BROKEN EPISODE TWENTY ONE

Matthew and I had to rush or else we would loose Leo who was totally unaware that he was a target. Leo had saved my life before even if I didn't want him to so this was my turn do it for him in return.

I found Matthew easy to work with, I don't know if he was that easily swayed but that was not my business as long as he was on my side. Matthew didn't seem to like the family much either and I think that's why we clicked..

Me: how much time do we have?

Mathew: about twenty minutes, Leo already has the clients in his car and they are headed to the hotel. I know a short cut.

Me: how do you know all these things?

Mathew: I worked in some company as an IT guy. My work was good but they paid me peanuts so another company offered to steal me from my company and when my boss found out I was striking a deal with the new company, he made sure I never got the job.... Long story short, I started working solo, hacked into their system, stole bank details and wired 5million from the company into my account and that's how the company collapse.

Me: wow, that was...

Matthew: Savage... I know.. but I have no regrets, I paid the guy in his own coins. I had made so much money for the company and the best he could have done was let me go.

I shrugged my shoulders and looked out the window. Don't get me wrong but I think what Matthew did was brilliant.

Mathew: five minutes left... Shit...traffic is building up.

Me: we have to get there before Leo does.

Mathew: I know...

He said taking a turn and going the opposite direction just like an ambulance normally does, we were going to save a life right?

Mathew stole a glance at me shortly then focused back on the road driving as crazy as he was..

Mathew: can I ask you something?

Me: yes.

Mathew: why does your husband want you dead, what had you done to spite such hate?

I was silent for a micro silent then turned and looked at him holding to my head and running my fingers through my hair.

Me: he is not my husband. He never was.

Mathew: but we attended a wedding.

Me: a fake wedding.

I gave him a look he couldn't interpret so well but he knew I was not comfortable talking of how my stupid heart chose to fall in love..

We got to the hotel and Matthew let me get off before he could park. I didn't want Leo seeing me because I didn't want him to spoil the surprise we had for scar..

From my phone, scar was on a roof top and I had to go looking for him as Mathew had given me his gun and told me how to deal with it. Why was Mathew even having a gun in the first place?.

Mathew's gun had a silencer that he had fixed to the gun so that it would not cause distraction or alert anyone that we were there, not even leo.

Mathew: be careful Benta.

He told me before I left and I felt like those movie stars on a mission. Okay, that's not even funny but finding scar was going to help me figure out alot of things like who sent him to kill Leo and where Lorna was though for Lorna it wouldn't be so difficult because everyone on Melvin's phone, we could locate if we wanted to.

I used the lift to get to the last floor up then I had to take the stairs but had to be very discreet about it. Scar already had his riffle in position and was just waiting to fire the shot so I tiptoed to him and put my gun to his head..

Me: get up!

He slowly did and put his hands in the air and turned around and when he saw me he laughed and dropped his hands.

Scar: you... So who do you think you are coming at with a gun, your little boy?

Me: shut up scar... Oh or you thought I didn't know who you are?

He tried coming at me but I moved back.

Me: don't even think I will not send you flying down there.

Scar: what do you want?

Me: I want to know two things... One, who sent you to kill Leo, he is the one you are aiming at right?...

Scar: what makes you think I will give you that information?

Me: do you know how I found you?... Through Melvin's phone and I'm aware of the conversations you had. Where did they take my son?

Scar: I'm only loyal to Melvin and I cannot tell you where he is...

That response got me mad and I shot his arm and when he pulled a gun from his waist I shot his hand then shot him several times and he dropped the gun. I dragged him towards the edge of the roof then gave him a push from the roof top all the way down then I picked his gun leaving the snipper riffle up there and got in the lift before anyone could make their way up there and I got off on the fourth floor then walked the remaining steps down.

I didn't meet anyone on the stairs since there was no one using the stairs anyway.

When I got down, I exited the restaurant and there was a crowd already so I rushed to the parking, got inside Matthews car and we drove off at a normal speed so that we don't get suspected..

Mathew looked at me like he was itching to say something but he didn't so I had to get it out of him before it killed him.

