Chapter 4 Destined Mate

814 Words
Eve clenched her teeth, biting down hard on her lower lip to restrain herself from speaking rashly. In that tense moment, she desperately wanted to lash out at Yellen for his blunder, but she knew she had to keep her composure. Reclaiming her lost memories and identity was her priority, and angering him now could jeopardize everything. White's fury was unpredictable; if he caught wind of her mistake, he might destroy all her possessions in a fit of rage. "Why so quiet all of a sudden? Aren't you going to argue back?" Yellen almost seemed to taunt Eve, hoping she would engage. Eve shook her head. There was no point in explaining herself further; he had already made up his mind based on hearsay. Seeing her concede, Yellen pushed back his chair and left the room with annoyance. After a brief pause, Fury quietly followed Yellen out while the rest of the staff lingered in the background, observing the departure of the estate's true master. ***** Yellen reclined on the study sofa, eyes shut, seeking a moment of peaceful repose. His health indeed matched the rumors of its decline, casting doubt on his claim as the rightful heir to the Andrew family despite being the eldest son and first in line to the throne. Some hoped for his recovery, while others secretly wished for his demise. Both factions viewed him merely as a pawn in their power struggles. Three years earlier, Yellen's cousin Paul Andrew had found his mate and successfully awakened his lycanthrope mark, sparking unrest among the lower ranks and intensifying efforts to reshape the succession plan. Despite years of searching, Yellen had failed to find his mate, which raised doubts about his mental fortitude and suitability for the future Alpha Wolf King throne. In a move to sow confusion, he had suddenly agreed to an absurd marriage proposal. However, on the day of the wedding, he was conspicuously absent, claiming a sudden illness that required urgent treatment abroad. The of the Norman family as the bride was strategic, leveraging Paul's strong ties with them to deceive rivals and buy time. Fortuitously, shortly after his departure, Yellen had a miraculous dream while abroad. In this dream, he encountered a mysterious woman who seemed to fill the gaps in his fractured psyche, leading to an unexpected recovery of his frail health. The sudden revelation affirmed that his mate existed somewhere in the world. Now, his mission was clear. He had to find her. When that day came, Eve would eventually depart, and he would grant her every wish as compensation within his reach. Suddenly, his thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the study door. Yellen swiftly composed himself, hiding any trace of his emotions. "Come in." The door opened, and in walked Fury, carrying a freshly brewed cup of coffee. "Welcome back, Master." Fury greeted warmly, his eyes crinkling kindly despite the stark contrast of his white hair. Even the typically stoic Yellen softened his demeanor in his private interaction with Fury. Back then, his parents had fallen victim to a family conspiracy, leaving him as a young survivor with fragile health. Without Fury's devoted care, he might not have made it to adulthood. Yellen greeted warmly. "Long time no see, Fury. How have you been all these years?" Fury chuckled. "Not too shabby! Things would be even smoother if those meddlesome folks didn't stir up trouble around here. But seeing you back fills my heart with joy. Your health seems to be almost back on track." "Nearly there. Just dealing with some lingering issues," Yellen replied, glancing down at his hands. "Lingering issues?" Yellen admitted cautiously. "Compared to the rest of the family, the full moon affects me more. During full moons, I struggle to maintain control." Fury's smile faded. "Could this mean the Alpha Wolf King's ultimate power is awakening within you?" Yellen sighed deeply, saying, "I'm not certain yet... Can I trust everyone here at the estate? I can't afford any leaks about my condition, whether it's good or bad." Fury reassured him. "Rest assured, the remaining staff are completely trustworthy. They won't breathe a word. Plus, once you're back in the Metropolis for your grand return, you’ll be surrounded only by the most reliable individuals." "Yes, it's time to face everyone." Yellen smirked, anticipating the envy his return in good health would provoke. "I'll make sure everything is ready." Fury assured him. "Furthermore, I need you and Glenn to work together to locate someone," Yellen urged without hesitation. Finding his mate was now a matter of urgency. "I'm on it! Given that this individual established a mental link with you without your knowledge..." Fury's voice brimmed with anticipation. He had gleaned this crucial detail from a recent phone conversation and was profoundly grateful for it. Yellen nodded, affirming, "It's highly likely that this person is my destined mate."
