KLAUS"S POV:
From the moment I saw Willow in the council chamber I knew she was my mate, I knew I loved her from the moment I set my eyes on her. The way she carried herself, her head held high, shoulder squared and an air of dominance I have never before seen in a female wolf. She was unique and different from the others I met and I absolutely loved that.
All other wolves I met would throw themselves at me, flirt and touch all over me expecting me to bring them home with me. I don't know how many times I've had to push all kinds of shifters away from me telling them I would not be with anyone who is not my mate. I believed that you waited for your mate, honored them by saving yourself for them and them alone.
And sitting here now, seeing the bright smile that was spread across my mate's face as she played with the pups made my heart soar. She was so good with the pups. Dancing in odd circles, jumping up and down like a ping pong ball and swinging them around like a merry go round. It was hard keeping the party a secret from her. Keeping my excited energy on a tight leash was more exerting than I believed it would be.
"Klaus, come on." Willow yelled as she hauled one of the pups onto her shoulders. I smiled widely as I walked over to her and kissed her cheek. "Yes my love?" I asked. She beamed up at me. "This is Beth, she would like to dance with you. And seeing as how you're so tall, I put her on my shoulders to help the height difference." I laughed as I turned my attention from Willow to Beth. "So you want to dance with me do you little one?" I asked with a chuckle. "Yes, Alpha Klaus." She squealed. I grabbed the girl from Willows shoulders and held her firmly in my arms and twirled her in circles. The girls screams hurt my ears but I didn't stop, loving the sound of children's laughter.
After a few songs had passed I placed the girl on her feet and smiled. "Thank you Alpha." The girl breathed as she hugged my leg. I patted the girl on her head and nudged her towards her mother who was waiting with a genuinely happy smile. She mouthed a thank you in which I responded with a nod.
WILLOW'S POV:
I couldn't help the laughter that bubbled up from me as I watched Klaus's massive frame twirling around the dance floor like a ballerina. But the pup was enjoying herself so much that Klaus kept dancing with her until her mother came along. It was getting late and people had started to leave saying the pups needed to get to bed. This had to be the best birthday I have ever had. Everyone was happy. Smiles and laughter could be heard from all over the yard as the pack mingled and spent time with each other. Yes they could do that regardless of the party, but all of us together in one large group hasn't happened for many years.
"Having a good birthday love?" Klaus asked sitting next to me. I smiled "Yes. very much so. Thank you Klaus." I said leaning into him. Before Klaus could respond my entire being stiffened. Something was wrong. I shot of from my seat in a flash, scanning my surroundings. Nothing seemed out of place everyone seemed content and at ease, but I couldn't shake the feeling I was having. "Klaus something is wrong." I said lowly, never stopping my scan. "What do you mean?" He asked taking position at my side. I shook my head "I don't know, something doesn't feel right."
I closed my eyes, blocking out the loud music, the laughter, the talking and focused on anything and everything else. Animal's were scurrying around the forest, owls hooted from their perch in the trees. I could hear the deer grazing in the meadow not far from here. That's when I heard it and felt it as the ground rumbled beneath my feet. No one else would feel it, but my connection to the earth helped me zero in on what was happening.
"INTRUDERS!" I screamed as I took off towards where the sound was coming from. I didn't shift, I needed to see what was going on before I took such measures. I heard heavy foot falls behind me, telling me that the warriors had followed me, including the dragons. I let my face shift and let out a earth shattering howl, warning whoever was on my land to stop.
I broke through the canopy of trees into a field and saw what seemed to be an army of wolves and wild cats of all kinds. Them being the army I was promised didn't even cross my mind, the only thing I was thinking about was protect the pack, don't let them through. In the blink of an eye Jade came forward and I shifted into my wolf.
Crouching low to the ground I growled a warning to them. They all back away from me, some of them taking a defensive position against us, which Jade did not like. She didn't like to be challenged. A loud snarl left her muzzle as saliva dripped from her fangs. Klaus's large hand landed on my side, running his hands through my fur trying to calm me. "Who are you and what do you want? You're trespassing." His voice boomed.
Looking around me I noticed I was flanked my wolves in both human and wolf form. The dragons stood rigid beside Klaus and myself, readying themself for any possible outcome. When a man walked to the front of the pack of animals, Jade snarled again. He held his hand up defensively, trying to let us all know he meant us no harm. Jade closed her jaws and stood tall as she glared at the man in front of us. "We were all sent by our perspective packs and clans to assist the alpha female in her battle to regain her position."
I looked to Klaus, who gave me a small nod. Jade seemed passified by his answer, retreating to the back of my mind as I shifted to my human. "A notice was supposed to be sent ahead of your arrival. We have these measures in place for a reason, to avoid out comes such as this." My voice was flat and filled with annoyance. "My apologizes young Alpha." He said bowing his head. "We did not mean to cause alarm. Some of our warriors were growing impatient to join the battle, hoping that we could begin the invasion of the pack early."
"Very well. You will be shown to your rooms and we will have a meeting tomorrow to discuss battle plans." With that I turned and walked away not waiting for a response. I mean what was I supposed to do? They came into my territory unannounced and caused alarm, caused me to go into protection mode. I did not like being taken for a fool and I did not like being taken by surprise. Yes I realize the irony since we just left my surprise birthday party, but this was completely different. These people made me and the others believe the pack was in danger, no way could I just calm down after that.
I shook my head, aggravated and annoyed by the evenings turn of events. "Willow calm down. It was a misunderstanding." Jade pleaded. "I know. I'm sorry, and I'm trying. But they barged in here, ruining the party. And I'm not even upset for myself, I'm upset for the pack. They were enjoying finally being able to come together as a pack after so many years." Jade sighed. "I know Willow, I understand. But either way I need to tell you something."
I stopped, hand on the pack house door. "What is it Jade?" I asked. She breathed heavily. "Now that you've found your mate, your powers will awaken. I can not tell you when or what they are, just that they have awoken and you need to be prepared for whenever they decided to make themself known. Also, once your first power is made known, you will unlock the bond of the guardians." I scrunched my brows together in confusion. Guardians? Warrior bond? "Jade what are you talking about?" I demanded.
Jade shook her head exasperated. "The powers are self explanatory Willow. But the guardians I'll explain. Once your first power had awoken you will unlock the bond of the four chosen guardians who was hand picked by the moon goddess to protect and defend you with their lives. There will be one of different species. One will be a vampire, one a warlock, one a fae and the last a werewolf. Then there is your mate is a dragon. The five most powerful species come together to protect the one who is meant to rule over them all."
"Wait, what?" I screeched. "How am I suppose to rule over all the supernaturals?" This just didn't make sense. I was an Alpha, meant to take back and rule my pack, fix things that have broken there. I'm not some royal who ruled over everyone, that just wasn't my style. "You are but the first to bring the supernatural world together, and together you must fight a great evil that threatens all life. This evil will consume the land, killing anything within its path. Only you can stop it. Heed my warning Willow, a deadly war is coming and taking back your birthright is just the beginning.
