BROKEN EPISODE TWELVE

I got a cab with my gun still wrapped in my jacket. I didn't know what way to carry it best and I didn't care. All I knew was that the gun was going to send someone six feet under and I didn't want to know who it was.

While in the cab I called Alice and asked where she was and she told me she was at home. Alice was pregnant and the last time we spoke, she had stopped working and was now just at home waiting for the birth of her baby.

I told her I wanted to see her and she told me it was okay and asked me to go home. There were two things to that. She either genuinely wanted me to go see her or it was a set up..I chose to go. If it was a set up, that was going to be okay because there was going to be a bloodbath.

I hanged up and almost immediately Leo's call came through. He must have gotten home and found me missing or he was just being paranoid, very typical of him.

Me: Leo...

Leo: I told you it was dangerous to leave the house, you needed Melvin and you brought him here, where else have you gone?.

Me: to look for answers Leo. I will talk to you later.

Leo: wait....wait... He said you took a gun with you, where are you Benta?

I ignored that and hanged up.

Leo: Damn this girl!

He shouted angrily and turned to Melvin.

Leo: you know this is your fault right?..

Melvin: how is it my fault, the woman has gone crazy.

Leo: you made her go crazy and your brain dead wife provoked her. Benta is not thinking straight and should she do something stupid...

Melvin: what do you care about what Benta does?. Have you been sleeping with her?

Leo: I swear to God if you were not wearing that neck brace....I would have dismantled your jaw.

Leo walked away from him opened the door and left. He drove Melvin's car and while in it, he couldn't stop calling benta who kept ignoring his call..

Driver: madam, we are almost there. which gate are we using?

Me: gate A.

I said looking up briefly as I wore my jacket and stuck the gun on my armpit.

Me: gate B is only for exiting vehicles..

Driver: okay.

He continued driving then stopped by the gate and picked a pass from the guard. Every vehicle that reported to that estate had to undergo some security check.. we did but they didn't screen the car neither did they screen us.

When we got in, I paid the cab guy and shortly after he left and I made my way to Alice's place. I knocked on the door and when she saw me, she was all jumpy and excited to see me. She surely couldn't be acting. Alice was just being the jovial, and all bubbly Alice that I knew..

Alice: girl, long time...

Me: not too long though the last time we were together I was dying.

Alice: I remember. That was so sad. How is baby Ethan?

She asked so innocently that she couldn't be the one hiding my baby.

Me: the truth is.... Ethan is missing.

Alice: what, What happened?

Me: Jade happened. She gave my son away Alice and I don't know to who, I don't know what to do.

She was silent for a moment then looked at me sadly..

Alice: can I offer you something, maybe tea?

I nodded though after the poison incident, I had to be extra cautious...

Alice called her help and told her to bring me some tea and the lady said responded almost immediately.

Alice: I want to tell you something Benta.

I looked at her keenly and nodded. It looked like it was something serious by the way she was looking around.

Me: what is it?

Alice: stay away from Melvin and his family.

Me: why?

I acted dumb so that I could grasp all the information that was there to grasp...

Alice: listen to me very carefully dear, my mum and her sister are not good people. After your poisoning at the dining table, I felt like something ought to have happened when we left the two in the kitchen plus why were you the only one who ended up in the hospital almost lifeless?.

Me: I would like to know too.

Alice: it's a good thing you decided to visit because I was going to look for you anyway.

I smiled very briefly just to ease up the tension I was feeling inside..

The lady brought my tea and I smiled as I watched her disappear back to the kitchen, Alice also left briefly.

Leo called again still demanding to know where I was then he gave me some stories about asking some friend of his who is an IT guru to find Melvin on our wedding day then he told me he could find me too so I decided to tell him my location anyway since from the look of things, I was not going to kill Alice...

Alice came back and handed me some recorder and head phones.

Alice: I want you to listen to that.

She said waiting on me patiently as I put on the head phones.

She saw the change in my facial expressions after I heard what had been recorded.

Alice: I didn't want to take any chances after my mother and her sister attempted to kill you.

Me: they admitted to that?

