Chapter 16 Be Careful Of What Happens At Night

1903 Words
Sitting in Ailsa's car, they returned to school together. Demi went directly to the dormitory under the excuse of being unwell. Ivan didn't ask much and allowed her to leave.      As soon as Ivan returned to his office and light a cigarette, Ailsa pushed the door open. She waved to dispel the smoke in the room. "You are quite addicted to cigarettes."       Ivan smiled and put the cigarette out. "Principal Ailsa, what can I do for you?"       "It's about Demi. Ivan, are you really going to pay back for her?" Ailsa sat down across from Ivan.       Ivan scratched his head. "If the two rascals come to meet me, I have to pay it back. Whether Demi wants to explain it or not, the receipt is true. Demi admitted that if she refused to pay the money, she would be in trouble. "       "Ivan, it's wise to let you be the headteacher of Class 3." Ailsa added with a nod "But you can't do it. I haven't paid you yet."       "Principal Ailsa, do you mean the school will stand out?" Ivan asked.       "Of course not." Ailsa glanced at Ivan. "It is impossible for the school to give her money. The Cincinnati Country Day School is not a charity, but a private school. If the school paid back the loan for every student, we would go bankrupt."       Ivan felt his heart sank after hearing her words. He was just joking around, but Ailsa was serious, exactly like a businessman who merely cared about profit.       Ivan smiled awkwardly.       Ailsa seemed to see through Ivan's thoughts. She softened her attitude, and said calmly, "Ivan, I think you'd better learn about it in detail, figuring out what business she is doing. If she has been deceived, we can find other ways to help her. Paying back the loan is far from enough. We must solve the problem completely. What do you think?"       Ivan looked at Ailsa and didn't speak.       "Ivan, I hope you can solve this problem completely and make Demi behave herself in the future. If so, Class 3 would turn much better. If you succeed, the school can give you a reward no less than 10,000 dollars." Ailsa looked at Ivan.       It turned out that Ailsa intended to make a deal with him. Ivan suddenly felt that this beautiful principle was tricky enough. He answered with a smile, "Principal Ailsa, what if I failed?"       "There is no if. You must succeed." Ailsa responded categorically. "Ivan, I believe you can do this. Otherwise, you won't be a qualified class teacher."       "Principal Ailsa, it seems that if I failed, I must leave the school." Ivan also got serious.       Ailsa smiled faintly but did not respond.       She had acquiesced since she didn't speak. Ivan knew it well.       "I have something else to do. I'm leaving first." Ailsa got up but sat down suddenly again with her chest pressed by her hands.       "Principal Ailsa, what's wrong with you?" Ivan asked hurriedly.       Ailsa frowned. "My chest hurts a little bit."       "Chest pain?" Ivan looked at Ailsa's chest. Under the thin clothes were her plump bosoms. He wanted to ask but had to keep silent out of embarrassment. Finally, Ivan turned around and poured a glass of water for Ailsa.       Ailsa took a sip before letting out a sigh, regaining her composure.       "Principal Ailsa, should I accompany you to the hospital?" Ivan asked considerately.       Ailsa shook her head. "Just an ailment. It will relapse from time to time. I'm okay."       "Ailment?" Ivan paused.       "Yes, I've suffered it since I was born. I went to see a doctor before, but they couldn't figure out the cause. Gradually, I got used to it." Ailsa said softly.       Ivan hummed.       "It's okay now." Ailsa walked to the entrance with a smile but stopped at the door. "Ivan, there is one more thing I forgot to notify you. There is a teacher on night watch every day, Mr. Green asked for a leave today. Can you do it for him tonight?"       "The whole night?"       Ailsa nodded.       "No problem." Ivan agreed happily.       "Well, go to meet Director Hamilton at the Academic Affairs Office in a moment. He will tell you the details." Ailsa took a second thought but was unable to think of other things. She opened the door finally.       Ivan shouted to Ailsa, "Principal Ailsa."       "Anything else?"       "Yes." Ivan stepped forward. "I think the security guard at the door should be disciplined."       "You mean Eric?" Ailsa turned to Ivan.       Ivan smiled.       "Eric is a distant relative of Director Oscar of the Bureau of Education, so he came to Cincinnati Country Day School as a security guard. Director Oscar knew about it. The Bureau of Education is in charge of the school, so..."       Ailsa stared at Ivan and didn't continue. No wonder Eric, a humble security guard, would be so arrogant. It turned out that his family background was powerful. The social relations here were quite complicated.       Ailsa left. Ivan went to the Academic Affairs Office to meet Director Hamilton and asked him about the night patrol. In fact, the night watch was quite simple. He just needed to patrol the campus twice and then went to sleep in the duty room.       Ivan took the key to the duty room and a large flashlight from Director Hamilton before going to Class 3 to have a check.       Since everything was okay, Ivan was relieved. When he was about to go back to the office, Sam came out of the bathroom. Both of them were taken aback. "Sam, why aren't you in the classroom?"       Ivan asked first.       "Mr. Frank, I just had a stomachache, so I went to the toilet. I asked for leave ahead of time." Sam pointed at the door to the classroom.       