Me: what is that look?

Mathew: I didn't know you are that strong. Did you throw him down?

Me: I gave him a little push, as for my strength, my son is involved. I have to be. Can I ask you something?

Matthew: yes

Me: why do you have a gun?

Mathew: for protection of me and my family..why?

Me: I'm just asking. Do you think leo knows we were there?

Mathew: no. I don't think he saw us. Where are we going next?

Me: scar didn't tell me anything on Melvin's whereabouts but I need a plan to get them back here.

We were almost home so Mathew stopped the car at a distance because he didn't want to get in or Leo to find out we went on a mission together.

Mathew: I will help you achieve everything you want to achieve. Leo and I have a friend in common, his name is Larry. We can put him on the search to knowing their whereabouts then we can start from there.

Me: can we leave Leo out of it. If I know I can trust you then I don't want Leo involved in the blood shed of his family.

Mathew: I respect that. I will set up a meeting with Larry.

Me: you know, I once had a brother called Larry but he used the name Kobi mostly. He ran away from home and I've not seen him in a long while.

Mathew: the Larry I know, I only know Leo saved him from being rained on and it's a good thing I'm setting up that meeting. You two can meet and get to know each other. Maybe he is your brother... But why did he run away from home?

Me: my mother and father got in an accident and they died. We were then taken in by relatives and Larry couldn't stand the harsh treatment so he ran away and I found myself in a children's home.

Mathew: now I get why Lorna keep calling you names. That woman is something else. I don't think where one is born and raised up matters. It's how you handle yourself through out the process of being shaped into greatness. If you want to succeed you do.

I smiled, I found Mathew good company and I'm not sure what kept holding me back from talking to him but atleast now we had crossed that bridge.

Mathew: when you need to go anywhere, call me. When I'm available, I will take you.

Me: thanks Mathew, I appreciate.

I give him back his gun and I walk inside the gate then he drove off. Killing scar was an achievement and even though I didn't get any information on Melvin from him, I got his gun and I saved Leo's life.

After Leo and I made out, things just seemed so better and I kept wondering why I didn't meet him first. Leo came by the office once in a while and he would joke saying if I were not his brother's girl, he would have snatched me from him a long time ago. I thought he wasn't serious but he was.

Lorna got back home from wherever she had been and Ndegwa was still chained to the bed as usual. Lorna had no help because she feared is she brought someone to help around, she would easily get convinced by Ndegwa then she would free him.

Lorna walks into ndegwa's room then a smell hit her and she covered her nose and looked at Ndegwa disgustingly.

Lorna: oh God! Did you just s**t on yourself and why is your stomach that rotten?

She was exaggerating. Ndegwa had let out some gas just to annoy Lorna and yes she was.

Lorna: I was out today trying to get buyers for your properties and surprisingly enough, you have a house in Benta's name, Larry's name and your own son you left with nothing?

Ndegwa lay there looking at her as if he didn't understand her.

Lorna: you thought I wouldn't know, I was with your lawyer today and he said the will can only be effective when you die and that has got me thinking.

She paced about in the room and walked up to him. He looked away but she grabbed his jaws and turned his face to her..

Lorna: if I would sacrifice my own son, I mean agree for him to die for everyone's peace of mind, who do you think you are huh?

She asked squeezing his jaw.

Lorna: how about I reunite you with your lover Victoria, isn't she the reason you didn't want anything to do with me or your son?

She let go of his mouth when he attempted to talk.

Ndegwa: I didn't neglect my son. I stayed away from the company after I made him the C.E.O and it was in my interest that he didn't know that was my company, I never told him he was my son because of your threats and I needed my peace of mind. I stayed close, I even ran errands for him, advised him on matters and Melvin was good until you became so wicked and became a bad influence on him. Your husband couldn't even be a father to his and your son... You see the houses you burnt down, that was supposed to be Melvin's house alongside other properties plus the company but I changed my will when I realized who all of you are. The company is now under Benta's name, I'm telling you this because you will kill me anyway. That woman didn't deserve everything you put her through.

