Chapter 10: Danger

1096 Words
While waiting for Halimaw inside his underground castle, Patalim remembered the day he was exiled into the pit of darkness. It was vividly flashes back in his mind. After thousands of years, his memory keeps flickering like a broken bulb... "Ruler, please forgive me. I have no intention to rebel. I beg you to forgive me, ruler." "You intently did that on purpose. Why did you let the first human I created to eat the apple?" "It was the snake, ruler. The snake lied to me." "The snake is an animal and has no idea of what is right and wrong. You are an angel and you know how to distinguish truth from lie. It has nothing to do with the snake. Care to explain?" "Yes. I can explain. I have been watching and guiding them in the Garden of Truth and Lies when I did not notice the appearance of Sawa in the tree full of apples." "You said earlier that the snake deceived you. Then why are you making a new story that you were not aware of Sawa's existence? Are you lying to me, Mabait?" "No, ruler. I am not lying. I am telling the truth. Please, believe me." "I know you lied, Mabait. Your heart is throbbing so fast and very nervous. I have to punish you." "Please, give me another chance. I can prove to you that I am not lying." "The expression of your eyes speaks differently. Your heart is beating faster and I can feel that you lied to me, Mabait. In my power and authority, you will be exiled into the darkness called Dungeons of the Killers. You will be in charge of judging the criminals in that abyss." "NO!" Mabait was furious by the ruler's decision. He wanted to escape from the punishment, so he decided to fight with the angels of peace. He used his strength to punch each one of them. But, the army of peacemakers surrounded him. He tried flying with the use of his wings to get out of the Office of the Penalty, but he was trapped. The peacemakers whip of judgement reached him and coiled into his body, pulling him down. He wanted to break the whip surrounding his body using more of his strength, but ended up making it bigger and tighter. He shouted and yelled. Cursing every angel in front of him. He even throws blasphemous words to the ruler. "You are not real! You're deceiving all of us, your angels here in Kaluwalhatian! I cursed you, ruler. I CURSED YOU!" "Enough, Mabait! My punishment to you was supposed to be a lighter way of helping you realize your mistake. But, you make it worst and throw a tantrum. You even tried to escape the punishment! Now, I will add more to your stubbornness and rebel heart. Your name will be changed from Mabait or Kindness into Patalim. You will forever eat the human soul in the Dungeons of Killers. You are not allowed to leave there. Without human soul, you will die! Throw him into the Abyss of Death. Kaluluwa will also change his appearance and lead him to the Dungeons of Killers." "NOOOOOOO!" ... A moment of silence covered the entire dungeons and Patalim cannot forget what exactly happened to him. He also still remembered how cruel Kaluluwa was in the Abyss of Death. He tortured him. He cut his wings and sliced his face. He burned his face, changing his handsomeness into an ugly one that has three horned of the devil. Kaluluwa made him suffered even more when he leads him inside the dungeon full of criminals. He was afraid at first, but he has no choice because every time his stomach growls, he needs to eat one of those human souls entering the gate. He did not want to judge them. He wanted to eat all of them. And only by eating them, he can live another thousands of years in that darkness. His image shifted from being kind to an atrocious and brutal monster inside the jail of killers. For him, exiling him is a blessing. That is why, he must do everything to capture and eat Eugene Laurent's soul. Since he cannot leave his post, he can only rely on Halimaw to lead the battle. "Chief, this is Halimaw," a voice from the outside erased the memories he had in his mind. "Come in, Halimaw," he prepared himself to tell his plan to him and ensured that he understand. "I am all ears, Chief. What can I do for you?" "I want you to lead an army of elite of killers and proceed right away. Gavreel will accompany Eugene into the Valley of Forgiveness." "What? Why? How?" "I told you to listen first, Halimaw!" "Okay. I'm sorry." Patalim tried to calm down and continued talking about the things Halimaw must do to capture Eugene. "You and the soldiers must block their path so that they cannot enter the valley. By all means, you must do everything to stop them from landing into Haraya's land." "How do we deal with Gavreel?" "Uwak will help you. She's already watching them and you must hurry before they enter the valley. Kill that angel and bring me the human soul by hook or by crook. You understand?" "Yes, sir! I'll go now to fetch the army of elite and headed straight into the clouds to seize Gavreel's plan and kill him. If I fail on this task, my death will be the p*****t for an unfulfilled mission. Aye, aye, chief!" Halimaw bowed to him and right off he went outside to choose the criminals while Patalim looked at him in silence, didn't even mind answering him back. What matters to him now is that Uwak and Halimaw must succeed. If they fail, it will be the end of their lives and Dungeons of Killers will cease to exist because his death was already written in the Book of Punishment. His life depends on eating the soul of the humans. ... Gavreel and Eugene were happily singing on top of Cirrus clouds. Eugene must have missed singing when he was still alive, so he just followed his rhythm and duet with him. They were halfway on the lyrics when Cirrus suddenly stopped, making Eugene confused. He looked at Gavreel and saw the serious look of the angel. He tried to talk, but he pointed his fingers in his lips as a way of saying to be quiet. "Danger is coming our way. We have to hurry, Cirrus cloud. Go!"
