Chapter 20 They spent the next hour in Dane’s car, drinking. He’d remembered his flask and they passed it back and forth, silence pressing in until it became unbearable, one of them breaking it with an awkward statement, the other grunting, and then letting the silence build back up again. It was too much, the feel of the quiet, when barely anyone even drove by, when it was too cold to really hear the water. “I bet it’s full of people here in summer,” said Dane, passing the flask over to Sean. “Yeah.” Silence again, the frustrating, terrifying silence.
