Carlos’s P.O.V
I was enjoying my night but I was very distracted…the cause of my distraction? Winter! I could not keep my eyes off her all night but she tried her best to avoid me all night unless she really had to come over to tend to my family. Winter had been on my mind since that night I punched that creep. She has been stealing my thoughts more than anyone ever has before
“Carlos sweetheart are you OK? You seem a little distracted tonight?” my mum asked from beside me
“Yes I am OK. It is Winter, I can’t stop thinking about her.” I said
“You mean the pretty girl who has been tending to us all night?” she asked and I nodded
“Why do you not go find her…talk to her? You only met, it is not like you being this way when it comes to woman.” She said
“I know. It is actually the second time we have met. We met a couple of weeks ago briefly.” I smiled
“Oh you did. Well son, go find her if she is what is on your mind.” She smiled
I nodded, deciding to go on search for her but I could not find her. Maybe she was on break or left…I really hope she has not left. I decided to head into the kitchen, finding Dinah cause she will know. I knew Dinah quite well, she does a lot of events for our family, and she is probably one of the best chefs /catering company around. I walked into the kitchen, looking around
“Carlos, you OK? You look a little lost.” She giggled
“I am looking for someone, could you help me? She is part of your team tonight.” I smiled
“Winter is out back, taking a break.” She smiled
How did she know I meant Winter? I looked at her, confused
“Winter is a friend of mine and I know things.” She winked
I laughed, shaking my head at her “Thank you.” I added before heading out back.
I looked around, not seeing Winter at first but then I see a figure sitting on the ground, looking lost in her own little world. I smiled to myself, watching her for a moment. She really was beautiful…breathtakingly beautiful. I slowly made my way over, feeling my nerves begin with the closer I got to her.
“Hello again Miss Winter.” I said nervously
She slowly turned her head to look up at me
“Are you stalking me?” she said, a seriousness to her tone
“Um…what…eh…no…oh…hmm.” I stuttered out, rubbing the back of my neck
She let out a loud laugh, her head falling back when she did. Why is she laughing? Is she messing with me?
“I am only messing with you Carlos.” She laughed
“Oh…thank God. Can I sit?” I asked
She nodded, turning away from me again. I took the spot next to her on the ground. When I did she turned to me again, giving me a shy smile. I chuckled, my presence seeming to make her a little nervous. I am glad I am not the only one.
“You enjoying your night?” she asked
“Yes, well trying to but I have been very distracted.” I chuckled
“What is distracting you?” she asked
I was not sure if I should tell her it was her or if that would be to forward. Then again I am a great believer in honesty. I do not believe in lying, there is no point in it. I was brought up to be honest.
“You.” I stated simply
Her eyes widened, her mouth ajar as she looked at me, a shocked look on her face. Her expression made me laugh a little.
“Me? Why?” she asked
“Cause you have been on my mind since that first night we met. I never thought we would meet again. I am sorry if that was too forward but that is who I am. I am honest and get straight to the point.” I said
She opened her mouth to say something, soon changing her mind. A silence fell between us…an awkward one at that. Maybe I should not have said what I did so soon. I reached in, placing my hand on her knee, her eyes meeting mine again and I swear I heard her breathing become heavier when she did. She sighed, running her hands through her blonde hair
“You have been on my mind too since that night Carlos.” She whispered, only loud enough for me to hear
“I have?” I asked shocked
I see her face turn crimson red as she nodded
“But that don't mean anything.” She added
“It clearly does mean something Miss Winter.” I said
“Carlos you know I am right. It would never work. You and I come from two very different worlds.” She said, a sadness to her tone
What should that have to do with anything?
“What does that have to do with it?” I asked softly
“I don't fit into your world Carlos.” She said sighing, taking to her feet
She went to walk away from me but I was not gonna let her go...not again. I jumped quickly to my feet, grabbing her arm gently, turning her to face me
“How do you know that Winter If you don't give me a chance? Yes I live a privileged life...something I have always had but I am a decent guy Winter. I am not some stuck up rich guy that looks down on people. At the end of the day I am still human...you and I are not much different.” I said
“We are very different Carlos.” She said shaking her head at me
I reached in, placing my hands gently on her waist
“Give me a chance Winter? One date?” I asked hopeful
“I don't know Carlos. I am not someone who lets many people in. I only have three people in my life Carlos that I trust. I am not an easy person to get to know.” She sighed
I reached in, stroking her cheek with my thumb. She whimpered, moving into my touch, her eyes closing over
“I have time Winter. Go for a drink with me after the party finishes?” I asked
She slowly opened her eyes too look at me, a softness to her eyes. She sucked on her lower lip, slowly nodding her head. With that a wide smile creeped on my lips, making her giggle.
“I will text you when I am done and we can go somewhere.” She smiled sweetly “I better get back to work.” She added
“I will see you soon beautiful.” I smiled before she ended back in
I was glad she had agreed to meet me later, would give me a chance to get to know her better. I headed back in, flashing Winter a quick smile before heading back to my family.
“Did you find her?” my mum asked
“Yes. We are going for a drink later.” I smiled
“Well that is good. It is about time you get back out there son.” She smiled
“I know mum.” I smiled back
I was feeling nervous a little too about being alone with her, she was unlike anyone else I have ever came across in my life.
