"Well, well, well. Who's this?" Nick asked.
I nearly jumped out of my skin at the sound of his voice.
"Uh," I said as I pushed Alessio.
Why did I let him get so close? Was he about to kiss me? Was I about to let him?
No, it seemed more like he wanted a hug. But yes, I really was going to let him. My heart was beating so fast. I was frozen in my spot. I was.. excited to see what he'd do next.
This is all fu.cked! I told him friends for a reason.
Alessio is by far the se.xiest man I've ever seen. I do not fall for se.xy men's words. Not when I know this is probably all just curiosity for him.
Still, I can't help how my heart races every time he gets closer to me. Or the blush that forms on my cheeks when he flirts shamelessly with me.
Who is this guy exactly? He literally came out of nowhere.
"Hi, I'm Alessio. You must be Nick." Alessio said as he turned around.
Nick looked Alessio up and down. Then he looked at me confused.
"You brought home a guy?" He asked me.
"No." I said.
"Yes," Alessio said at the same time.
I shook my head as Nick looked between the two of us.
"Does Sabina not usually bring guys home?" Alessio asked.
Nick looked at me. I shook my head at him, hoping he would understand to just keep his mouth shut. Nick smirked as he turned back to Alessio.
"Nope. You'd be the first. Usually she goes out." He said.
My jaw dropped. How was he able to make me sound innocent and sl.utty in the same sentence?
"Really?" Alessio asked as he glanced at me. "That makes me feel special."
Nick chuckled.
"Why don't we have a seat while Sab cooks. She's a great cook," he said.
The two of them sat at the small table. I turned around to start cooking for Nina. I can practically feel Alessio's eyes burning a hole in the back of my head.
"So, Alessio, do you go to school here? I haven't seen you around before," Nick asked.
My ears perked up at that. Come to think of it, I've never seen Alessio around either. He quite literally just popped out of nowhere.
"No I don't. I'm visiting a friend who goes to school here." He said.
I wonder who his friend is.
"Really? What friend? Maybe we know them." Nick asked.
"Nick." I scolded.
"What? I'm just curious," he said.
I rolled my eyes, and looked at Alessio.
"You don't have to answer him," I said.
"Do you want to know?" Alessio asked me.
I held my breath as he stared at me.
"We are trying to become friends, right?" He asked.
I nodded.
"Then I don't mind answering anything." Then he looked at Nick. "I'm sure we'll become fast friends too, Nick. So ask away."
"Cool, so who's your friend?" Nick asked.
"His name is Avery Valentin. He's a junior here," Alessio said.
"Your friends with Avery?!" Nick asked, shocked. "You hear that, Sab?"
I nodded with my back to them. I can't believe out of all the people he could be friends with, it would be Avery. Should I use this opportunity to figure out why Avery won't go out with Nina when he's clearly in love with her?
Nah, I'm sure that would be inappropriate.
"You two know Avery?" Alessio asked.
Nick scoffed.
"Sab and my sister know him better. Pretty sure he's obsessed with Nina." He said.
"He's not obsessed with her," I said. "He just likes her a lot, but refuses to tell her for some idiotic reason."
"That's true," Nick said. "But he's totally obsessed with her. You ever seen the way that he looked at Brett? Thought Avery was gonna ki.ll him."
"I wouldn't be opposed if he did at this point," I mumbled.
"Ohhhh," Nick said with a laugh. "You must not have heard what happened today."
I whipped around to face Nick.
"What do you mean? What happened?" I asked.
"Well-"
Nick was cut off by my phone ringing. I pulled it out of my back pocket to see that it was Nina. Speak of the devil.
"Hey, where are you?" I answered.
"Uhm, well, don't get mad." She said.
I groaned.
"So, after I left you and that hot guy that was clearly trying to take you out-"
"Get on with it." I interrupted her.
I saw Alessio smirking out of the corner of my eye. What's he smirking at? He didn't hear that from all the way over there, did he?
"Okay fine. So, I had some things to grab back in the school, and when I walked in.. Well, Avery was beating the sh,it out of Brett. Like beating the crap out of him. I have no idea what happened. I managed to break it up, but then Avery and I ran. I was too afraid he'd get in trouble. We're hiding out right now in some place near campus. Avery has some friends staying over too." She rushed out.
"Uh.. what?" I asked.
"Don't worry, I'm going to stay here until Avery tells me what happened. Even if it takes all night," she said.
I groaned again as I ran a hand down my face. Nick snickered from the table. How did he know about this before me?
"Hey, did you know that that hot guy is friends with Avery?" Nina asked.
"Alessio is not that hot." I heard Avery say in the background.
Alessio chuckled. I frowned at him. What, does this guy have super hearing or something?
