They left the remainder of their food and candles in the cave in case they ever had to come back and hide again. As soon as they heard the men in the mine stop their work, they crept back past the underground lake and the old boat, and made their way to the low tunnel. Miriam and Sam still both had sore knees from the last time, but they crawled over the hard rock with the water dripping on their backs again without complaining.
