Cole’s P.O.V
By the time I got home, I was feeling awful with how I left things with Ruby but her kissing me? I was wondering why she would do that. I was nowhere near her type, and she has not paid any attention to me until today.
“Hey, sweetie you, OK?” My mum said as I walked in to let her know I was home.
“It has just been a strange day. I am going to head to bed. Goodnight, love you.” I said, smiling at her.
“OK. Goodnight sweetie.” She smiled.
I headed up to my room, getting ready for bed. I grabbed my phone, deciding to call Ruby, apologize for the way I left things. I was not sure if she would answer or not, getting a surprise when she answered after only two rings.
“Hi.” She said softly.
“Hey. I wanted to call to say I am sorry for the way I acted, that was very rude of me.” I said.
“No it is OK Cole, I shouldn’t have done that.” She said.
I knew she never meant it, but who can blame her? Girls like her don’t go for guys like me, EVER! All those stories you hear about the geek getting the beauty? It is nonsense that does not happen in real life, especially to someone like me. I have always watched her from afar, she never noticed though. I had been crushing on her since I can remember, it has always been her, this school is full of beautiful girls but no one else stole my attention like her, not like any of them would notice me, but it has always been Ruby even though she can be a b***h and gets around a little.
“Why did you do it? Was it some sort of bet or joke?” I asked.
I hear her sigh on the other side of the phone. Will I take that as a yes?
“It is OK, Ruby. I know it wouldn’t have been any more than that.” I said.
“Cole it was not that, I got caught up in the moment, but I shouldn’t have done it, you never wanted me too.” She said.
I had a feeling she knew that was my first kiss, the kiss itself probably showed that. I hope it was not too terrible.
“I stole your first kiss, didn’t I?” She said.
“That obvious?” I laughed nervously.
“Sort of, you seemed nervous and not too sure about what you were doing.” Ruby giggled.
“It was terrible, wasn’t it?” I sighed.
“Cole no one’s first kiss is perfect, mine was terrible, but that can be easily solved, practice makes perfect as they say,” Ruby said.
I guess she had a point, but who is going kiss me? Her kissing me that first time was a fluke that will not happen to me again. I may as well be invisible at that school, and I don’t think anything will change when I go off to University either.
“Yeah like anyone wants to kiss me, thank you though,” I said trying to sound like I was OK with spending my life alone and never falling in love, I will learn to deal with it.
“You don’t know that, Cole. I am a believer that there is someone out there for everyone. I know that probably sounds ridiculous coming from someone like me, I mean it though.” Ruby said.
Ruby and I chatted on the phone for an hour. I don’t even know what we spoke about, well she done most of the talking, I am not much of a talker. Ruby seemed different when she was talking to me on the phone, not the way she is at school or with her friends.
“I will see you at school, Cole. Sleep well, goodnight.” Ruby said.
“Goodnight Ruby, sweet dreams,” I said the both of us hanging up at the same.
It has been a strange day/night for me; hopefully, tomorrow would be back to normal, probably be best for everyone that way. I don’t want her to get any hassle because she is seen with me, then again, Ruby is not the type that takes crap from anyone. I decided to get some sleep, usually sleeping at this time.

I had arrived at school, heading to my locker. The usual remarks getting thrown at me. I kept my head down, trying to ignore them all but that was hard to do when the three members of the football team appeared in front of me, three of the biggest A-Holes in this place. The ones that gave me more hassle than anyone. I knew what was coming; they would grab my bag, tip everything out, call me the usual names and then try to trip me up when I tried to getaway.
“The three of you have got two f*****g seconds to get away from him, or I will ruin you all.” I heard a voice from behind me, Ruby soon stepping next to me.
The quarterback went to open his mouth to say something, but Ruby never gave him a chance, she stepped in front of him.
“Don’t even think about it, Gabe. I see you or any of you f*****g i***t friends bother Cole again I will not hesitate to ruin every single one of you…you know I can. I know all your secrets, and you know I am always looking. You as much as say one wrong thing to him, I will make you regret. Now f**k off.” She hissed, standing her ground.
The three of them soon disappeared. I knew Ruby never took crap from anyone, but I never expected that the Jocks, the ones that run this school practically would also do as she tells them. Ruby turned to look at me.
“You OK Cole?” She asked sadly.
“Yes, I am used to it. Thank You, though.” I smiled.
“Anytime. They are nothing but a bunch of idiots anyway.” She said.
I let out a soft chuckle. I did appreciate her sticking up for me. I am terrible for sticking up for myself. I don’t know how to since I have become used to all the hassle over the years.
“Walk you to first-class?” Ruby suggested.
“OK. I need to stop by my locker first.” I said.
Ruby smiled, linking her arm through mine and we headed towards my locker. She rested against them until I got my things into my locker that I don’t need until later. I could feel people looking at us, wondering why for a second day, Ruby was spending her time with someone like me, but it never seemed to bother her.
“Ready,” I said
“OK come on then, can’t have you being late for class.” She giggled.
Ruby and I arranged for another tutoring lesson, this time she was coming to my house. Ruby and I had the first three classes together anyway. I went to take my usual seat, but Ruby grabbed me, leading me up back to sit with her and her friends again.
“Hey, Cole.” They said in sync smiling at me.
“Hi,” I said my nerves coming back.
Ruby sat down, pulling me down on the seat next to her. I guess I am sitting here then. I think today was going to be another strange day.
