Flying a cruiser could be a rather soothing and mind clearing activity, or it could be extremely boring if all you had to look at were clouds in the sky. It has been a rather awkward three days in the cruiser, and Minerva had already taken notice of the strange atmosphere so she actively tried to avoid Lilith and David. So far she had been successful, but it was hardly effective considering they could still see each other, every other second of the day.
This was a military cruiser, not a civilian or private one, which meant there was nothing like a cubicle or a private room to be assigned to anybody. They all had to sleep on the seats in the bay area of the cruiser.
But since then, David and Lilith had not even said one smidge of a word to each other. The truth is that there wasn’t anything left to say between the two of them. David was being a fool, how could she love or care for him, after all…….he got her son killed. And it was all just wishful thinking if he thought she would just forget everything that happened and jump into his arms like some sort of princess.
And then again, he got the feeling that he was probably moving a little too fast. Technically they’ve only known each other for about two weeks, give or take a few days.
Besides this was a woman who has been an empress and have been married to someone leagues above David’s current status, it was quite stupid she would settle for less when she has had the best. Of course David did not really, or completely think she didn’t care because he was inadequate. He felt there was more to this story, but whatever it was Lilith was willing to let it come between them. But he was being delusional….there was no them, and he didn’t think there ever will be.
David shook his head and rubbed his hands allover his face, moaning loudly in the process. He felt so tired and stressed it was quite a miracle how he was still standing. David has not been able to get his nerves to calm down since their escape from the volcanic arena. He was in a state of constant alertness, it was not as if he couldn’t calm down, but that might have been forgotten too.
“Beep, beep, beep,”
A couple of displays lit up and drew David’s attention, it was a hailing notification, which meant someone was trying to communicate with their cruiser. David was not exactly sure what was going on, but the constant beeps had drawn the attention of Lilith and Minerva as they made their way to the cockpit.
Lilith messed with a few controls, but it was obvious she was not going to say anything to David. It was annoying, but David was definitely not going to be the one to initiate a conversation between the two of them. Thankfully Minerva had no such qualms as she identified what was happening.
“That’s an open channel, which means whoever is talking is not from the military or any known organization, however it seems to be a one way relay, so we can listen but can’t reply. I don’t think it’s a trap, but we can’t really be sure.”
David was quite surprised by Minerva’s capabilities with the cruisers communications panel, their lack of interaction might have been the cause, but who would sit around and chat with their own father’s murderer.
Lilith, pressed the receive button, and moved closer so she could listen to the message.
“Mayday, mayday, this Callus Vale, I repeat this is Callus Vale. I’m a mechanic in the town Oak valley, and we’re in big trouble..…..please if there’s anyone there, we need help. Our town is being besieged by a horde of evolved animals and monsters, and I know this sounds crazy, but they’re being led by a giant yellow lizard.
And it talks! Good Gods it talks. So please anyone, out there, the military, the hounds or even just any good Samaritan, help us. We’re trapped with no way out, and our supplies are rapidly depleting by the minute, please help us or we won’t survive the week, please…..tone…….he…….tone”
There was an expected moment of silence in the cockpit, before David spoke up.
“We have to help them.”
“They’re not our problem.”
“How can you say that Lilith, there could be dying out there, we can do something about this.”
“Like I said it’s not our problem, besides he called the military, I’m sure the military can render the helpful required.”
“Cut the bullshit Lilith, you and I know both know the military would not give a s**t about a town in the middle of no where. If they have a vested interest in that place, we would not have received that message.”
“I don’t care, there’s no need to stick out our necks for people we don’t know, we’re not saviors, were not saints, and we’re most definitely not heroes!, so throw that misguided sense of responsibility out of your mind, because it is hypocritical. By choice or not, you have killed innocents to get to this point in your journey, my son included.
You can afford to let some people who have no connection or use to you whatsoever die. Because even if you save them and don’t die in the process they will still die. Living outside the fortified walls of the city states is just plain suicide. They would be dead either way.”
Lilith had a point, in her twisted, and suddenly self centered and selfish kind of way, but saving those people was not the only reason he wanted to got there.
“I’m not going there to play hero or to save anyone.”
“Oh really!, then why are you going there David?”
“For revenge.”
This time it was Minerva who spoke out in shock.
“What?”
“The reason why I want to go there, is for the same reason your son is dead. The Shark that killed him, was under control from a giant yellow lizard. The same lizard now terrorizing Oak valley, or at least another with similar powers.
Besides even if it’s not the same lizard as the one responsible for your son’s death, I have to kill it, to make sure what happened to you does not happen to anyone else.”
Lilith was silent, David was afraid he shocked her into sadness once again. Then all of a sudden Lilith’s white hair turned back into the black David had only seen once, her skin took on her diamond form and her hair turned white again. Then she had this look in her eye, that promised all kinds of pain And torture to any fool that dares to stand In her way. It was a look David had only seen once before when she jumped into the sea to fish her son from the stomach of the mutated shark which ate him.
That look sent chills all over David’s body, and it was something he had sorely wished he would never see on her face again. But you can’t always have what you want.
“Tell me David, where can I find this Oak valley.”
……….
She couldn’t remember the last time she had a descent meal. While the subterranean world of Pangea had its rather eccentric tastes and delicacies, it did not have what she has truly developed a taste for………..human meat.
She loved how they taste, their bodies had every texture or flavor you could ever want in a meat. There was the soft part, the juicy part, the chewy part, and their still beating heart. That was what she loved the most, crushing their still beating heart slowly beneath her gums as their hearts blood spilled onto her tongue with a taste of pure heaven. It was wonderful, very wonderful, and it was a feeling she wanted to enjoy for the rest of her days.
She had particularly developed a taste for boys between the age of seven to twenty four. There was just this innocence in their flesh that reminded her of him, of that boy whose name she would never forget……..David!. He took her Ahmed away from her, he was her first true connection to the world, and David took him away. She was going to make sure she finds him, wherever he was hiding on this planet, and then she was going to make an example of him to the other humans.
But she couldn’t kill him, she and Ahmed shared a mind, there were one, and from his memories she knew how fond of the boy Ahmed truly was, it was why she kept on rethinking her plans of killing him. She was getting stronger, but with it came a clarity she never expected, and with it came feelings and indecisiveness. So maybe she couldn’t kill him, but she could make him hers, everything that Ahmed was supposed to be for her, she would make sure he becomes. Yes, yes, that’s what’s meant to happen, when she finds him, they would both become one.
One soul, one mind, in two bodies and in two hearts. He would be her most fearsome general and they would rule the world of Pangea together.
She really loved her vision of the future, and as she chewed on the liver of the eleven year old boy, while his mother watches from a distance with tears on her face, helpless and awaiting her own demise, she decided she needed a name. One that would shake the foundations of Pangea and be worthy of Ahmed's memory. She hissed it to herself in pleasure while all her snacks and subjects watched on I’m fear.
“Aaahhhmmmmeeeevvvviiiiiddddd…… Ahmevid” half for the savior, and half for the destroyer.
