Chapter 17 Ten Thousand Dollars

1883 Words
Demi was agitated by Ivan, the smile on her face freezing. She stared at Ivan. "Mr. Frank, you are so acid."       Ivan said coolly, "Demi, I'm telling the truth, and the truth is pleasing. Let me tell you one more thing. It is your right to do a legitimate business in your spare time and make some pocket money. However, if there is a problem with your business and it goes against the class discipline, don't blame me for being merciless. I won't pay the money for you."       "Mr. Frank, you want to break your promise. You told The Fatty that you would pay the money I didn't force you to do it at all." Demi was a little anxious.       "I will keep my promise, but I must know the whole story clearly. I pay 10,000 for you, and you tell me what happened in detail. Isn't it reasonable enough?" Ivan got up and walked to the waitress to ask for a piece of paper and a pen. He then wrote an IOU and shook it in front of Demi, "Demi, this is an IOU for the 10,000. With this IOU, if I refuse to fulfill my promise, you can complain to Principal Ailsa about this. Is it okay now?"       Demi was about to take it, but Ivan took it back. "Tell me, what happened between you and the Fatty?"       Demi stared at Ivan, and Ivan smiled.       Demi also smiled. "Mr. Frank, you are really a good man."       "Thank you. I used to be a businessman, and I just followed the process of doing business." Ivan said in calmness.       The other two teachers had already left. There were only Demi and Ivan in the cafeteria which seemingly turned much larger instantly.       Demi took a bite of Hamburger. "Okay, Mr. Frank, I can tell you the truth. I opened an online shop on the Internet selling accessories. Some of them are for my own use, while others for sale. The fatty and I were introduced to each other by one of my net friends. According to fatty, he can help me buy cheap accessories. I bought some from him twice, and the quality was no bad. Therefore, he managed to win my trust. Not long ago, he said that he had a batch of the latest Korean products that could be sold to me at a low price. I looked at the samples and was very satisfied. Originally, I just wanted to buy some, but he said this batch of goods was very popular. If you wanted to buy more later on, they would be sold out. I had to spend at least 10,000. It was okay to pay for the bill after getting the goods. I agreed out of impulse. Yet, when the goods were delivered to me, I found out that I was cheated. They were not Korean accessories at all, but rubbish. I insisted on returning the products, but he refused to admit it, even threatening me to pay for the bill. This morning, he called and asked me to meet him again, claiming that he was willing to take the products back. He was very kind over the phone, so I was cheated."       Demi paused. Badly flushing, she looked very excited.       Ivan hurriedly pushed the food to her. "Take some and speak slowly."       Demi collected herself. "He asked me to date him. If I slept with him, I wouldn't have to pay him back. Considering his ugly face, I would rather die than date him. I pretended to agree and ran out, but was overtaken by them. Then you showed up."       Ivan nodded, "Demi, I heard that your parents are also businessmen. Haven't they told you what you should pay attention to when doing business?"       As soon as he mentioned her parents, Demi's face darkened. "Don't mention them. They're not qualified enough to be my parents."       Ivan hurriedly changed the subject. "Where is the shipment now?"       "Taken back by the fatty." Demi glanced at Ivan.       Ivan gasped. Demi seemed fierce, but actually quite careless. This beauty was so foolish. Without the goods, they had lost the most important evidence The receipt was in the fatty's hands. Even accusing him of fraud, they couldn't win the case.       "Demi, you really have to give him ten thousand," Ivan couldn't help saying.       "Why? I'm cheated. I can't admit defeat. I must get the receipt back." Demi kept a straight face.       "What's your plan?" Ivan asked hurriedly.       "Just leave it to me. Mr. Frank, although I am a little acid this afternoon, I still thank you sincerely. You don't need to pay the money for me. Take the IOU back. I can solve this problem."      There was a fierceness in her eyes.       Ivan was panicked. "Demi, it's natural to lose money to a businessman. Since you have told me everything, I will not break my promise. I will pay the ten thousand for you. Stay away from the fatty. Behave yourself in the future, okay?"       Ivan gave the IOU to Demi.       Demi picked up the IOU, looked at it and smiled at Ivan.       Thinking she had agreed, Ivan smiled.       Yet, Demi gently tore the IOU in half, crumpled it and threw it into the trash can aside.       "Demi, what are you doing?" Out of anxiety, Ivan wanted to stop Demi. Yet, this was the school cafeteria, and the waitress was watching them on the other side. It was inappropriate to be that close to a girl. Ivan immediately withdrew his hand.       Demi smiled softly. "Mr. Frank, thank you. I am really not a good student. I don't want to go to university, so I tried to do business. When I graduate, I will be a businesswoman. But I'm not a shameless girl. You are not my boyfriend. Why should I take your money?"       "But I'm your teacher. I can lend you ten thousand, and you must pay me back one day." Ivan said hurriedly.       "Mr. Frank, I appreciate your kindness. I won't borrow money from a teacher." Demi stood up suddenly. "You should spend your money for your girlfriend."       "I..." Ivan froze.       Demi whispered with a smile, "Mr. Frank, it's not easy to be the class teacher of Class 3. I heard that you are on night patrol today. Watch out."       "Why?" Ivan couldn't help asking when he was reminded about it again.       There was a weird smile on Demi's face. "I can't tell you. I have warned you about it, so we are even. I hope at this time tomorrow, you are still willing to be the class teacher of Class 3."       Demi picked up the Hamburger and walked away. Ivan sat alone in the dining hall. The sky outside was already dark. The setting sun had disappeared. Ivan collected himself, put away the knife and fork and walked out of the dining hall. When he approached the teaching building, Ivan looked back, seeing that the lights in the cafeteria were also off. Except for the dormitory area, there was not light on campus. The night was dark and quiet. The leaves were rustling to the wind on treetops.       Ivan couldn't help feeling a bit chilly. He immediately wrapped himself with his clothes and walked towards the door. Just as he stepped up, someone shouted behind him, "Mr. Frank."       Ivan turned. It was Eric.       Eric walked over with an electric baton. "Mr. Frank, do you patrol the campus at night?"       Ivan nodded. "You're in night shift?"       Eric grinned. "I'm in day shift. My colleague has something to do at night, so I will do it for him. Since it's windy, in case there would be an accident, I came out to have a look."       Ivan hummed and pointed to the electric baton in Eric's hand. "You still need to take this when you came out?"       Eric widened his eyes and pointed to the construction site opposite of the school. "Mr. Frank, you just came here and don't know the situation. This is a new district in Cincinati City. There are almost no people at night. The workers there do not abide by the law and behave themselves. Perhaps, they would get over the wall to steal something. If I didn't take it, I might get hurt."       "Really?" Ivan looked at the construction site, too. It was dark with some scattering gleaming.       "Mr. Frank, there is one more thing. Do you know?"       "What is it?"       Ivan saw the weird expression on Eric's chubby face. He took out a cigarette and handed it to Eric.       Eric took the cigarette, spit out a big smoke ring. He looked around in hesitation, as if wondering whether he should tell Ivan or not.       Ivan was a little annoyed. "Eric, you must keep the secret, right? Then forget it, I'll go back."       "Wait." Ivan was about to turn around, but Eric grabbed Ivan. "Mr. Frank, you are a good man, I will tell you, but you can't tell others that I told you this."       "I promise to keep the secret. Say it." Ivan frowned.       Eric took another drag, poked his head forward and said in a low voice, "Our school used to be a cemetery. I heard that many people were buried here. Some people died unfairly. Sometimes, their ghosts will come out at night."       A gust of wind just blew. There suddenly came a gurgle from a corner of the campus.       "Who is it?" Eric raised his electric baton and called out in surprise.       There was no response.       Ivan also hurriedly turned following the voice. It was a corner on the campus with its back to the road. It was dark and could not be seen clearly. Neither he nor Eric had a flashlight.       "Show yourself," Eric called again.       "Don't shout. Let's go and take a look." Ivan took the lead and Eric followed behind him. They slowly approached the place where the sound was made in the street lights.       When they almost got there, the sounded appeared again. Behind him, Eric's breath became ragged.       Ivan glanced back at him. Eric coughed slightly, "Mr. Frank, does the campus haunted?"       Ever since Ivan met Judge Jerome, he knew that there was a nether world, so he couldn't help but feel a little nervous. He picked up a stone from the ground and threw it towards the corner. Suddenly, a bird dashed into the air.       The gurgle disappeared.       Ivan walked to the corner quickly and looked down. There was a hardwood stake on the ground. It turned out that the bird was pecking the stake just now.       Ivan smiled and pointed to the stake. "Eric, is this the ghost you're talking about?"       Eric took a look and kicked the stake in annoyance. "Damn it. It scared me to death. But Mr. Frank, what I said just now is true. Believe it or not."       "Then you have seen it?"       Eric shook his head. "My Yang energy is so strong that ghosts don't dare to approach me. But some people have seen it. In the past, a class teacher in Class 3 met a ghost during the night patrol and resigned the next day. Mr. Frank, you're also the class teacher of Class 3. Be careful. Maybe the ghost is looking for you."   Ivan looked at Eric whose face was serious enough.
