He poured out the champagne and then he handed first a glass to Erlina, then one to the Marquis and one to the Vicar. “Can I have some champagne,” Gerry asked. “I have never tasted it.” “You can have a sip of mine,” Erlina answered with a smile. She handed him her glass and Gerry took a cautious sip. “It’s not bad,” he said, “but I think I like lemonade better.” “That is very sensible of you,” the Marquis said. “You stick to lemonade until you are my age.” “I have been to see your horses again,” Gerry answered, “and they are more comfortable than they were when they first arrived. But now two of them have to go shopping.” The Marquis smiled. “That will be a new experience for them and tomorrow, if they are not tired, you must ride whichever one you fancy.” “Thank you, thank you!”
