Chapter 3 Back with the Kid

1346 Words
Four years later... A police aircraft was about to land in Los Angeles. Inside the cabin, there were only two adults and one child. The woman, her curly chestnut hair pulled back, wore a flowing green dress. Her amber eyes glistened in the sunlight. Eileen was still stunning, yet motherhood had softened her expression, lending her a mature, feminine allure. Beside her sat a muscular man in a federal police uniform with light stubble and ocean-blue eyes. His physique was even more striking than Captain America. His name was Brian Evan, thirty-five years old, the Deputy Director of the Federal Police. Between them sat a charming three-year-old boy. "Brian!" the little boy asked. "Who do you like more, me or my mommy?" "Ah, that's a tough one," Brian responded with a gentle smile. "Be honest," the little one insisted, sitting on Brian's lap and seriously fiddling with the badge on his police uniform. "Honey, you should call him Mr. Evan. He's over a decade older than Mommy. You need to show some respect." Eileen corrected her son, though he never seemed to remember. Ryan playfully stuck out his tongue at his mother, his rosy cheeks breaking into a sweet smile. "'Mr. Evan' is just temporary. Brian is going to be my daddy!" "That's right." Brian nodded and turned to Eileen. "Eileen, are you saying I'm old?" Eileen's face flushed, and she shook her head awkwardly. "How could I?" She couldn't even thank him enough. Four years ago, it was Brian who saved Eileen from a dead end when she was chased by Vivian's bodyguards. The first time he saw Eileen, Brian was captivated by her. Her frail figure stood firm against seven or eight burly men without flinching. It was the first time he had ever seen such a brave girl. Later, he learned that Eileen had just found out she was a mother and didn't know who the father of her child was. This made Brian even more sympathetic. Thus, he decided to fund Eileen's education abroad until she graduated from college. Although Eileen was a young single mother and mostly occupied with caring for her baby, she managed to earn a graduation scholarship and became an accomplished wedding planner. Before Brian knew it, his sympathy gradually turned into fondness, deep love... Eventually, he realized he would never love another woman in his life. "That's good to hear," Brian said as he ruffled her hair affectionately. Then, he looked down at the handsome little boy. "You know, Ryan, I like you more because you love me more than your mommy does. How about staying at my place once we land?" "Uhh, well... I can't really say." Ryan scratched his head and glanced at his mom, eager to please. "My mom's the most beautiful woman in the world, and I listen to everything she says." Eileen gave Brian a grateful look. "Brian, thank you for being so kind to my son and me. But you're still single and a public servant. It wouldn't look good if we stayed at your place." "It's fine. We could just get married." "This..." Eileen smiled wryly. Brian's family did not approve of their relationship. "Brian, I've already asked my friend Miranda to pick me up. Ryan and I will stay with her." Miranda had been Eileen's best friend since elementary school, and they had always been close. "Alright." After a few seconds of thought, Brian nodded in agreement. "Once I deal with my family, we'll register our marriage, and then you can officially move in. Eileen, I..." He wanted to say he loved her. But for a tough guy who was more used to gunfights and defusing bombs, those three words always got stuck in his throat. He felt like punching himself for it. Eileen knew his feelings and smiled. She also liked this hero who had saved her. If not for his family's objections, they might already have been married. Such a pity... The plane touched down at the airport. Brian held Ryan with one arm and walked side by side with Eileen out of the airplane. At a nearby private airstrip, a luxurious private jet had just landed. Curious, Eileen shot a few glances toward the aircraft. Brain explained, "That one belongs to the Kennys. It has their family emblem on it. I heard that the current heir is a tough figure, a real powerhouse. Smiling, Eileen listened to his explanation while walking with him toward the exit. Meanwhile, a tall, handsome figure stepped down from the private jet—it was Chris Kenny. After four years, he had become even more mature and charismatic. "Look at that family," Owen observed Eileen and the others ahead with admiration, "They look so happy." Chris had just come back from Europe after concluding a major deal. He glanced nonchalantly at the family. However, hearing Owen's words, his good mood instantly soured. It had been four years. His marriage with Katherine couldn't be delayed anymore. But he knew that happiness would be out of reach if he married her. When the trio exited the airport, Miranda had been waiting. Her face lit up at the sight of the family of three stepping out. Waving excitedly, she shouted, "Eileen, Brian, Ryan!" "Miranda!" "Handsome man, beautiful woman, and an adorable baby! Why aren't you two married yet?" "Alright, don't you say another word anymore," Eileen joked back, handing her friend a gift box. "Perfume, your favorite limited edition." Miranda happily accepted it, picked up Ryan for a kiss, and pushed Eileen towards Brian. "I've got the baby, you take Brian. That's settled." Brian wrapped his arms around Eileen and laughed, "Okay." "Stop it!" Eileen immediately stepped out of Brian's embrace, not wanting to bring any negative comments to him. With a sigh, Brian helped the mother and son into Miranda's car. "I'll pick you up early tomorrow for your first day at work," he told Eileen. "See you tomorrow. Honey, say goodbye to Mr. Evan." Eileen shook her son's chubby little hand. "Bye-bye, future daddy!" "Good boy." Brian was pleased and kissed the baby's face. As he looked up, he seized the moment to also peck Eileen on the cheek. Eileen's face flushed instantly, and she hastily nudged Miranda. "Let's go, start the car." As the car faded into the distance, Brian clenched his fist, resolute in his determination to overcome any obstacle to marry Eileen. Eileen's return to Los Angeles was prompted by the largest event planning company in the city, Kathris Events, which had noticed her perfectly executed previous case and extended her an offer. Kathris Events was renowned for organizing parties and weddings for celebrities and socialites. On her first day at Kathris Events, Eileen got up early. Downstairs, Brian leaned against the car door in his jacket, smoking as he waited for her. "Good morning, Brian." "Morning, babe." Brian flicked his cigarette away and looked at Eileen with deep affection, a warmth spreading through his chest. Eileen was dressed in a simple yet elegant uniform that highlighted her curvaceous figure and her bright, amber eyes that never failed to captivate. They had first met when she was just nineteen, and though she had been a mother for many years now, she remained stunningly attractive, which he deeply loved. He didn't care who Ryan's biological father was. That boy was his son all along. When Eileen arrived at Kathris Events, she had barely stepped out of her car when a sleek Lamborghini pulled up beside her. The manager, accompanied by a few employees, came out to greet her warmly, "Ms. Jones, we've been expecting you!" Eileen thought they were speaking to her and was about to respond when she saw the manager bend down to open the Lamborghini's door, assisting someone out of the car. "Let's go inside," Bryan said, unfazed, and led Eileen into the building. Yet, Eileen couldn't help but be curious about the person who shared her surname. She turned just in time to catch a glimpse of a smooth, delicate leg stepping out of the car.
