Chapter 16

Chapter 16 The day had finally arrived. Today was a big and much awaited event for Camila Cresto and of course Taylor who just couldn’t stay calm. Though owned by Camila, Taylor knew those were her designs which would come to life on the international runway. Taylor had insisted on sewing them herself since they were so close to her heart. Besides, she couldn’t trust leaving her hard work unattended in the jealous hands of her juniors and subordinates at Camila Cresto’s studio. “Have the outfits reached their destination?” Camila’s assistant enquired over the phone first thing in the morning. “They arrived last night, I stored them for our models well in advance,” Taylor replied without hesitating. “Oh, that’s….nice, our models will have plenty of time for trials then…” Camila’s assistant was impressed as she hadn’t expected Taylor to be so organised though this was her very first international fashion event. “I leave no stone unturned, tell Camila she can rest assured,” Taylor’s heart did a happy dance. “Hmm alright. Good luck on your first international fashion event. See you at 04:00 PM at the venue,” Camila’s assistant wished her good luck much to Taylor’s surprise. “Thank you…” Taylor smiled and drew in a deep breath. “I should definitely wear something special this evening!” she thought and turned around to find Zac glued to his phone. “Honey, what do you think I should wear this evening?” She asked him eagerly. “Honey?!” Taylor asked him again but he didn’t respond. “Zac??” She frowned while her continued to type something vigorously on his phone. “Zac, I'm speaking to you!” She lost her patiences and raised her voice. “What’s got you so invested in your phone?” she continued and snatched the phone from his hand. “TAYLOR! GIVE THAT BACK, RIGHT NOW,” Zac panicked and snatched it back from her hand. “Is that a new phone?” Taylor noticed it and made a face. “Are you throwing money on expensive junk again?” She frowned and crossed her hands. “I didn’t buy it, it’s a gift…” Zac replied and hastily slipped it in his pocket. “Really? Which “FRIEND”? All the ones I know were dumped by you before we hit rock bottom,” she rolled her eyes. “Wow! So you’ll just rub it on my face, like you had no role in it?” Zac complained. “Wait, what? You mean I was the one to distance you from our friends?” Taylor couldn’t believe what he just said. “See this is exactly why I don’t bother explaining s**t to you. All you do is get defensive and throw a fit,” He complained further and shook his head in irritation. “I’m throwing a fit??” Taylor got upset and stared at him. “Please don’t start over! Can’t a man get some peace in this house?” Zac yelled and walked away before shutting the door loudly. Taylor felt hurt and disappointed, she couldn’t digest he would conveniently blame her for the mess they were in, rather he was in. “It’s okay..he’s just having a hard time dealing with this situation. It was my fault,” she convinced herself like she always did. She couldn’t imagine a life without Zac, losing him would mean losing the only person she loved, trusted and could depend on. No matter how poorly he treated her, she would always tell herself that was his way of showing affection and that she was at fault. It was a defence mechanism to save their relationship. Beep! Beep! Taylor’s phone buzzed and snapped her out of her monologue. It was a text from Chase. Chase: “I’ll pick you up! Send me your location!” Taylor read it as she wiped her tears. Taylor: “I'm not home, i’ll take a ride directly to the venue,” She replied and saw him typing… Chase: “I don’t take no for an answer, where are you?” “Ugh! Why are men such shitheads!” she got irritated and began thinking how to respond. There was no way she was leading him to Zac’s den. Taylor: “I’m at the salon…pick me up in an hour,” Chase: “Niceee….Done!” Taylor sent him the location and hurriedly got dressed. She picked a piece she first created when she joined Camila Cresto. “Thank goodness she didn’t see this back then,” Taylor sighed in relief and put it on. Rushing to be right at the location given to Chase, She crossed the living room only to find Ben coming in with a grin on his face. “B-Ben?? Oh my gosh! Where did you disappear to?” She opened her arms to embrace him while Zac stared like a deer on headlights from the doorway. “How did you get in?” Zac tensed up. “Hey man, I was expecting a better welcome than that,” he remarked after hugging Taylor. “Why are you still stuck with this dork?” He whispered into her ears. Taylor just giggled. “You know better! “Dayum you lookin hot, where are you leaving in such a rush?” he asked her in amusement. “I’ll explain everything once i return, for now I have an international fashion event to attend,” she replied. “Wow, international fashion event!! Girl you’re flying!!” Ben swung his arm in the air. “I’m so glad you came, please stay back for dinner. We’ve got lots to catch up, don’t we Zac?” Taylor looked at Zac who was giving Ben death stares from across the room. “Ain’t no problem, i’ll make myself comfy with my old pal here,” Ben smirked and watched as Taylor waved good bye and rushed out the door. “Aah at least someone’s making use of their talent,” he sniggered and infuriated Zac. “What are you doing here?” Zac walked up to him with fists closed.
