10. Job Hunting

"I would appreciate it if you told me you were going out. I was worried." Sky queried the moment Kayleigh closed the door behind her. "My bad." Kayleigh shrugged and started towards the stairs. "Where were you?" He asked. "At a beauty pageant." She said referring to her outfit. "Can't you tell?" "I meant afterwards..." "I didn't realize I had to report my every minute activity with you" She folded her arms and frowned at him. "Until I assign an escort to you and we're fully mated, I have to know where you are. My pack operates on certain laws as I've told you. And you can easily be mistaken for an intruder in which case you might be attacked." "Then it will please you to know that I was not mistaken for an intruder and was in the safe capable hands of your second-in-command." She said then started up the stairs. It took a full five seconds for him to reply. "You were what?" His voice was flat, low and icy. It made her freeze in her steps. Just as she decided to ignore him, he appeared before her. His face expressionless but for the fire in his eyes "You mean to tell me you were with the guy who was on top of you, mistook you for his mate and believed it to the extent he challenged my claim? Do expect me to be okay with that?" He asked quietly. When he put it like that, nope. There was no way he would be okay with it. But she didn't really care if he wasn't okay with it. Afterall it's not like he was her boyfriend or anything. She didn't even like him. Her subconscious snickered at that. "You can feel however you want to feel. It really isn't my business." "It is your business, Sweetheart. And you know it. So, I will appreciate it if you stayed away from him, at least until our bond is secured." "That's not going to happen." She assured him. "Oh it will happen. And soon." He promised her and she tilted her chin to glare at him in answer. He had to exert quite an effort to stop himself from pressing his lips on her upturned one. It looked so soft. He let out a breath. "But until then, stay away from him. For all our sakes." "I will do what I want to do Wesley." She assured him and side stepped him to continue up the stairs. "You are trying to start an in-pack fight. That doesn't bother you?" "You will soon come to know that am not a goody two shoes. If you want to tear each other up be my guest." She proclaimed and turned the corner. Sky sighed heavily. The lady was bound to drive him mad. She wasn't even trying to be understanding of the situation. He didn't know how to explain it to her. He wished they'd met differently but it was taken out of his hands. He had an urge to burst into her room and demand she understand him. He doubted that would work though. He highly doubted it. So instead, he started to his study to sort out her conditions. ∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆ What to wear...Kayleigh taped her chin lightly. She wasn't makeup obsessed, mostly because she was not very good at it. But what she wore... that was important. Motive of the day was battle. If she was going to stay there, she was going to make sure that Alpha told her every single detail of the battle and maybe try to help so it would be over quicker. She really didn't want to stay here. 'You sure about that?' her subconscious mocked "Oh...shut up" She snapped. Why couldn't she have a thought in peace. "I didn't say anything." She heard from behind her and once again, only years of practice kept her from yelping. But her heart rate sped. She turned sharply to see Sky standing at the doorway of her closet arms crossed wearing a dark blue suit. Much like the one he wore when they met. He looked so dashing that day he took her breath away. He looked amazing today as well. With his well-arranged hair a little higher on the left and parted at the right side. She felt breathless but forced herself to believe it was the shock of him sneaking up on her that made her feel that way. "I wasn't talking to you." She injected a pile of irritation to her voice. "So you make a habit of soliloquizing?" He asked with a frown and she shrugged. "My subconscious needed a stern talking to." "I see." He nodded then she felt his gaze travel up and down her body. It was then she realized she was still tying a towel. "Hey dude. Eyes up here." She informed him and he looked up at her. "You're beautiful" He whispered sincerely looking straight at her face. It made her heart beat that much faster. "And you have amazing legs. I've wanted to tell you that since you walked into my office." She just stared at him dumbstruck. It wasn't in her nature to be left speechless. But what could she say when the most amazing male specimen she had ever come in contact with called her beautiful? She knew she should say something. But she couldn't get her mind to look past his face. Slowly, her gaze went to his lips. He'd kissed her yesterday. A hard, passionate beautiful kiss. She wanted him to kiss her again. Now. Sky noticed the direction of her gaze and if she continued to stare at him like that, he wouldn't be able to stop himself from pulling her to him and smashing his lips on hers. It wasn't as if he had much control even when she was arguing with him. But now, when she visibly wanted to do things with her mouth that wasn't arguing, and was wearing no more than a knee length towel, he was finding it extremely difficult to stop himself. So, he tried his luck. He took a few steps closer to her and she watched him quietly. "If you want to kiss me you can just do it." He whispered when he was a few inches away from her. She snapped out of it immediately and took almost four steps back. "I do not want to kiss you." She assured him heatedly though her cheeks flushed a little. "I thought so." He sighed wearily then stepped back "Get dressed. We're going out." "Where are we going?" She questioned. "I'm taking you on a tour of the place. Then we'll find you a job if you still want one." He stated then walked out without waiting for her reply, leaving her glaring after him.
