A Trap In Oak Valley

1706 Words
Oak valley town was a week’s flight from the city of iron, it was not too close, but at the same time it was not too far. Even with over population, most if not all of the cities had what they needed to survive within their massive walls, so it was rare for a city to have a vested interest in any town located outside its gates. David had no idea how important Oak valley was to the city of iron, though he suspected it’s value was completely negligible if not non existent. Which meant every resident of Oak valley was completely on their own. With everything he had done to survive thus far, David did not think he had the right to call himself a hero, or go around performing too many good Samaritan deeds. What he could only do, was to watch out for himself, kill that damn lizard, and help whoever he could help. Even on earth the world was not built on roses and chocolate, and Pangea has now entered an era where things like love, kindness and a good heart will become a commodity so rare, it could only be labeled limited or special edition. “Are you sure it’s really necessary to do this? We could have just as easily gotten to the city of iron and asked for help from the military.” “Minerva, those people would be dead long before the military got there, and my quarry would have been long gone. I need to get revenge for my son.” Lilith was determined for sure to kill that lizard, which was why no words spoken by Minerva could deter from her path of vengeance. There’s just some things in this world that you can’t turn your back on and have to see through to the end. It was the only way to truly bring peace to her heart and get the closure she needed. Lilith inclined the cruiser as it shot out of the clouds, if the GPS, was to be believed Oak valley was directly below them. Which of course it was, considered they were looking at a valley that had a road cutting through it. It was a really big town, the town alone seemed to stretch for a distance of 3 kilometers while being equally if not a little more wide. David could identify schools, a mall, even a cinema. The town seemed well developed compared to Barigga, however part of it was on fire and being raided by a variety of evolved animals. And too make matters worse, the sky was littered with flying beasts and monsters of all kind. “We’re going to die here.” Minerva muttered in a toneless voice. Lilith however looked at her and said. “Don’t be such a pessimist Minerva, this looks like it’s going to be fun. Isn’t that right David.” “Err….…yeah, yeah sure. It’s going to be fun. Just to be safe, is it to late to leave and go for help.” The answer she gave was to use the cruiser’s own guns to announce their arrival. The sound of a machine gun spitting fire and hot lead resounded across the sky, David and Minerva buckled up as they watched flying monster upon flying monsters fall from the sky like rain. But there was more of them than Lilith could handle so she had to move around. Lilith move left sharply, narrowly dodging the claws of a giant eagle with crystal like horns. But that was not enough as a trio of giant bats with blood red eyes were heading straight ahead for the cruiser, Lilith squeezed the trigger of the cruiser's gun, and all three bats were riddled with bullets and fell down to the earth like a trio of meteors dragged by gravity. Lilith dived and went straight for the ground with the Eagle on their tail, the ground was coming up fast, and David was beginning to worry Lilith had every intention of killing them by crashing to the ground. Not to mention the ground was covered with a whole lot buildings currently occupied by monsters. “Pull up, pull up, pull up.” David’s screams echoed within the cockpit as he almost lost control of his bladder due to how close he was to death once again, and this time seemed a little bit more terrifying than the last. When the cruiser was just ten to five meters away from crashing to the ground, Lilith pulled up, many of the monsters on the ground were crushed from the inertia of the cruiser. As for the eagle chasing behind them, it was not as lucky as it could not pull up in time and ended up crashing into the ground with a loud boom. It rolled for about twenty meters raising a cloud of dust and taking out a slew of other monsters. When it finally came to a stop all that was left of the once fearsome monster was a broken heap of bones, feathers, and crystals. It was a rather gruesome sight, but David and his fellow compatriots were focused on something else. And that was because another giant eagle was after them, and this one seems to be bigger. To David however this did not make sense, if there were monsters this big in the air, how come this city was still standing, or how could there be any one left alive in this place. A light started blinking on the control panel of the cruiser, it looked like it was another message, but they only just noticed it when the machine gun clicked empty. David could not help but curse out loud. “What kind of f*****g cruiser is this, why would it be outfitted with an outdated weapons system. Why use bullets when you can use plasma or Mana” “That because it’s an outdated model. Do you think Evans will be equipped enough to have a current military cruiser, or even stupid enough to own it. They would have found him and made an example of him, this rust bucket is at least a hundred and fifty years old, now answer that message while I try to save our lives!” Of course when she put it that way it made David sound like a fool. It was not his fault he could not tell the difference between military vehicles, he was a weapons nut, and a mechanic, not an appraiser. He might love engines but he was not too fond of playing around with military stuff, his father and sister were as much as he could handle. “This Is Geraldine Fetal to unidentified aircraft, I repeat Geraldine Fetal to unidentified aircraft do you copy over.” David looked at Lilith with a rather confused look on his face as he pressed the button for respond. “Um……this is David Johnson Iye from unidentified aircraft, I…..ur……. Read you, I think.” Lilith slammed her palm over her face, taking her concentration and almost crashing them into what David would swear was flying donkey. “Lilith there was a flying don…..” “Don’t even say it!” “key.” “I said not to say it!” “But I didn’t.” “Yes you did.” “Would you two shut up, I’m trying to save your lives, and you’re fighting each other, what kind of people are on that cruiser.” David coughed with an embarrassed look on his face. His little spat with Lilith had been heard completely by this Geraldine fellow and who ever the hell was there with him. And that was because David had left the communications channel on. “You say you want to save our lives, you don’t seem to be a doing good job about it, considering there’s a giant EAGLE ON OUR TAIL!” “That’s not my fault, but yours for falling into a trap you idiot.” Lilith seems to have had enough of David bantering with whoever was on the other end of the line, not to mention they were still in danger and she needed to diffuse the situation quickly if they wanted to get out of this situation unscathed. “What do you mean trap.” “The town had already fallen almost four days ago. The distress signal is being sent by a man who is under the control of that creepy lizard. It is somehow controlling him and using him to lure humans into a trap.” “Well that’s quite serious, so I guess the only thing left to do would be to leave before things get really wrong.” “um……..miss and sir, no offense but I would really love it if you didn’t leave.” “Why not?” David asked completely surprised by the sudden change of pace in the conversation. “Because there’s still people trapped in the city, they’re all in the mayors office right at the center of town. They’re women, children and elderly in need of urgent care.” “We’ll see what we can do Geraldine give us a minute to shake of our pursuers.” Then David turned to Lilith and said to her In a speculative voice. “We’re not saving them are we?” “nope.” “oh………sucks to be them I suppose. Then what are we going to be doing?” “We’re going to retreat and rethink our method of approach, find the lizard kill it, and get to the city of iron.” David nodded his head in agreement, David felt a little remorse for the people who were trapped in the mayor’s office. But he couldn’t save anyone, and most definitely not in this monster storm they foolishly got trapped in. But as with everything In his life, nothing David had planned so far has ever gone off without a hitch, and this time fate seemed to be mocking him. The Eagle that was chasing them backed off, and the crystal horns on its head began to glow, and then a colorful light show ensued. “Screeeeeeech” The Eagle let out a wave of ultrasonic blasts that functioned like an electro magnetic pulse device; completely knocking the cruiser’s engine offline. Everything from the outdated control systems to the communications systems were completely fried out. It did not take long for their cruiser to take a dive from the sky as it lost control and fell to the earth. “Oh fuuuuuccckkkk”
