Alison POV
I looked out the window at the road I was on. My brother Jake was driving while I lost my gaze in the large forest around us, the rain was crashing against the windshield and the music playing on the radio was awful.
"Turn that off" I muttered.
"Come on Alison, it's classical music, that’s relaxing" My brother answered
"I hate it" I complained.
"That's not true, you hate silence more, which is very different anyway".
"Whatever" I snorted
"I know you don't like it because of the memories it brings back, Alison. But you shouldn't cling to something that doesn't exist anymore."
"You're a psychologist now?”
"I'm your brother" He smiled and kissed my cheek.
"I know that… Sadly" I sighed
"Come on Alison, don't be upset please, it's just some music and that's it."
I could remember how those soft musical tunes, which were beautiful for many people, only awakened in me the worst of memories, anxiety and sadness...
I really hate that music.
"Can you take it off already?" I said annoyed
"No and I'd appreciate it if you'd put your seatbelt on" He muttered annoyed
"I don't want to, it chokes me and you know it."
"Do it now" He looked at me with a frown.
"No.”
"Come on Alison.”
"I said no, Jake.”
"Just put it on and...”
"That's enough" I complained at him
"I just want to protect you, Alison. I don't want to have an accident.”
"Well I don't want to travel in a car and here you have us, moving to an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people and unfamiliar food" I sighed and turned to look out the window
I had to say that my family life... Wasn't like anyone else's.
Magic and impossible things had always surrounded my destiny, I still remembered when I was a little girl at human school, how my classmates saw witches and werewolves as fantastic creatures, when in my reality they are real beings...
My life has been full of tragedies, and that started with my parents, the great human hunters of magical beasts. And I introduce myself, I am Alison, their daughter and their greatest disappointment.
"I know you don't like the idea of moving, but maybe it could be a good thing, you can find things you never saw before" Jake suggested with a smile.
"Like what?" I snorted and looked at him: "Witches and warlocks?”
"They say you can always see wild wolves in this place" He looked at me smiling.
"It's not important" I denied.
My brother could not understand me. Jake is a great hunter, from a very young age he was always the pride of my parents, who trained him and loved him much more than they could ever love me. My brother doesn't understand how hard my life is to be the outcast of my family, and he doesn't understand how hard it is to move from the city to this place to please my parents.
However, maybe he was right about one tiny thing.... There were wolves in this place.
I usually didn't go near the magical creatures in the forest, I didn't really care if they were dangerous things or not, I really don't like to be around those beasts. But wolves are different, for some reason I have always felt a certain affinity towards them, I like to see them transformed and draw them among the trees.
Another thing that was a big disappointment for my family, since my parents are well known for being some of the best werewolf hunters. While their daughter spies on them in the trees to draw them...
"What can I do to change your mood, child?” My brother asks me.
"Maybe I want some ice cream but since you don't listen to me lately, you don't know" I complain again.
"Yes, I do listen to you, Alison.”
"Well you don't seem to" I snorted
"You know it was a necessary change.”
"And what fault do I have that you have business here?”
"We have" He looked at me seriously: "You know I couldn't take a step without you, mom and dad would never forgive me. And you need to train, you know out life is to be hunters, you need to train to be the best female hunter in our family.”
"Well, I'd like to change my life" I looked at him: "Don't you get tired of this?”
"I know this has its sacrifices, Alison. But we both knew that sooner or later it would have to happen.”
"Well, it happened a lot sooner than I thought.”
"You know it wasn't my fault" He murmured.
"I know" I whispered: "Sorry.”
"Never mind, girl" he sighed "I promise you this will be the last trip, what do you say? Do you want to live here forever?”
"Not even joking..." I whispered and looked down.
"If everything goes well, I promise I'll buy a house for the two of us, one where we can live quietly for a long time".
"For how long?”
"For twenty years at least" He smiled
"Is that true?”
"I give you my word.”
Good. When Jake gave me his word it was because he was sure he would make it, he always made it even if it was impossible, even if it was the hardest thing of all this.
"Thank you" I smiled and kissed his cheek.
"Then it's done" He smiled and looked at me: "Whatever you want my little sister."
I was going to respond, but a loud bang made my head hit the window, and I let out a loud scream as the car started to go round and round.
"Alison!”
I heard my brother's voice, but as I tried to turn to see him, my door opened and I jumped out of the car.
I felt my body hit the ground, and some bones in my arm hit the earth, causing me severe pain.
One by one my bones crunched with each blow I received, as I spun around in the cold forest dirt. Until I stopped and was unconscious for a few seconds in pain and confusion.
By the time I regained consciousness, I managed to see my brother's car at the edge of the cliff.
"Jake..." I whispered
I tried to get up but it was impossible with all the pain I had in my body, but I still didn't take my eyes off my brother's car until I could finally see him, and a big smile formed on my face.
"Jake...”
He tried to mumble something, but a sound caught his attention and his gaze quickly turned in an alarming direction. I wanted to know what it was, but the sound of earthmoving and metal creaking gave me my answer.
The car was slipping.
My brother smiled at me for a second, but my smile was wiped away as soon as the car lurched and eventually... Fell out the mountain.
"Jake!" I shouted in desperation: "Jake!”
