Chapter Four

At first, I stood there staring at the strange looking bed, this is my first time seeing such kind of bed.
“You look like you’ve never seen a double bunk before”
“That’s because I haven’t”
“No you have”
“Can I ask you a question?”
“Go on”
“Who is that lady that brought me here?”
“You got to be joking right?”
“Joking about what?”
“How can you not know, she is literally the finest maiden in this village”
“Okay but I still don’t know her”
“If you don’t know someone like Lady Charlotte, who then do you know?”
“No one”
“You are kidding right?” Hermione asked me with so much disbelief in eye.
“No am not”
“I thought this assignment was going to be a really easy one”
“It will”
“That’s not possible, do you know how many ladies you need to know their names”
“I have a really good memory so I bet I can remember that faster than you can imagine.”
“Girl we are talking about Lady Charlotte”
“I know”
“Do you even have an idea of how crazy she can be when things are not done her way?”
“How crazy can she be and from the discussion I had with her earlier, she seemed like a really nice person”
“she is usually like that during your first meeting and afterwards the real her begins to show”
“So all you are saying is that I need to be worried or something?”
“Yes, get some rest so we can start working”
“Okay”
Few days after arriving here, things have been moving better than I actually expected, literally all the domestic staff has been helping me get acquainted to the village because no one wants to face the wrath of Lady Charlotte which for some reason I’m still unable to wrap my head round why they are so scared of her when she has just been nothing but an angel to me.
Lady Charlotte is the daughter of the second in command here just like my best friend Irene. And honestly, I must confess, she is the prettiest lady here, I mean, her eye is so blue and as bright as the morning sky, her skin is so flawless, not even a housefly dared to perch on her skin, her golden-brown hair is really beyond what I can describe, her body so slim and slender, from her collection of outfits, one can tell her curvy and endowed she is and she definitely didn’t look like her people are age. I was shocked to learn that she is just eighteen, like how can an eighteen years old girl be so breathtaking. No wonder guys always food her house with gifts, all trying to woo her but she is yet to be moved, probably because the one she wants doesn’t seem to want her.
Lady Charlotte is such a spoilt brat and gets whatever she wants except for Rocco’s first son who has bluntly rejected her on several occasions which after each rejected, we her maids have to bear the transfer of aggression not like there is anything else we can do about it.
Lady Charlotte’s parents has been trying so hard to marry her out to so many great suitors but Lady Charlotte has repeatedly rejected all of them saying that if it isn’t Xavier, Rocco’s first son, then she wouldn’t marry someone else.
TWO YEARS LATER
It’s been few days after my sixteenth birthday and honestly, I wish that day never comes because of the trauma that comes with is just too unbearable for me. This days Lady Charlotte and I has not really been in good terms like we used to be, she now sends me to do the most tedious chores. She has become a lot more aggressive than she used to be probably because most of her of pairs are married and she has been rejecting all her mates. All I can say is that Lady Charlotte is one hell of a lucky because not everyone is as privileged as she is to have multiple mates.
As Lady Charlotte had decided to start treating me trash, I too decided to not subdue to either her or parents, if not because of what happened to my family, I wouldn’t be here doing chores for this ignorant family.
Today, Lady Charlotte had this male visitor who came to see her, her parents think that she will finally accept this guy considering the fact that he is also the son of an Alpha just like Xavier, wealthier than Alpha Rocco’s family and looks as breathtaking as Xavier, so they believe he will make Lady Charlotte get over her childhood crush. I’m still marveled at how Lady Charlotte really wants to be mated with someone she is way much older than.
Inside the room with Lady Charlotte and her guest and I was pouring tea into the gentleman’s cup when I noticed him seriously staring at my ass.
“I’m sorry my Lord but I do not appreciate you looking at me in that manner”
“You filthy w***e!!!” Lady Charlotte said after giving me a resounding slap. “Will you keep your eyes off my man. You know what? Get away from my sight before I descend on you in a way that you wouldn’t like” she said screaming.
“But my Lady, your guest was obviously staring at me in an indecent way”
“Didn’t you hear me, get lost” she said and raised her hand to slap me again, but this time I was able to dodge the slap which got her really upset.
“I’m sorry my Lady”
“To your room Anna and there shall be no food for you till further notice” she said and I quietly left the room.
“You are back so early” Hermione said immediately I got back into our room.
“Yeah”
“What did you do this time?”
“Nothing, but I think you should go attend to Lady Charlotte, I bet she is already looking out to see you”
“Anna you will not be the end of me in this house.” She said before quickly leaving the room.
I’ve literally become everyone’s enemy here because there is the rule here that when one maid does something wrong, every other person including the offender gets punished and here, these ladies never do anything wrong which makes me feel bad for them because there is no week that we aren’t been punished because of me. But I won’t say that it is entirely my fault because unlike them I have zero tolerance to certain rubbish that these rich folks display here.
The only reason I’m still here is because they provide shelter and food to me which is better than roaming around the streets hungry.
Tomorrow evening there will be banquet at Alpha Ricco’s place where all the noble men and women will be gathered. “This will be a perfect time to finally meet Alpha Ricco” I said to myself sounding so excited.
“Hermione!!! Anna!!” Lady Charlotte screamed our names making me to jump out of bed in so much shock.
“Yes my Lady” Hermione and I answered simultaneously.
“Follow me” she said and stormed out and we quickly followed suit.
“Where could she be taking us to?” I asked Hermione in a very low tone.
“How am I supposed to know the answer to that question.” She answered in a grumpy tone
“Calm down girl, I was just asking a harmless question”
“I know that this is all because of the drama you displayed in front of Lady Charlotte and her guest”
“Don’t blame me when you don’t even know what transpired between us”
“I may not know what happened but I bet that it was all your fault”
“Don’t just jump into conclusion”
“Girl all you done for the past two is cause all the maids here trouble, can’t you just go back to where ever you came from”
“You think that if I could go back to where I came from, that I would be here”
“Not like I care, just get lost, you’ve caused us so much pain” Hermione said in a really harsh tone which literally tore my heart into several pieces.
“Silence” Lady Charlotte said.
“We are sorry my Lady” we apologized.
“Take them with you” Lady Charlotte said to the much younger lady
“Take us to where my Lady?” I asked
“You’ll find out when you get there” she said
“I’m sorry my Lady but I’m not going anywhere if I’m not been told where I’m going to” I said unapologetically.
“Lady Charlotte, isn’t she just a maid?” the strange lady standing with us asked.
“She is”
“Is she always like that?”
“Yes, since the day she set her foot into the house, she has been nothing but a thorn of my flesh and also to everyone in this household.”
“If you don’t mind My Lady, I’ll like to keep her for a few more days”
“I really don’t think that’s a good idea, this girl right here is capable of pulling down Alpha Rocco’s household”
“I still want to give it a try”
“As you wish my Lady” Lady Charlotte said
“This way please” the lady said.
“I wasn’t actually joking when I said that I wasn’t going anywhere until you tell me where you are taking”
“Anna can you just do as you are being told” Hermione said
“I’m sorry but I can’t”
“Anna please, this stubbornness won’t do us any good” Hermione said still trying to convince me as I sat on the pavement outside the house, refusing to move an inch.
“If you must know, you two will work as maid for the banquet that will be held at Alpha Rocco’s house tomorrow evening”
“Was that s hard to say” I said, got up and dusted my gown.
“Just so you know, you won’t be retuning with your friend” the Lady said to me.
“No like I care. Can we go now before I change my mind” I said before we began our journey.
