When I came outside, Jonah was waiting for me. The light had been dimmed inside the house, but now outside, where the sun was shining even into the alley, I saw exactly how bruised his face was. He had hidden it well, and it only reminded me that I had forgotten all about getting the full story of what happened when he went to go meet up with Ralph. I told myself I would have to get the full story, once we were out of here.
Jonah gave me a quick smile before getting a gentle grip on my arm, and led me to the end of the alley, looking at the many people walking around.
“We need to get you some new clothes,” he said, glancing at me. “You stand out too much.”
“A bit hard getting anything else … considering where I just stayed for two days,” I said.
