Chapter 7 Things She Couldn't Stop

782 Words
The next morning. Once Eve was awake, the maids all came in to help her wash up and get dressed. Seeing so many of them, Eve was still a bit confused about what was going on and could only watch as they bustled around, packing all her personal belongings into suitcases. The maids remained cold and silent, not talking to Eve at all as they finished all the preparations. After they left, Eve looked down at the expensive dress she didn't really like, sighed softly, and walked to the window to gaze outside. The master bedroom was at the highest point of the estate, and when the forest haze cleared, distant city buildings could faintly be seen towering into the sky. "Looks like you're ready." Yellen's voice came from behind, and Eve quickly snapped out of her thoughts to look at him. Yellen was dressed today in a formal outfit that looked like military honors, with a rare moonstone pinned to his chest ribbon. The gem's deep blue light was dazzling, much like the blue eyes of Master, showcasing the beauty brought by his lycanthrope lineage. His perfect legs, powerful physique, and finely chiseled handsome face were enough to captivate anyone. "Are we leaving here today?" Eve recalled Forrester's earlier reminder. "Since I've returned home, I can't just stay in the mansion forever," Yellen paused slightly, his tone tinged with playfulness, "Otherwise, those troublemakers outside would be very disappointed." His words seemed casual, but concealed indescribable bloodshed and turmoil. Eve wasn't quite ready to deal with the changes yet; she felt a bit unsure and resistant about it all. Sensing her sensitive mood, Yellen explained. "Your standard of living won't decrease once we move." As the man misunderstood her, Eve simply forced a smile without explaining. Deep down, she just didn't want to disrupt the peace in her life. "Then let's go," she said softly. Since she couldn't stop the changes, she chose to bravely accept them—that was her decision. Very well. She was a sensible woman. Yellen's gaze was satisfied as he gently touched Eve's long hair with his fingertips, saying, "You'll like our new home." Listening to his soft voice, Eve's mind briefly blanked out, with many fragmented images flashing through her mind. Blood vessels swelling, blue vertical pupils, and a familiar voice... Ugh! Her head hurt so much! "Are you okay from last night..." Eve's hand pressed against her forehead instinctively, concern evident in her voice. As soon as these words came out, Yellen's figure noticeably stiffened, his eyes suspiciously assessing Eve. "What did you say?" Yellen pressed on. He had clearly used an illusion before losing control last night, so why did Eve still remember what happened? Eve suddenly snapped back to reality, looking at Yellen with a serious expression. Nervously, she took a step back, completely forgetting what she had just said. Seeing her reaction, Yellen decided not to press further. He needed to observe more carefully. "Time's up; let's go," he said. With that, Yellen took Eve's wrist and led her out the door. ***** A Rolls-Royce with a special family crest drove out of the estate; Forrester sat in the front seat, reporting the situation to Yellen. Eve had no intention of listening to what Forrester was saying, her eyes lingering sadly on everything outside the car window. She thought living here was a confinement, but now that she was really leaving, she realized she had already considered this place home. "Will you miss it here?" Yellen suddenly asked. Logically, Eve had been confined in the mansion for three years and should have longed for freedom even more. Upon hearing Master speak, Forrester immediately stopped his report, turned to face forward, and like the driver, looked away. Eve first shook her head, but then nodded, saying, "Just used to it..." Habit was a very normal thing to say, and it shouldn't offend Yellen if she said it out loud, she thought. Unfortunately, Yellen had long been suspicious of Eve, and didn't think Eve's 'habit' was the real reason. "Forget about it here, no matter who's here to worry you," his tone was cold, "From now on, you won't have a chance to come back." He misunderstood her again! Eve pursed her lips and gNanced at Yellen, feeling somewhat annoyed but not knowing how to refute him. If something hadn't happened and the other person refused to believe it, there was no point in trying to explain. As the conversation came to a sudden end, the atmosphere inside the car became very awkward. Yellen and Eve each turned their heads to look out the window at the speeding scenery, each with their own displeasure.
