SOPHIA
AGE: 23
I grit my teeth and set my narrowed eyes onto the target. My hands are clenched into tight balls in front of my face. My body twisted into an angle that took months for me to perfect.
Mustering up all the strength that I have, I let out a war cry and swing my leg, my foot clashes with the hard object that my trainer is holding.
"Dammit." I mutter as the object still doesn't break.
It's been two years and my kicks are still not good enough. Don't get me wrong, I'm one of best trainees out here but kickboxing hasn't really been my piece of art.
My trainer is a handsome man in around his early thirties. His eyes remind me of a dark ocean, I often wonder what story they hold.
He hasn't so much as given me a second glance. But I can't help the strange liking I have towards him. He's the first male that I've ever liked.
Meaning my first crush. At the age of twenty three.
God, I want to laugh at the irony of this situation. Here I am, liking my trainer while my mother finds a 'perfect' match for me every day.
"Focus, Trainee." Mr.Chang's voice pulls me out of my daze.
See, he doesn't even call me by my name.
I straighten up and correct my stance.
Ten minutes through and I'm on the verge of whining. Why can't my kicks be good like my boxing!?
He also sighs. "You aren't focusing on the target. What have I taught you?"
I release a breath. "Don't let your emotions control you. Know your target and hit it." My words are firm.
He nods and for a moment I think I see a hint of pride on his face. But it's gone as quickly as it came.
"Come on, try again. And this time think of the target as a person." He gives me a knowing look. "The person."
My lips tremble. My heart feels like it's in my throat. I have no idea how he knows that there's a person that affects me.
But it brings back memories. Instead of being the weak, fragile girl that I was and crying, I strut my chin up and focus.
My leg swings up once again and my foot collides with the object.
I watch in stunned silence, when it breaks into pieces and falls to the ground.
I gaze up at Mr. Chang and a small smile plays at the corners of his lips.
My heart almost bursts with happiness and my mouth curls into a pleasant smile.
"Come on now don't be so excited. You still have a long way to go to be perfect." He says and gets into position.
"Yessir!"
