5: Danger

*** Just when I was about to rise to my feet and storm to meet him, he appeared by the door with a smile on. His smile slipped, taking in my expression. His river blue eyes travelled to his phone in my hand and they popped out of their sockets. "Oh no." I pursed my lips furiously. He walked up to me with a tray on his hands. He dropped the tray on the bedside table and sat beside me. "You're with my phone," "Obviously, yes." I spat. "Give it to me," he extended his hand. "I don't check your phone but our American History Teacher called you and sent a message to you." "Ruth, right?" He took the phone from me, glancing at the screen for a while. "Yes," I folded my arms across my chest. He raised his head from the phone, gazing at me. "You shouldn't let this message bother you." "Why wouldn't I? What's this all about?" "Ruth isn't important. She's my ex- girlfriend, before I met you. She claimed to be madly in love with me but she was always cheating on me and I knew it. I finally broke up with her and was lucky to have you." My face relaxed. "She was always sending silly messages like this to me, but at longer intervals, like six months, though I confirmed she had a boyfriend." "Why did you confirm? You still want her?" "No. Jeez. I was out with my sister and her children, then I saw her kissing a guy and they were confessing their love to each other. A few weeks ago, she began sending me such crazy messages every two or three days, trying to call me though I never answer her call. I answered and told her to stop calling me, she cried and said she still loves me. I'll assume she broke up with her boyfriend." "Yeah, she looks heartbroken." "Now that I'm working in your school, I didn't know she works there too, but she's being so frustrating. She has told every female teacher we're together and some of them have begun pairing us. So frustrating." "Why'd they pair you? She's no match for you." I frowned again. He smiled. "She made them do so. Don't worry, I'll clarify it but there's nothing between us, she's simply crazy." "Why didn't you tell me this earlier?" "I didn't feel it was necessary because she's not necessary in my life, and I didn't want you to feel jealous like you're obviously feeling right now." "I don't like this at all. Mrs Ruth, Sage, Sarah and almost every girl in school wants you." I grumbled. "So much danger to our relationship everywhere." "It's not, there's no danger." He chuckled, held my arm to pull me closer to him. "I assure you that nothing would harm our well-built relationship. We've come this far, nothing would ruin it. I love you, not any of them. You have my baby, my heir." He kissed the side of my forehead. I peered at him with a blank expression. "What's with the silence? What are you thinking of?" He asked. "Denver," I called and he responded with a hum. "Have you ever cheated on me?" He furrowed his forehead. "Why'd you ask that?" "Many reasons; we've been together for a while now, nothing has happened between us after the one that led to Aeryn. I'm just curious, don't you miss the s****l part of your life? Whether accidental or not, have you ever cheated on me?" I asked seriously. "Well… we officially became a couple over a year ago, not immediately after Ivy's birth." He looked heavenwards. "Uh… I won't lie to you," oh gosh, he had? My heart began throbbing really fast in my ribcage. "I— I accidentally— I might have hooked up with a lady, before we became official." He raised his eyebrows, pursing his lips. "Oh God," I panted, fanning my face. "Tris, don't overreact to this, it was only when you were pregnant with Ivy and a few months after you gave birth to her." "Oh my God!" Sweat beads formed on my forehead. "There's someone else?" "No, there isn't. Stop this, you'll make me regret letting you know. I only want to keep no secrets. I've become more responsible after taking up the responsibility of you and Ivy. The woman died from cancer. I promise I love only you, there's no one else. I know you always have insecurities due to the way our relationship started off." "I just want to go to bed right now, I'm tired." I rose to my feet, trying to get this new discovery off my head. I always thought he had never cheated one me and I had always adored his faithfulness. "Tris, you can't be mad at me over this." He held my hands. "I'm not, okay?" I yanked my hands out of his grip. "It doesn't seem like that to me. Would you at least eat with me first?" "No, I just want to sleep. I'm not hungry anymore. I have to attend school tomorrow, I need quality rest. I haven't been sleeping so well lately." "Tris," he grumbled. "I'll be in my room. I'll need time to process this, I'm certain it'll be out of my head after I sleep. Goodnight." I waved him off, walking towards the door. "Goodnight to you too." He yelled behind me. *** Judging from the comfortability, wideness and softness of the bed and pillows, I could instantly tell where I was. I rolled in bed, hugging a pillow to my chest. I heard the sound of the door being opened then in a few more seconds, I felt something land on