‘He’s going to cause trouble,’ said the orderly. ‘You should have let me knock him out.’ He held up a syringe he’d been hiding behind his back.
‘Nonsense, Karl. The boy worships me. After all, I’m the one who is going to cure him.’ Dr Wood gave a hard smile.
‘What happens when he realises you’ve been lying to him, that all those tests to determine the extent of his abilities were so you can use him for your research?’
‘By then it will be far too late for him to do anything about it. My research will be made public knowledge.’ She shrugged. ‘He’ll be free to do whatever he wants after that.’
‘You know the media will be all over these kids once you go public. They’ll be hounded for the rest of their lives.’
