“Daaaad!!!” Emily ran downstairs heading to the kitchen, this was her first day in a new school and her father was yet to come downstairs. She was so going to be late.
She pulled her hair out of her jacket and adjusted her glasses. Her eyes moved to the kitchen to see the maid frying something on the fire.
“Good morning madam Rosetta” Emily said with a sweet smile on her face.
“Hey sweetheart, how are you doing? Did you sleep well you look tired?” Rosetta wiped her hand on her apron as she picked some plates.
“I am good, and no I didn’t I was having an upset stomach which kept me up almost up all night” Emily pouted.
“Oh my baby, sorry about that. Are you feeling better now?” Rosetta was saying with worry lacing her voice.
“Yes I am, thank you very much” Emily’s face immediately brightened up seeing the pancakes behind Rosetta, “oh my sweet God, are those pancakes? They are my favorite” she rushed over to grab them before taking a bite out of it.
“Dear goodness, you are such a child Emily” Rosetta said rolling her eyes at Emily’s childish behavior.
“Emi sweetheart, I am sorry I am late, we have to go now” Her father said stepping into the house from the back door.
“Dad, where have you been?” Emily frowned at her father wiping her hands and mouth with a white napkin.
“I am sorry, can we just leave now? How are you feeling now?” Her father said placing a gentle kiss on her forehead.
“Yes, we can and I am feeling good now” She replied, walking behind her father. “Bye madam Rosetta” she waved her hand at the woman as they walked out of the house closing the door behind them.
“You look tired sweetheart, are you good?” Her father asked before opening the door of his white SUV van.
“Is it that obvious?” She ran her fingers through her brown hair looking at her father.
“No it is not, I hope you’re not nervous?” He asked her as he started the engine of the car
“Well I am a little bit, it is my first day in the university and I don’t know how to feel or act, I mean I will be seeing new people who I have no idea who they are” Emily sighed, she had always wanted to go to Snowflakes university since she was a child so she worked really hard to be able to get admitted into it. Now that she was in and going to start today her mind was in so many places and her stomach was doing a flip flop.
“You will be fine sweetheart, you are a brave girl and I know you will able to do this” Her father gave her a gentle pat on the head.
“Thank you dad” Emily flashed him a smile and turned to look outside the window, it was drizzling a little because it had rained heavily the previous night.
It was an hour drive to her school because her house was in the country side and her school was in the city. Her father’s car parked in front of the school gate because no car was allowed to enter the school compound.
“Give me a call when your classes are over okay?” Her father said.
“I will, thank you dad. I love you” Emily placed a kiss on her father’s cheek, she unbuckled her seat belt and climbed down the car.
“Love you too Emi” Her father said as he watched her walk into the school compound, the smile which was on his face slowly fell. He stared at the gate for a few minutes before drove away.
Emily walked to the receptionist who was a young lady in her mid thirties. “Good morning ma’am”
“Ma’am? Please call me Mrs Williams. Is this your first day in snowflakes university?” Mrs Williams asked her.
“Yes Mrs Williams, it is my first day here” Emily responded with a bright smile.
“Oh how lovely, you are welcome to Snowflakes, what is your name and can I have your file?” Mrs Williams said.
“I am Emily Salvador. Here” Emily pulled out the file and handed it to the woman.
Mrs Williams collected the file, opening it as her eye scanned through the content in it. “Your class in on the school floor, the first room on the right” she said returning the file back to Emily.
“Thank you Mrs Williams, have a nice day” Emily said and walked away, “You too” she heard the woman say as she hurried towards the direction which the receptionist said to her.
She was panting hard when she gently opened the door to the classroom, her heart was racing in her chest as the teacher and the other student turned to look at her.
“And you are?” The teacher gave her a questioning look.
“Emily Salvador, I am a fresher here” Emily said almost immediately.
“Oh Miss Salvador, you were supposed to be here twenty minutes earlier” The teacher said and Emily mouthed a sorry, “I will let it go because it is your first day but you should know I don’t condole late coming in my class” The teacher said with a serious look on his face.
“Thank you sir, It would not happen again” Emily flasher the man a small smile.
“Good, You can take a seat beside that girl in a pink hoodie” The teacher pointed and Emily’s eyes followed his hand to see an empty seat beside the girl in a pink hoodie.
Emily walked quickly to her seat, pulling her books out of her back she faced the teacher who had already done a lot already. She could not ignore the awkward smile the girl beside her was flashing, the girl was smiling like she had won a lottery.
