CHAPTER 85 For a second, I think Jake’s here to apologize. That’s the look he’s got on his face, that sort of humble expression. A little timid. But he doesn’t come right out and say he’s sorry, and I’m glad he doesn’t because I honestly couldn’t tell you right now what that boy has to feel bad about. Of course, some of that’s my mental fog. It’s like everything in that Grandma Lucy video was so intense, my brain cells have shut down one by one until all I’ve got are the basic functions left. Jake looks me right in the eyes.
