Jaemin finally entered the institute after he could leave the shop where he and Jinwoo got their suits from. He wasn’t really bothered to stay there for a longer period of time anyway. His younger brother was driving him insane with way too many questions then he was supposed to have. Jaemin knew that Jinwoo was just excited to welcome Florence inside their house, finally a new member of their family but Jaemin wasn’t ready for this at all. He wasn’t ready with for this wedding. He wasn’t ready to make Florence a part of his life. He would make her unhappy because he had no feelings for her whatsoever.
“Here you are my son.” His father called out in his deep but yet cracky voice. His wrinkles were seen more now and his grey hair was gone. Jaemin frowned and looked at him confused but then realised that he must have dyed his hair.
“You know I am not getting any younger. My son is getting married. It was a special occasion. I had to dye my hair. Stop giving me those judgy eyes.” His father scolded him in a jokingly way. Jaemin forced a smile around his lips and nodded his head. He didn’t wanted to show his father that he was against his idea. He wanted to do this because he knew that his father wouldn’t make him do something if it could have been bad for him or the family.
His father saw Florence as a blessing. A blessing that the family needed for a very long time. Not was she only stabilising the family with the money her father would provide but Jaemin's father was sure that Florence would make his son the happiest man on earth. After everything Jaemin emotionally and mentally went through when it comes to women or even his job, his father knew it was time for him to get someone reliable. He had met Florence several times at the hospital she worked at. She didn't really know who he was but seeing how kindly she acted with her patients, he was convinced that she couldn't bring any harm to his son or family. Her father on the other hand didn't seem to be as kind and generous as his daughter was but being relieved that Florence wasn't anything like her father, he took the opportunity to make her his daughter in law and wife to Jaemin.
They would look good together.
Her fiery red hair with her almost mono eyelids and blue icing eyes. It was quick to tell that she was half Korean and half White but seeing how she was acting, Jaemin's father was sure that she was brought up here in South Korea.
"Aniyo, appa. You know I don't think like that. Mum will love this." Jaemin joked slightly while looking at his father. His grey hair was seriously all gone. He indeed looked a bit younger than he used to. His brown, tired eyes piercing into his as he was questioning what his son meant with his comment. He raised his eyebrow up as he looked at him.
"Yah! What do you mean with that? What are you trying to imply, you punk?" His father said in a quick manner, making Jaemin laugh uncontrollably. He shook his head as he looked at his confused father. He truly didn't mean anything wrong but he also knew how serious he would get once Jaemin's mother was included.
These two still loved one another and probably even more since the first day they had met one another. Jaemin truly had seen no one being so much in love as his own parents. They barely fought and they were still clinging onto each other every single day. That was the type of relationship he wanted with his partner, his significant other but he wasn't that lucky. His ex lovers were horrible to him. They always tried to change him as a person and his stupid self, always allowed it.
He did everything to please his ex lovers but they were never satisfied. It was the worst mistake he had ever done. He wished he would have met the right person and fell in love, and maybe marry that person but his entire life took a turn when his father introduced this marriage. He didn't even think about it. He agreed to it because love for him would never happen in any possible way.
He knew what he would do if Florence comes tomorrow. He would make sure she knew what her limits were in the house and with him. He wouldn't change for her or even dare satisfying her in any possible way like he had done with other women. He wasn't going to please any woman anymore. Not sexually or mentally. He was going to be stern with her. Whether she loved it or not. That's how they life was going to be because there was no way he could fall in love with her and he doesn't think that Florence would love him too.
This was way to sudden and they hadn't even met one another. He will be waiting for her at the aisle tomorrow and that will be the first time he will see her but he didn't complain about that. Even when his mother suggested to meet her before the wedding so they could speak. Jaemin was quick to make an excuse and prevent that from happening.
There was no way he wanted to be emotionally attached to Florence. Maybe she didn't deserve this kind of treatment from him but he didn't wanted to get hurt again. It was better to protect himself from that rather than truly trying to fall in love with her which he didn't believe in. Every time he felt like he was falling in love, something would happen or the feelings wouldn't be returned.
The god of love had cursed him.
Lee Jaemin wasn't supposed to be in in love or be capable of loving someone else.
"I am trying to say that mother will love this look on you. What else did you think?" Jaemin smirked at his father after he finally left the chain of his thoughts. He couldn't go too deep into them. It would make him more restless than he already was. In a few hours, he would be living his las time as a normal person before becoming a husband to someone he didn't even know.
Jaemin's father smiled unceasingly and lifted his eyebrow. "You will know how it feels ones Florence comes into your life. It will change it for good. You will only want to look good for her and have all her attention on you. It is almost like you will become a baby again in a way." His father expressed a lot of his feelings in an abrupt manner that confused and startled Jaemin. He didn't wanted this and never asked for it anyway.
He wouldn't want Florence's attention or love. He didn't care about it. It was meaningless to him. He sighed and weakly smiled at his father to show him a sense of happiness. It was as if almost no one noticed that he wasn't happy about it. His parents just think that he isn't ready which he wasn't at all. He wasn't ready to take a responsibility of a husband. It was already too much to be someone's boyfriend. He just always met the wrong people.
He surely expected Florence to be the wrong person too but the only difference was that she was tied to him. There was a legal agreement that they would become one and share their lives with one another no matter what would happen. He wouldn't just leave her behind like that. He would be there for her if she needed him but he wouldn't want to love her. He didn't wanted to and he would make sure it wouldn't happen.
