Alpha Ace's POV
"Mama, I am quite busy at-"
"Ace." My mother's choky sobs interrupted my speech.
I raised my head up to see tears trickling down her face. She was a bit paler than usual, I noted, and her lips were slightly parted in apprehension.
Rising up to my feet, I covered the distance between us in a few seconds. A frown deepened on my face as I wrapped my large arms around her small frame.
"Mama, what is it?" My heart hammered hard in my chest. I would cause pain to the one who dared to make her cry.
I wondered what could have happened to make her sober. Something terrible must have happened.
"What happened, mama?" I urged her to speak when she remained silent and her body wracked with sobs
"Your-"
The door to my office swung open almost immediately revealing my best friend Leonardo and behind him was a bodyguard. My brows drew together in a line and my lips pressed into a thin white line in an effort to suppress the frown that had formed on my face. They both looked troubled.
"Can someone tell me what exactly is going on!?" I questioned through gritted teeth.
There was little my patience could handle, especially since I could feel that something bad had happened and I didn't like being in the dark.
A sense of foreboding overcame me
as I stared into Eduardo's eyes. It was an odd feeling, one that felt so familiar it ached almost like nostalgia
"Have you seen the news?" Leonardo asked me in a low but troubled voice.
"What news?" I growled.
I turned my attention to the television when I didn't receive a reply. Panic coiled in my spine and my blood roiled as I read through the news. My heart was pounding in my ears and I could feel a bead of sweat on my temple.
There was a survivor, every other person died instantly in the crash.
The last part undid something inside of me. The thought that my brother had died leaving me alone to handle his absence.
I shut my eyes, bottling the pain searing through him. It was too much to bear. My knuckles turned white as I reached for my snifter glass. I flung it across the room in anger.
It shattered against a bookshelf, spilling its contents onto the floor. I let my head fall forward and my shoulders slumped in defeat. Leaning back on the arm of my chair and closing my eyes again, I let silence swallow up everything but the sound of my labored breathing.
The only thing I could hear was the thumping beat of my heart. And the only thing I could remember was my brother's smile and it slowly dawned on me that it would be the last memory I had of him.
It drowned out everything else and seemed to echo my own thoughts as if they were a thousand miles away. The only sound that had managed to penetrate the ringing in my ears. My eyes flicked open and i spoke the command through gritted teeth.
"I want every f*****g information we can get on the driver. Use every contact we have in Los Angeles and if anyone asks you tell me it is Alpha Ace who needs him!" I said through gritted teeth to Eduardo
I was about to use my power as the Alpha King of Miami to search for the man who had dared tamper with my life like the pieces on a chessboard.
And when I finally found him, hell would be too sweet a punishment for him
"Prepare the plane, we are going to Miami." Ace instructed the guard who stood by my side.
