Chapter Six
Damien POV
I made a mistake, Anastasia Reed wasn’t the woman I thought she was. She wasn’t like the regular women I had encountered in the past and as she walked up the stage to give her speech I paid attention to her.
The green dress she wore modelled her body and her hair was in the shinest shade. Not to mention how her siren eyes lit up while she stood behind the podium. The lights on her face highlighted her features, her cheekbones and her lips, they happened to keep anyone who looked at them locked in.
As she began her speech, the former aura of uncertainty had disappeared and with her head held up high, words flowed out followed by charisma and confidence. There was more to Anastasia than was let out in the media. She seemed to be a woman who could stand by herself but yet it surprised me that she was married to Daniel Reed, her husband whom I hadn’t seen at the event. He hadn’t come with her which made me question the state of their relationship. The first time I had seen Anastasia on the call she was interrupted by Daniel who seemed to have a problem with her for doing something.
From the way he spoke to her it was clear that he had no respect for her and never bothered hiding it, which makes me wonder, why did Anastasia kept up with him with all that her father was and her family were.
My phone buzzed in my pocket distracting me from Anastasia, with a frown I checked the name on the screen and walked up the stairs towards the gallery which was a bit quieter.
“I wasn’t expecting your call this soon. What is it?”
“We happened to find something- someone rather, and you’ll never guess who sent them.” I waited for him while pacing the empty hallway.
“It's a man from Solvia Gem, but he said it was someone from R and R corp who instructed him to come.” I was familiar with Solvia Gem and it didnt surprise me that they were putting their noses in places that didn’t concern them but then there was something else I was curious about. R and R Corp belonged to Anastasia Reed and her husband Daniel. It had to be a coincidence right? It had to be someone who wanted to sabotage them- there was no way Anastasia would send someone that far to spy on us.
“Boss, are you still there?” He asked and I stopped just a the corner which leads to the balcony, and while I wanted to turn back I heard the voice of a man, a voice I had heard just once and irritated me, Daniel Reed.
“You have to be patient, Anastasia isn’t so smart to point it out but we should thread with caution,” Daniel said and I remained hidden.
“Why can’t we just fake an accident or something, let’s just get rid of her and you can finally have all of the company in your name.” A frustrated feminine voice muttered. A mistress?
“Don’t say it out loud, someone could’ve heard you.” He hissed at her but she had said it.
“No one is up here, everyone is listening to her speech. I’m sure they’re drooling at her stupid voice and faking over how pretty she is because they want the same thing you have but are afraid to take. She is your wife. The woman sleeps on your bed and you get to f**k her like the w***e she is-”
“Stop it!” Daniel hissed but the woman didn’t stop.
“What? Now you want to defend her when I call her a w***e? You know that you don’t love her, if you did then you wouldn’t be here with me. I mean it's not like she feels the same way about you, if she did it wouldn’t be hard for her to sign up the entire ownership to you and sell her shares to you.”
Sell ownership? Daniel wanted Anastasia's shares in the company. Why? I mean they were a couple and the company originally belonged to the Chairman who was Anastasia's father before he died in an accident.
“Look, I’m just trying to help you out with your problem. We can get rid of Anastasia tonight, we can-”
“That's enough,” Daniel muttered and with that, I quietly walked away.
“Boss, you’ve been quiet. Is everything alright?” He said and my gaze searched for Anastasia but she was leaving the stage and numerous people were going to meet her.
Daniel Reed and his mistress were plotting something against her and I was the only one who could save her.
“Yes. Make sure you ask questions until he tells you everything and I mean everything.” I ended the call. My gaze followed Anastasia and she was all smiley as she spoke to an elderly couple. She was innocent and didn’t deserve whatever Daniel and his mistress were planning. If they were going to do anything to her it was best I warned her- but- Daniel was her husband and I was a total stranger or rather a prospective business partner. The chances that she would listen to me were zero to none. With a deep sigh, I walked down the stairs. There was only one way to make sure nothing happened to her, and that was to keep her in sight at all times.
“Damien, where have you been? We’ve been looking for you.” Marcus said with Alexia next to him. I stared at the both of them.
“Why?”
“What do you mean why-” Marcus' voice dimmed down as my gaze returned to where I had originally seen Anastasia and for the first time that night, I felt unsettled.
She wasn’t there.