Alice: no. But i had them investigated and that recording came as a result of the investigation. Michael helped me with that.

I nodded as I sipped my tea trying to sink in everything that I had heard.

Me: Michael, is he a police officer?

Alice: no. But he knows alot of people. He was not happy with what had happened that day either and he strongly felt the two women were involved and when he decided to have them followed around, that recorder was put in my mother's kitchen by my house help when I asked her to drop some rice I had bought for my mother after I had talked to her about why she was going to hide that recorder.

Me: wow!

I was about to say something when someone knocked and we were busy hiding the headphones and recorder.

Alice went to open the door and it was leo. It's amazing how fast he had gotten to that place.

Leo: hey Alice... Is she here?

Alice: she who?

Leo: Benta.

He said making his way in already looking around and resting his eyes on me.

Leo: we have to go.

Me: Leo!

Leo: no I'm serious. The police are on their way.

Me: what?

I said quickly getting up and I was rather confused.

Leo: we need to leave now!

Alice: go....

She gave me her consent and without any explanation, Leo and I left..

I hurried behind him as he took long strides then he was by the car opening he door for me and I quickly got in.

Me: Leo what's going on?

Leo: Melvin called the cops on you. He told them you have a gun.

Me: what?... Melvin did what?

He did not respond to that but put on his seatbelt and drove off....

Elsewhere....

Magdalene was busy playing with Ethan when she heard a knock on the door. She carried Ethan with her to the door and when she opened, Jade walked in dropping the shopping she was carrying on the table and turning to look at Magdalene and the baby.

Jade: oh my son!.

She said taking him from Magdalene and carrying her to the seat. She planted a kiss on his forehead and made him stand on her laps. Ethan was eating his hands and attempting to smile at the same time. He was innocently adorable..

Jade: how is he?

Magdalene: he is doing okay. He was coming up with fever but I managed it.

Jade: does he feed well from the bottle?

Magdalene: yes..

She said seating next to them and playing with Ethan taking a hold of his other hand.

Magdalene: so what's the plan?

Jade: I'm waiting until Melvin gets better then we will leave the country.

Magdalene: with Ethan?

Jade: yes, with Ethan. He is my son remember?

Magdalene didn't say anything.

Jade: listen, don't worry about your money. I will sort you out.

Magdalene smiled.

Jade: I need you to take care of him a little more.

Magdalene: this is like my grandson and as long as the money is there, I don't mind at all.

Jade let Ethan sit on her then she reached for her purse and pulled out some huge amount of money and handed it over to her.

Jade: money is not the problem. Just do your job.

Magdalene was happy and couldn't stop showering her with praises.

Leo drove fast and only slowed down when we had to exit the estate as he needed to give them back their card for the parking or something like that.

Leo: Benta I know you love him but right now his heart is torn between you and Jade and you need to be careful. I know my brother and he is capable of telling you what you want to hear.

Me: mmh!

Leo: they are all worried, they don't know your next move and their only option is to get rid of you. They will do that by all means...

Leo was right. The recordings Alice had given me had all their plans in it. Maybe not all but I was shocked.

Lorna: I think we should use the person closest to her to eliminate her.

Magdalene: you mean like Melvin?

Lorna: no. Like my other son. Leo. I feel like they are connecting just fine and we can use him.

Magdalene: how?.... Do you know the weight of what you are saying. How do you think you will get Leo to go against Benta. It's obvious the kid loves her.

Lorna: we will use that love to get what we want. He doesn't have to know.

Me: Leo..

Leo: yes,

Me: where are you taking me?.

Leo: some place safe. Somewhere the police will not find you. Give me your gun Benta.

He asked holding out his hand to me and I looked at it hesitantly.

Leo: if we are stopped and the police find the gun on you, you will be locked up for good and you will never see Ethan again.

Those words right there made me pull out my gun and hand it to him. My gun? Yes, it was now mine. I had inherited it from Ndegwa who by the way, I still didn't know if was dead or alive..

I took the gun and gave it to him and he kept it away.

Me: do you know who has my son Leo?

He shook his head and the thing is he didn't know.

