Chapter 13

Nyx slowly walks as he witnesses the two happily greeting each other. Magnus was surprised by the sudden visit of his best friend without notice and suddenly forgot Nyx in a blink of an eye.

Magnus quickly distances himself when he feels Nyx's presence from the living room and makes a fake cough. He can see Nyx's eyes piercing through his chest ready to burn the hell.

"Nyx..ahaha..ahm... Nyx, meet my best friend, Rein. this is Nyx." Magnus introduced them to each other while brushing the back of his neck, feeling tense and uncomfortable the way Nyx gazed at him secretly.

Nyx is expecting and excited to know how Magnus will introduce him to what he is in Magnus's life but to his dismay, he just introduced his name.

Nyx was hit by the fact and reality, they don't have a label and he doesn't even know what they are. Nyx's heart clenched in pain. Nyx quickly composed himself and responded politely.

"Nice to meet you, sir, I am Mr. Mateo's helper. What would you like to have so I can prepare it for you..." Nyx bowed with clasp hands.

"Thank you, dear. Can I have freshly squeezed apple juice please and make for Magnus his favorite orange juice." Rein ordered as soon as Nyx introduced that he is Magnus's helper.

Magnus trembles and gets confused hearing Rein's order to his secret bunny boss.

Fuck! I am doomed again and again. What did I do in my past life? Nyx..please, spare me..oh god.

Magnus is in between two rocks now. Does he need to push away and tell him to come back some other day or how he will entertain the man. Nyx's eyes are burning yet he is smiling.

Nyx turns his back as he witnesses how Magnus trembles and panics when he gives him a death glare secretly.

He introduced himself as a helper intentionally because he wants to know how this clingy Rein will react. Obviously, Rein quickly draws his alas as soon as he learns that Nyx is Magnus's helper.

Slut! Nyx bows his head again and excuses himself to prepare the slut's order.

As he prepares the juice, Nyx is thinking hard. Why does he find Magnus's best friend intimidating? Why does he feel his best friend is not showing his true self? Nyx suspects that Rein is acting up. Nyx suddenly feels intrigued to find out what is his purpose and real intention.

Nyx understands and he witnessed earlier, Magnus is innocent yet he can't help himself to feel jealous.

Nyx places the two glasses of juice in the tray. How dare he emphasises Magnus's favorite. Does he think I am stupid not to notice it for almost a year squeezing oranges every day? And the fact that Magnus never wastes and refuses, and never missed a single day without orange juice.

Nyx rolled his eyes from irritation. He walks carefully and brings the tray of juice to the living room where the two happily play on their mobile.

Nyx almost stops walking when he sees the two are so close to each other. Magnus is trying to distance himself while Rein keeps getting close.

As he placed the tray on the center table, Nyx wanted to throw the juice to Rein's face. He saw him intentionally place his arm on Magnus's shoulder while sitting on the couch.

Magnus is just playing dumb but deep inside, he wanted Rein to push out the door.

Magnus puts down his mobile quickly and reaches the juice so that he has the reason to distance himself from his best friend.

"Thank you, Nyx..." Magnus looks at his secret bunny boss. Nyx smiles and bows his head.

Shit, how many times does he need to bow his head? I am doomed.

Magnus knows Nyx is just showing respect and it's his natural attitude.

Nyx was about to turn his back when Rein spoke.

"Nyx, dear..can you bring water for me please."

"Sure sir, coming."

Magnus wanted to slap Rein for making his secret bunny boss tired.

Nyx approached with a glass of water by his hand. The bottom of the glass didn't touch the table yet when Rein speaks again.

"I'm sorry dear, I forgot to tell you I need two glasses of water." Rein shyly said apologetically.

Magnus's eyes are wide in horror.

"Sure sir, no problem.." Nyx said with a smile.

Nyx sees it crystal clear. Rein is doing it intentionally.

Nyx carries another glass of water and he is about to place it on the table but Rein extends his hand to reach it.

"Give it to my dear." Nyx gave it to him. Nyx thought he would take it from his hand but instead, he held Nyx's hand and poured the water to himself, and screamed.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry.." Nyx quickly said though he knows he didn't make it

Magnus didn't notice the incident because he is busy playing with his phone and avoiding Nyx's gaze.

"Bro...Magnus, I am drenched. Let me change my clothes. Bring me to your room. I want to choose.." Magnus just nods and stands slowly, still in shock.

Nyx quickly runs to the kitchen and picks the rug and mops to dry the spilled water.

When he gets back to the living room, the two are not there anymore. Nyx pouted. How dare he let him enter his room, our room.

Nyx was hurt. He never saw this coming. How come Magnus didn't notice this side of his best friend. Or does his best friend likes Magnus? Nyx covers his mouth when he realizes why Rein is exerting effort to irritate him and making trouble.

Nyx runs to the kitchen placing the rug and mop back to its place and hides in his room. He is holding his chest from so much jealousy. Why is Magnus not doing something to stop Rein? Or Magnus is innocent of his best friend's actions?

After five minutes, Nyx goes out of the servant's quarter and makes himself busy preparing the dinner.

