I woke up in the early afternoon, having slept more deeply and peacefully than I had in a long time. There were no nightmares, and even though I was still in someone else’s body, I felt surprisingly good.
My body ached from everything I had been through, but as I sat up and stretched, a calm smile spread across my lips. I tossed aside the blanket, grabbed the dirty dress, and put it on before running my fingers through my hair.
It was odd not having everything I needed to get ready, but I had to make do for now until I figured out how to return to my own body.
I opened the door to the room I was staying in—Jonah’s sister’s room. I hadn’t felt great about sleeping here, but as soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out.
