“Get away from me!” I shrieked when Humphrey closed the distance between us.
“Listen to me, please…” he begged but I just looked away, avoiding his gray eyes.
“I don’t even know you,” I muttered using my icy tone. “Alistair Ross? What other names do you use to fool others?” I asked him with hatred.
“Humphrey Alistair Ross Lexington is my full name. I didn’t lie to you about my name,” he answered painfully.
I scoffed and gave him a grin. “Everything about you is a lie.”
“I was sincere when I told you I would marry you. I was even ready to abandon the kind of life I had just to be with you,” his voice cracked but he remained composed and calm.
“And what kind of life was that?” I’m scared to know the truth. I wanted to turn a blind eye but I couldn't.
“You wouldn’t want to know anything about it.” He avoided my gaze and swallowed hard.
“Tell me or you won’t see me ever again,” I threatened him. “Tell me what are you,” I reiterated.
“I’m a hitman.”
I knew it. He is not an ordinary man.
I closed my eyes and the tears I’d been holding back fell non-stop.
“I’ve been spending my whole life killing elites,” he added.
How did everything come to this?
Would things unfold differently if we hadn't met each other a year ago?