Lorna: she deserved that and more, she tore my family apart, she killed my sister and now my sons are fighting because of her. I will deal with her after I have dealt with you...

Oh and you know something I have never told you?

Ndegwa's face lit up,...what other surprises could be there?

She leaned in to his ears and whispered "I killed Victoria too"

Then turned to look at his face. He was shocked....

Lorna: I cut the brakes to her car and boom! She was gone away from your life and mine too.

Ndegwa: you are so wicked..

He said grabbing her head with one hand and hit it hard on the bed then watched her drop down unconscious.

He tried to get out of bed stretched his hand to get the phone that was ringing but it was hard since the pockets were abit far..

Ndegwa: come on man, it's now or never. He stretched hard enough and grabbed Lorna's leg and pulled her towards him. Then reached for the pocket and got the phone and he put it on the bed then searched her pockets for the keys to the chain but it was not there.

Ndegwa scrolled through the phone and found Benta's number and called it but it was not going through..

Ndegwa: damn!

He sat there thinking. He didn't have much time and what was he going to do.

He knew he couldn't call Melvin after everything that happened between him and Benta so there was no way they could be together. He called leo but the line was busy then he thought long and hard. Alice was way close to Benta, he had seen them laugh and talk several times. He looked for Alice's number and when the phone rang, she was taking a shower but Mathew saw Lorna calling and he was interested to know why she would be calling Alice. Alice and Mathew had no secret so he could receive her calls and there wouldn't be an issue.

Mathew: hello,

Ndegwa: I'm looking for Alice, is she there?

Mathew: she is taking a shower. Who is this and can I take a message?

Ndegwa: I'm Ndegwa, I want her give a message to Benta. I can't reach her on her phone. Tell her to come get me on this address.

Mathew: okay, I will make sure she gets the message to Benta.

Ndegwa: thank you very much.

Mathew: no worries..

Mathew checked to see if Alice was out of the shower but she wasn't so he deleted the call from the call log immediately, put back the phone where it was and got his phone and called Benta through Melvin's phone..

Mathew: hey,

Me: hey

Mathew: I know I dropped you off like an hour ago but we need to meet up.

Me: why?

Mathew: Ndegwa called. He wants you to get him out of someplace. I think Lorna kidnapped him because he used Lorna's phone to call.

Me: that witch.. fine, where are we meeting?

Mathew: at the junction in twenty. Is Leo back yet?

Me: not yet... I will be there. Do I carry my gun?

Mathew: you have a gun?

Me: yeah, I inherited it from scar after I shot him.

Mathew: right, yes...carry your gun.

I rushed upstairs, got my gun and jacket then hurriedly went to the kitchen, turned off the cooker then hurried to the door and just as I got out, Leo had just gotten off a cab and we came face to face.. damn!

Leo walked towards the house and stoped right where I was and I had to pretend like I was not going somewhere.

Me: hey.....

Leo: going somewhere?

Me: me... nope. I was just stepping out for fresh air. I have been cooking and you know the heat.

Leo: you look dressed up. Where are you going Benta?

Me: okay now that you are insisting to know, I'm going to see Betty. She has not been feeling well and I have been too busy for her. She is the only mother I know, you know?

Leo: then just tell me that instead of acting like a suspect.

He walked in and the mood. Yeah I knew what that mood was, the failure to make a deal with the clients because of our mission. I followed him back inside and caught up with him before he got upstairs.

Me: are you okay?

Leo: no.

Me: what's up?

I said walking up to him and holding on to his shoulder.

Leo: I failed today and I'm not really in the mood to talk about it right now. The clients thought I was a con and wanted them dead after there was a shootout at the restaurant.

Me: a shoot out?

Leo: yeah. First there was a man who fell from the roof top and a sniper rifle was found up there. I'm not sure who he was aiming at or who shot him and pushed him down but someone else showed up inside the hotel and shot at us and one of the clients got injured. I think the guy wanted me dead.

That was twisted. Was there someone else at the restaurant?

Leo: go see Betty, we will talk when you get back.

Me: okay.

I watched him go upstairs then he disappeared..