"Look son, I know you are worried about it but I promise you. She will treat you good. She will love you unconditionally. I have met her many times and I have seen what kind of a person she is. She is a good person and she is caring. She will care for you." His words hit Jaemin right in his heart but he didn't wanted to believe it. He looked at his father slightly confused, not understanding how he knew her. He furrowed and looked questionable at his father.
"How do you know her?" He questioned him, showing some interest for the first time that made his father's heart slightly flutter out of happiness. He smiled and patted him on his shoulder before thinking what he should tell him. He couldn't tell him that he would go there for regular check ups. It would worry the entire family and he didn't wanted to do that before a day of massive happiness coming into their lives.
"I have been to the hospital she works at to have some meetings with our private doctors and nurses, and I have seen how generous and kind she is with everyone around her. She almost like a fragile puppy." His father said, making Jaemin laugh at the way he was describing Florence.
"No but seriously. Even if you don't want to fall for her, you will. She has a pure heart and it shows through her actions. I feel like we have done her a favour of coming into our house, having her as a part of our family." He said in low tone. Jaemin darted his eyes up at the remark his father made. He became even more confused when his father exhaled sharply as if he was deeply concerned about something that was bothering him and he was barely like that with anyone other than his own family.
"What do you mean with that?" Jaemin asked a bit curious. Jaemin's father shrugged his shoulders to release some tension and looked at his son who was finally showing some interest in his future wife. His eyes seemed sad as he was already thinking about it.
"Her father doesn't love her. I know it because I am a father and the way he acts around her is horrible. The poor girl is terrified of him. That's probably why she agreed to this marriage. I am not sure if it is true but the maids would often gossip and say that she was abused by his father. He wasn't scared to hurt her when he didn't get what he wanted or just simply release his stress on her." He exhaled sharply, showing how bad he felt for his daughter in law and deeply Jaemin felt bad too. He felt horrible to know that Florence was probably going through that.
"What about her mother?" Jaemin let out unwillingly, wanting to know more about her in just a few minutes of talking about her. His father shook his head. "She is not around anymore. She passed away when Florence was very young. One of the eldest maids brought her up and is a mother figure to her. She will be probably tomorrow at the wedding but her father won't be."
Jaemin didn't conceal his irritation about that. Another thing he hated was how women would be treated unfairly and from the looks of it, Florence didn't have any rights about her own life. Her father didn't even care enough to be at her wedding.
"Good, I don't want an asshole to be there anyway." Jaemin groaned in annoyance. Now his own self believed not to treat Florence so coldly as he was thinking to do. She didn't needed another person to be so horrible to her. She didn't deserve that.
"Yah. He is still your father in law. Show some respect." His father immediately scolded him but Jaemin couldn't care. He just rolled his eyes and nodded his head.
"She will be happier with us." Jaemin mentioned, making his father proud but smile at the same time. He slightly shook his head. "She might be happy because of having a family again but she will sincerely be happier with you only." His father said again with his deep lovingly words, making Jaemin sigh at it. He just nodded his head, not wanting to argue or even think about it. He didn't know how to. Not after hearing everything he just had.
"Florence King." Waylon's voice vibrated through Florence's ears, making her flinch and sit up straight in her bed as her father walked in her room. He would never come into her room. The only place she would see him mostly was in the living room. She darted her eyes up, looking at the man she called father but didn't feel like he was one to her. The word 'father' even became meaningless to her at this point.
"Yes, father." She politely answered as she looked at him. His brown hair was neatly brushed back while he was in a suit, ready to go on another business trip. She swallowed her saliva down when she realised that he was holding something in his hands. She wasn't sure what it was and she didn't know if she wanted to know. She never had good experiences with these kind of situations.
"I have a gift for you before you leave." His words surprised Florence so much that a smile appeared around her lips. This was the first time her father thought of her and she could barely believe it. The amount of happiness she was feeling at this moment was insane. She nodded her head, ready to see what he got for her.
He put the packet in front of her, making her eyes look at the packet, ready to see what was inside there. She took the packet and unwrapped the paper that was concealing what was inside it. She smiled when she saw a snow globe with a picture of her and her mother inside there. Tears filled her eyes unwillingly as she looked at her mother's smile, wishing she could have been here.
"I know how much your mother means to you and I know how much you meant to her. This is a wedding gift from her not me." He said harshly. She looked up at her father with a smile around her lips. "Thank you..." She almost whispered.
"I don't owe you anything. After you get married, don't you even dare coming back to me. I have given your in laws enough money. From the day of your wedding, I am not your father anymore and you are not my daughter. From that day, you die for me. Don't even dare calling this your house because it isn't. I had to keep you here for the sake of it and you cost me already too much. I am finally done with you." He spoke his harsh words out, stabbing her with them deep inside of her heart.
Her sudden happiness was washed away with the hurtful words her father spoke out to her. She nodded her head slowly before looking away from his glance. He didn't wait a second and left her room as if this was the only thing he wanted to do, making sure she would never come back to him, even if something could go wrong at her in laws house.
Tears streamed down her cheeks as she sobbed softly, pressing the snow globe against her chest as if she was hugging her mother.
"Only if you were really here..." She whispered softly.