Me: stop the car..

Leo: no.

Me: well it's your choice, you either stop the car or I will jump.

I said already moving closer to the window and holding to the door.

Leo: s**t! What are you doing.

He had no choice but to stop the car but locked all the windows from his end.

Me: you think I care about the damn police?. I said no one was going to stand in the way of getting my child. I know who has him.

Leo: and why are you asking me if I knew where he is?

Me: maybe I wanted to know if you are working with your mum and her sister to take everything away from me.

Leo: what?

He turned to look at me and I stared right back.

Me: did they ask you to follow me around?

Leo: no. How can you even say that?

Me: because I'm tired of being lied to and I can't trust anyone around me anymore.

Leo: even me?

Me: why should I trust you?...you lied to me before.

I said pulling out the recording and playing it for him and I watched his eyes widened in shock.

Leo: wait, this is my mum and aunt Magdalene?..

I didn't answer that but handed him the recorder and waited until he was fully concentrated on it when I pushed his head to the window and knocked him out then picked the recorder and the gun from him.

Me: sorry Leo, not you or the police will stand in my way.

I opened the door to the car and closed the door then walked away and a few minutes into that walk I flagged down a motor bike and after the guy stopped, I told him where to drop me. I was going to Magdalene's place and after hearing whatever they were taking about in that recording, I was convinced that those witches conspired to do everything they did to me. First they tried to kill me and my baby and now they were still plotting stuff against me. I had a plan. A plan to finish them off one by one and none of them would remain standing. Not even Jade...

I got off the bike and paid the guy then made my way inside the gate to Magdalene's house. The house didn't have a gate man so it was easy to find myself in. In the compound I saw Jade's car parked right there and I think despite everything I afforded a smile on my face. Killing two birds with one stone, this was going to be easy..

Magdalene never locked the door when she was around so I took the gun in my hand not knowing what to really do with it. I pushed down the door handle and slowly walked in and there she was. That b*tch Jade was holding my baby with her filthy hands.

I walked all the way to living room and before she could even notice I was around and when she looked up from Ethan and saw me, she quickly held on to him tightly and got up..

Jade: wh...at... What are you doing here!

She shouted and immediately Magdalene heard that she rushed in from the kitchen where she was and when she saw me she was literally shocked.

Magdalene: Benta!

I smiled then pointed my gun at her...

Me: move closer to her.

She obeyed my commands not knowing what else to do. That's how much the gun scared her, both of them.

Me: you...put my baby on that seat and move away from him.

Jade: this is not your baby for crying out loud...Ethan is my son.

Me: what shows he is?

She didn't answer that, of cause she had nothing to show that my baby was hers. She was just running her mouth saying how they made me carry their child against my wish. Did she even know that was a crime?

Me: I said put my son on that seat and move away from him.

She still hesitated and I had to show her how serious I was so I shot the ceiling and the gun was loud enough that it did not only scare them but Ethan too. He started crying. He was so scared.

Jade put him on the seat like I had asked then moved away. This gun thing was indeed a good idea. It gave me so much power.

Jade: you will not get away with this.

I laughed.

Me: oh yeah I will...

I walked up to her, knocked her out with the gun, wiped the gun off my finger prints with her blouse then put the gun in her hand and Magdalene was literally shaking.

Me: I want to kill you but before I do that, tell me something.

She held her mouth and shook her head in fear.

Me: whose idea was it to poison me and my unborn baby?

She couldn't talk. All she was doing was shaking her head with tears rolling down her eyes. Ethan was still crying but that was okay. I was going to take him home with me but first...

Me: can't you talk?

She still was silent.

Me: see, you don't have to say anything. I have this and I know everything.

I played the recording to her and you won't believe how much she had to tell me on how sorry she was... Yeah, I was done being nice..

I held Jade's hand and pointed the gun at her and shot her twice in the chest and she dropped on the floor...

I then took one of the phones from the seat, I didn't know whose it was but I used it to call the police telling them someone had been shot and I gave them the address then wiped the phone of my fingerprints, picked my baby and walked out of the house with a smile on my face.... This was just the beginning....