I ran down to the junction after Mathew called to ask where I was and when I got there, I jumped into his car and he drove off. I told him what Leo had told me and he had to check who else was there and to his surprise, it was Larry. His phone showed that he was at that scene when the shoot out happened.

Me: we are talking about Larry, you and Leo's friend Larry.

Mathew: yeah..

Me: why would Larry who is Leo's friend want him dead?

Mathew: I'm equally shocked Benta. I don't know lest we find out.

Me: that's the same Larry you want me to meet?

Mathew: to find out if he is your brother.

Me: my brother would not kill anyone.

Mathew: that's what you think. You have been apart for years, I don't think he is the same boy who left home years ago.

Mathew was right, maybe that wasn't even my brother in the first place, why was I even panicking.

Mathew said we were almost there and now we were checking the gate numbers to find the right one.

Me: there... That's the house.

Mathew didn't park exactly at the gate but like a metre away then we quickly got out, rushed to the house and both of us pulled our guns then made our way into the house very quietly. The door had not been locked so we easily got access..

Mathew and I checked around but there was no one then we heard Lorna's voice upstairs shouting and asking Ndegwa who he had called then we rushed up there and stormed in catching her by surprise.

Lorna: Benta..

Me: hello Lorna...

Lorna: you son of a...

Me: shut up before you loose your teeth. Untie him!

Mathew went to find a way to get rid of the chain but it was locked with a padlock.

Mathew: where is the key?

Lorna rolled her eyes and I served her a hot slap that the eyes got back to their normal position automatically.

Mathew: never mind..

He shot at the chain and it detarched from the bed..

Lorna: I have always underestimated you.

Me: yes you have. Between us, did you try to blow leo and I up in ndegwa's house?.

Lorna: between you and me, that was your husband Melvin.

Me: where is he?

Lorna: I don't know..

Just then we heard someone call from downstairs and Lorna told him she was up without warning him of our presence and when he walked in, Mathew pointed his gun at him and when I saw his face, I remembered him instantly. He was the same guy who watched me being r***d and did nothing about it.

Me: you?..

Lorna: Larry...what brings you?

Larry: I failed on our mission.

Me: the mission of killing Leo?

Mathew: you were out to kill Leo, we are friends man, that guy saved your ass from the streets.

Lorna laughed and I pressed the gun to her head.

Me: what is funny?

She didn't respond to that so I pushed her to Mathew who crossed his arm on her neck and pressed her to his chest with his gun still on Larry and I I had my gun pointed at Larry too.

Me: you sat there and watched them r**e me and you did nothing about it.

Larry: what was I supposed to do, I'm not your father...

Ndegwa: yes, but she is your sister. It's your responsibility to protect her.

Larry/ me: what?

Lorna burst out in a laughter and I turned back to her.

Me: you knew this all along?

She shrugged her shoulder and I needed an answer so I walked up to her, grabbed her and put a gun to her head yet again..

Me: what is really wrong with you?

Lorna: you want to kill me... Do it, what have I to loose. You have found out the truth anyway, I don't care. You are still a looser.

Larry: you knew she was my sister all along and you made me do all those things to her?

He said coming at Lorna and I shifted my gun to him.

Me: step back!

He raised his hands in the air.

Larry: Benta...Benta please, I didn't know..

I ignored him. I was still too hurt to talk to him.

Me: what type of a mother are you, you set up your son to be killed?.

Lorna: my son, no. My son is enjoying himself with his legally married wife. Leo.. Leo is not my son. He never was..

Leo: what was that mother?

He stormed in with a gun in his hand, the look on my face, how did he even get here?

Leo: I saw the look on your face and how nervous you were when you saw me, I knew you lied about going to see Betty and so I followed you two here, I have been listening to everything. Matt I thought you were my friend.

Mathew: I am your friend, the snake here is him and her ( referring to Lorna and Larry)

Me: can we stop taking about snakes?

Leo: who is my mother if you are not?

Lorna: Leo

Leo: Don't... Leo..me.. who is my mother?

He asked this time c*****g his gun and raising his gun to her face.... Speak!
