moment if dragons can understand the language of other animals? Is it possible for them to fully communicate? Then Ler speaks. "Is it Goddess Morrigan that you called upon? Did she grant you the power to make me your mate?" Cary clicks in Ler's direction before bowing to me. He has always taken his leave in this way. "Goodbye dear friend, stay safe." I watched Cary fly elegantly past the trees until I could no longer make out his form. Then I turned my gaze back upon Ler, who seemed to be analyzing the situation at hand. "Can dragons speak to other animals? Do you understand their languages?" "Focus Brighid answer my question first and I will answer yours." "Can we walk as we talk then? I am not sure that we will make it to the village. We are wasting daylight." His eyes pierce through me as if he is trying to gaze into my soul. "Is that the reason or would you prefer to not look me in the eye when speaking to me directly?" Taken back by his accusation, I am momentarily without words, so I just shrug and begin to walk. Yawing as fatigue begins to creep upon me. Dang it, I had really wanted a nice comfy bed to sleep in tonight. However, it may just not be in the cards. I feel my eyes water up as yet another yawn takes place. "Whichever Goddess I called, she answered, it's not as if it truly matters now does it? You said you had a lot to think over and figure out. Will knowing which Goddess it is help you decide for yourself what to do when it comes to me Ler?" He picked up his pace until he was right beside me. I could feel his eyes upon me once more. "It would be nice to be able to ask her why she granted your wish. She didn't have to allow you to cast that spell. Very few Goddesses choose to interfere in mortal matters. She chose to save you. Aren't you even a bit curious as to why?" Was I, did I really even care why she chose to grant me sanctuary by way of a mate bond? Witches weren't deities, so her interference in their affairs could just be for fun or out of boredom. But to allow me to make another deity, my mate was a little over the top even for a Goddess. There had to be some law forbidding such things to prevent chaos perhaps. "Never look a gift horse in the mouth. It is always best not to piss off a deity." as the words left my mouth I realized that I may have upset a 6'2 deity. Ler only chuckled and allowed me to set the pace for our steps. "Can we just rest somewhere out here? I am not sure I can go much further. My eyes are growing heavy." Scanning the trees for limbs that looked suitable to sleep in, as I continued to walk, not finding one appropriate where we stood. "So I take it you are scanning the trees so we can sleep there?" "Yes, but I just realized I don't even know if you are able to sleep in the trees?" "Can I? Yes, it is possible. Do I wish to do so? Not so much makes it harder for me to defend myself if it comes down to it. Being your size, though, I can see how it is the opposite for you." Ler laughed, "Well, go on then, pick a tree and I shall rest under it for tonight." To the right of us was a tall oak. Carefully, I climbed to the fourth branch. Taking my cloak off and using it as a pillow under my head. I could hear the rustling of the leaves below as Ler settled down for the night. "May Caer be with you Ler," was all I could muster before succumbing to the sleep Goddess.