He glanced secretly in the living room and saw the two chatting on the couch, smiling at each other. Nyx rolled his eyes in disbelief.

The two continue to play VR games until Nyx finishes preparing the dinner.

Nyx sets the table and when done, he notifies the two and they stop playing.

Rein excitedly sits and quickly picks the chopsticks and tastes the dishes one by one.

"Dear, your cooking skill is good. I like the food but it's quite salty. It is not my liking. Can you cook scrambled eggs for me? No salt please." Magnus shook his head and didn't utter a single word.

Nyx wanted to protest but he patiently obeys and cooks the scrambled egg.

Nyx is wondering. Why in front of him, Magnus can't speak but if it's his best friend, he can laugh out loud and be so talkative. He doesn't understand.

"Nyx, join us," Magnus said.

"No need sir, I am not hungry." Nyx left the dining room and proceeded to his room.

He picks his phone and sends a message to Magnus.

Sir, call me when you are done. Thank you.

Magnus replied secretly.

Nyx, please forgive me. I'm sorry.

Magnus feels how much tormented Nyx is. He doesn't know exactly what Rein is doing but he can't stop him that easily. He doesn't want to repeat what happened five years ago.

He is decided, he will explain everything to Nyx.

Magnus gathers all his guts and talks to Rein.

"Bro, it's getting late and I am tired already. Let's continue the game some other time ok when I have free time."

"Sure sure.." Rein said and quickly bid farewell when he checked the time.

As soon as Rein's car leaves, Magnus almost flies to the servant's quarter and finds Nyx busy talking to his friend. Nyx is smiling and laughing while talking to the phone.

"Ranz, I can't believe Banjo did that, hahaha..in front of the crowd?" Nyx giggles.

Magnus made a fake cough to call Nyx's attention but Nyx ignored him.

Magnus is just standing at the door until Nyx bids farewell and cuts the call.

Nyx put down his phone and walked out of the room.

"Just because I have a visitor you are busy flirting now?"

"Pardon me? Say it again." Nyx said.

"Nyx, you know I am innocent but why do you have to call your friend?"

"Wow, I don't have the right to talk to my friend? Excuse me, sir, I am sorry. I forgot my place. Yeah, helpers should not be slacking off." Nyx answered sarcastically and walked to the dining table and collected the dirty plates and bowls.

"Nyx, you know that is not what I mean."

"But that's the fact and reality. I am just your helper. So please sir, will you excuse me. I want to continue and finish my chores."

"Nyx."

"Magnus."

Nyx is patiently controlling his anger. He doesn't want to bring any topic because he was so upset and stressed from the happenings today. He just wants to ease the pain and talk to Ranz and Banjo. It was a group call. Talking to Banjo and Ranz is entertaining, he thought.

"Nyx please, don't be like this." Magnus's voice calms down as he feels Nyx is starting to raise his voice.

"Magnus, what am I to you?" Nyx suddenly asked.

Magnus becomes silent as he understands Nyx is asking why he didn't do any actions while Rein keeps playing on him and insulting him, especially his cooking. He was hurt, really hurt.

Nyx can slide the rest of the stupid accident made by his best friend but tell him his food is salty and disregard his prepared food, that was too much. Magnus knows how Nyx cooks and as a visitor, does he need to comment on his cooking skill? Why didn't Magnus utter even a single word? He was hoping to defend him at least. Nyx knew it wasn't that big a deal, he just wants to know why Magnus is like a cub in front of his best friend.

Magnus remains silent. He doesn't know where he will start explaining.

"Nyx, Rein is jealous of you..."

"Huh? Why?" Nyx suddenly stops what he is doing and looks at Magnus intently.

Magnus heaves a sigh and starts to speak.

"Nyx, back then, Rein and I were close and I am happy to have him as my best friend. I have no idea that he is in love with me. When he confessed his true feelings, I avoided him. I have no feelings with him and I see him as my brother." Magnus's eyes become gloomy and sit on the chair.

Nyx observes Magnus and pulls a chair to sit beside him. Magnus continues to speak.

"When I didn't reciprocate his love and avoided him, he committed suicide by slashing his pulse. Not only one, but he also cut his two wrists with a shaving blade. I was frightened that I was the reason why he did such a horrible act, but still, I didn't reciprocate his love. Believe me, Nyx, he is like a real brother to me. His family brought him to Korea until we lost communication. I felt pity for him until I learned that he got a Korean boyfriend and they got married. I was happy for him and thankful that he moved on already. But last week, he arrived and told me that his husband divorced him and wanted to forget him, that's why he is back."

Nyx cannot form a word from what he learned about Magnus's best friend. Despite feeling jealous and angry earlier, Nyx can't help but comfort Magnus and bring him to his chest.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know," Nyx said and rubbed Magnus's back.

Nyx clearly understands now why Magnus is so helpless and can't do anything. He clearly understands now that Magnus intentionally did not introduce him formally to avoid circumstances.

"Nyx, I only love you. I never love anyone. Please understand if things like this occur. I didn't mean to put you in a hard situation." Magnus said remorsefully.

Nyx felt relieved and he felt Magnus's honesty. He suddenly remembers Mrs. Mateo's wish earlier to take good care of his i***t son.