"Have you seen him?" Nina asked incredulously. "I was thrilled when I saw how into Sabina he was. You should have seen it Av, he thought he was so smooth. Poor guy wouldn't stand a chance if I hadn't helped him."
I rolled my eyes.
"Wait, Alessio is with Sabina right now?" Avery asked.
"Yeah. He's a good guy, right? He won't like.. kil.l her or anything. Right?" Nina asked him.
"A bit late for that, Nin," I commented.
Suddenly, my phone was snatched out of my hand. I looked up to see Alessio put the phone to his ear.
"Nina, I never got to thank you for giving me the chance to have dinner with Sabina. We're going to be great friends. Tell Avery to mind his own business, and take good care of you for the night, mmkay?" Alessio said.
I vaguely heard Nina giggle on the other line. Alessio pulled the phone away, pressed the end button, and handed it back to me. I took it while staring at him stunned.
I shook my head, and turned back to what I was doing before Nina called.
"Guess it's just the three of us tonight," I mumbled.
"Actually..." Nick trailed off.
I whined dramatically as I looked up at him with pleading eyes.
"Sorry Sab, but I have a date tonight. I actually have to get going now," he said.
Nick stood up. He put his shoes on, and grabbed his keys. Then he looked at Alessio.
"Be good to my friend. Sabina is a nice girl who deserves a nice guy," he said.
"Oh my god." I groaned.
"Don't worry Nick. I'll treat her like the fu.cking queen she is." Alessio replied.
Nick smiled brightly at him. He turned to me, and winked. Then he was gone. Leaving me alone with Alessio.
"Guess it's just the two of us now, Sab," Alessio said teasingly.
"Why do I feel like this was planned from the beginning?" I muttered.
Alessio laughed.
"Anything I can help with?" He asked.
I shook my head.
"I do better when people just stay out of my way," I told him.
"Got it. Should I play music then?" He asked.
"Sure." I mumbled.
Alessio started playing music on his phone. I was surprised to find that I knew the song. It's not like my music taste is specific though.
Maybe Alessio and I actually have something in common. I shouldn't have been so hard on him. As long as he's not trying to get into my pants, things should be fine. Maybe once he gets to know me more, his curiosity will die down, and he'll see me as an actual friend.
"So," I said, trying to start up conversation. "You're here visiting Avery, how long are you staying?" I asked.
Maybe he just wants a fling while he's here. I might be able to actually get behind that. A little romance for a few days could be nice.
"Not sure. We're helping him with a little something. Could take all summer, could take just a few days. Although, I like it here more and more by the second," he said, smiling at me.
I blushed, but brushed off the comment. No way that he's serious. He doesn't even know me.
"W-we're?" I asked instead.
"Yeah, me and three friends came to help Avery out. A personal project, so don't ask questions about that," Alessio said.
"Oh, okay." I said.
Why does it bother me that I'm not allowed to ask?
"Aren't your friends going to miss you?" I asked.
Alessio snorted.
"I doubt it." He said. "I'm not sure that they like being around me that much."
I glanced up at him.
"That doesn't sound very friend-like," I commented.
Alessio shrugged.
"I'm used to it," he said casually.
Used to it? What is that supposed to mean?
"Well, I certainly hope you don't think all friends treat each other like that. I don't hang out with people whose company I don't enjoy," I said.
Why am I feeling so defensive for him right now?
"Does that mean that you enjoy my company? Cause you would have kicked me out by now, right?" He asked, smirking.
I rolled my eyes at him.
"I'll let you know by the end of the night." I told him.
Alessio beamed at me.
"So, how did you guys meet Avery?" I asked.
"We went to high school together." He told me.
"Oh, the private school. Does that mean you're rich too?" I asked.
Then I blushed as I realized what I just asked.
"Uhm, I didn't ask that to like, try to.. Well, I mean that.. I didn't mean to sound like a gold digger or something. My family has money too. So I'm not fishing... or.. anything.." I said awkwardly.
Alessio laughed.
"Don't worry about it. I don't think you're looking for my money. Even if you were.. I doubt you could ever drain me. I come from old money, and I have a good paying job. My family actually owns the private school. One of my older sisters runs it. One of my older brothers is a teacher there." He told me.
"Really? That's pretty cool." I said. "What do you do for work?" I asked.
Alessio closed his mouth for the first time all night. I raised a brow at him. I don't really want to push, but.. His job isn't dangerous, is it?
"If I told you.. Then I'd have to kill you." He said.
I paled.
"Uh, that was supposed to be a joke," Alessio said as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to," I said. "I just.. It's not dangerous is it?" I asked.
Alessio smirked at me.
"Are you worried about me, Sabina?" He asked.
I scoffed, making Alessio laugh.
"Don't worry. No job is too dangerous for me," he said.
I guess I'll just have to accept that as an answer.
"So," I said. "How many siblings do you have?"