my bed. Warm hands held my cheeks. "Mom, wake up!" Aeryn yelled. I scrunched my face up, turning away from her and buried my head in a pillow. "Tris, get up. Denver said you have to go to school, be ready." Why was she screaming so much? She held my shoulder, shaking me. I whimpered, slowly opened my eyes and was greeted by the beautiful smell and sight of a fresh morning, as well as a glowing Aeryn. "Good morning." She grinned, arching her back to kiss my cheek. "That one's from me." She kissed me again. "This one's from Daddy." I chuckled, sitting up straight in bed. I noticed she was looking excessively clean and smelled so nice. She was in a strawberry t-shirt and a cute skirt with cartoons on it, and her dark blonde was tied into two ponytails secured with pink ribbons. "You've had your bath?" "Yes. A very nice old lady gave me a bubble bath, I told her a lot of interesting stories and she says she loves me." "Why won't she love you?" I chuckled, fiddling with one of the ribbons. "Of course, she will. I'm extremely loveable." She fluttered her eyelashes. "Okay, end of talking. Please have a bath and come downstairs for breakfast. I'll meet the old lady again, she wants to show me something." "Fine, I will." I smiled. She climbed off my bed, scuttling away and shut the door. I yawned, also climbed off the bed and laid it. As I had expected, our bags were on a sofa in the room. I walked up to them and took out my clothes. I left for the bathroom and did my morning rituals in it, got out of it with a towel around me. I applied my morning skincare and haircare routine then got into my clothes. I tied my hair up into a ponytail, grabbed my school bag and left the room. I scuttled down the stairs. Denver was on a sofa with one of his legs crossed over the other. He looked dressed up for school. "Finally, you're awake. Jayana would be here soon to pick you up." "Yeah, good morning to you too." I didn't mean to sound grumpy at all but it came out that way. "Are you still mad at me?" He asked. "Nope." I replied, walking to the dining table and had my seat on one of the 10 dining chairs around the rectangular table. The table was filled with various foods to select from. I really wondered why so much food was cooked for only a few people. I served myself some pancakes, pouring enough honey on it. Denver appeared behind me and pulled out the chair beside me, sat on it while facing me. "Don't be mad at me." I took a bite of my pancake, glancing at him. I knew I had no right to be mad at him. He was an extremely awesome boyfriend and I knew he loved me though I always had fears. It was nice of him to confess to me last night. He hadn't cheated on me because we weren't together yet. I wasn't mad at him anymore, I was simply tired. "I said I'm not." I took another bite of my pancake. "It doesn't seem like it to me." He made a gloomy face. "I know you think I don't love you so much and prefer someone older." How did he know that? "You really need to know how much I love and care about you. Ignore the age gap, you're perfect. I don't need someone older, I have you, you're all I need. You're my baby's mother, I'll cherish you for that. I love you the way you are." He confessed. I smiled. "Thank you." I returned to my meal, taking another bite of my pancakes. "Thank you?" He frowned playfully. "I demand for you to stop this attitude, else you'll be put in detention." He made his voice extremely deeper than normal. It was funny and cute. I laughed. "I'm really not mad, I'm just tired. I love you too." I poked his nose. He smiled. "You're amazing." "You are too. Denver, I was wondering…" I took another bite of my pancake, waiting to swallow it before I continued, "... For tests and exams, do I have a bonus? Or like a sneak peak to the questions?" I winked. He grinned. "You're adorable but, nope." "No?" I frowned. "I'm your girlfriend." "I know, it doesn't change the fact that you'll study as hard as every other student. You can be taught ahead of class if you want but there's no way I'm cheating. My students' tests and exams would be scored according to their abilities, whether or not one of them is my girlfriend. I won't ruin your life, you'll have to learn." "You're so cruel." I growled. He threw his head back to laugh. "Can you be any less adorable? I don't think so, but it still doesn't change my answer." "I'm not adorable, I'm hot." I rolled my eyes. "You're both." "Say I'm hot." "You're hot." I smirked. "Am I sexy?" He drew his eyes in skepticism. "You're sexy." "Say you want me in your—" I was cut off by the sound of the doorbell. "It should be Jayana, I'll get the door. I'm certain my ears were saved from hearing something dirty." He rose to his feet and scampled to the door. I smirked to myself and resumed eating. I heard the sound of the door being unlocked. "You're here?" Denver asked in surprise. "Yes, Mr. Crosby." My eyes popped out of their sockets at the sound of that familiar voice. "I'm Sage." Her giggling followed afterwards. Sage? How could she be here? Was she crazy? Oh no, she couldn't see me in here too.