Ivan glanced at the door. "Are you okay?"       "I feel much better now," Sam answered with a chuckle.       "Hurry to the classroom." Ivan kept a straight face. Sam rushed past Ivan like a monkey before turning around, "Mr. Frank, are you on night watch today?"       Ivan looked at the large flashlight in his hand. "Yes, what do you want?"       "Nothing. I'm just asking." Sam smiled again and entered the classroom.       Standing in the hallway, Ivan kept thinking about Sam's expression just now. Did he plot anything? Forget it, Ivan smiled and went back to his office. He didn't believe Sam dared to rob him in the middle of the night.       The high students at Cincinnati Country Day School used to attend night self-study courses. When students from other schools in Cincinnati City suffered accidents on their way home, the Education Bureau ordered all the schools to cancel night self-study courses.       At six o'clock in the afternoon, the classes were over. All the students were full of joy. Ivan stood by the window and looked at the school gate. Many cars gathered there. The parents who were waiting outside to pick up their children stood in a row, Eric and the other two security guards were yelling something passionately.       Ivan smiled. The kids were really pampered. As high school students, they had to be picked up by their parents.       While watching the scene of bustle, he heard someone knocking on the door.       Ivan withdrew his gaze and let the visitor come in. Thomas pushed the door open, walked in and closed the door casually.       "Thomas, you didn't go home?" Ivan asked.       "Mr. Frank, do you patrol the campus at night?" Thomas glanced at the desk and put a flashlight on it.       "Yes." Ivan was a little puzzled. How come even Thomas cared so much about it?       "Mr. Frank, be careful when you patrol the campus at night," Thomas said as he looked out of the door cautiously.       "Thomas, what's the matter?" Ivan walked to Thomas.       "Mr. Frank, I heard Sam and a few boys whisper something just now, It seems that they intend to make trouble at night."       "What's the trouble?" Ivan asked hurriedly. Unexpectedly, he did guess right.       "I don't know. I only overheard a little bit. I came over to inform you after Sam and his pals left. Mr. Frank, you must be careful at night. There used to be a class teacher greatly frightened by Sam during the night patrol. He even had a heart attack the next day."       "Really?" Ivan was surprised. Seeing Thomas's nervousness, he patted him again. "It's okay. I don't have heart disease. Thank you."       Thomas didn't move, but took a nunchaku from his schoolbag and handed it to Ivan.       Ivan took a look. "Thomas, why do you keep this thing in your bag?"       "I'm always bullied by Gino, so I want to use this for self-defense, but I never dared to bear it. Now I give it to you. Maybe you will use it tonight."       Ivan took the nunchakus and waved it, quite suitable for self-defense, "Thomas, boys should be brave. Since you are a student, don't put it in your schoolbags. It's easy to cause an accident. If Gino bullies you, just let me know at once. I will keep it for you for the moment."       Thomas smiled and nodded.       When Thomas was gone, Ivan looked at the nunchakus. He couldn't calm down for the whole day. He had even met the Black&White Group. Sam and his pals were merely a piece of cake. Ivan had to take some food first.       He walked out of the teaching building to the cafeteria. The whole campus was silent, and the afterglows streamed on the playground through the leaves. What a pretty oil painting!       Ivan couldn't help but think of a poem. It felt so good to watch such scenery. If Mr. Green were here, I would be very happy to chat with him about ancient poems.       Ivan went into the cafeteria in a good mood. There were only two teachers eating in the cafeteria. Ivan didn't know them well, so he had the meal alone by the window as he watched the scenery outside the window.       "Mr. Frank, you didn't go home?" Someone sat across from Ivan.       Ivan looked up at Demi and smiled with a nod. "I'm patrolling the campus tonight. Demi, are you feeling better?"       Demi only ordered a Hamburger. While gently eating, she said coolly: "Much better. Mr. Frank, do you have a girlfriend?"       Ivan was taken aback. "Yes. What's wrong?"       "You spend 10,000 for other girls. Wouldn't your girlfriend be angry if she knew the truth? Men spend money on beautiful girls only because they want to seduce them. Haven't you heard this sentence before?" Demi lowered her voice, moved forward, and stared at Ivan with blurred eyes.       A scent of light perfume floated into Ivan's nose. Ivan subconsciously leaned backward.       Demi giggled unexpectedly. Her clear laughter made two teachers look at them with curiosity.       Ivan knew that Demi did it deliberately. He smiled, sat down again and looked at Demi. "Demi, if I were not your headteacher, I would turn my back on you. I wouldn't have saved you from those two guys. I'm not a knight. I'm not obliged to act bravely. Never be that arrogant because you look beautiful. I've seen even more beautiful ones."       Demi froze instantly.   Ivan smiled in privacy. This was what he wanted. Beautiful girls couldn't always be praised. The more they were flattered, the prouder they would be. At the critical moment, they have to be treated coldly. Used to be a businessman, Ivan knew it well.
