An incessant banging woke me from my deep sleep causing me to groan in annoyance and anger. "Who is it?" I growled, rolling off the bed and to my feet. I flung the door open snarling at whoever woke me. Adam, the packs gamma stumbled backward in fear, almost falling to the ground before I caught him by his wrist and steadied him. "I'm sorry, Adam." I said sincerely. His body relaxed a fraction as he brushed himself off. "My apologies Willow. Alpha Gabriel sent me to make sure you were ready to leave this evening."
I looked over to my clock and cursed under my breath. It was already 11 am, way passed the 5 am I normally woke. I really must have been exhausted if I had slept so late. I looked back to Adam "Inform him I am ready. My bag is packed and at my door. Tell him I will meet him downstairs for lunch." Adam nodded and walked off without another word.
I closed the door and leaned against it pinching the bridge of my nose. This should not be happening, I should not be going in front of a council made up of elder shifters of all kinds. Resigning myself to my fate I quickly showered and dressed before making my way downstairs back pack in tow. As I reached the dining room I found that everyone was waiting on me. Gabriel as always looked stoic and powerful. Landon, he looked like he was about to s**t himself in fear. And Bella was glaring at me like I was her mortal enemy. This angered me, I growled sending a fraction of my alpha power to her, forcing her to whimper and submit to me. No way was I going to allow a wolf lower in rank to so blatantly disrespect me.
"Willow, that's enough." Gabriel said sternly. I looked over to him, releasing my hold over Bella and smiled. "Good morning Gabriel." I chirped happily as I sauntered my way to my seat. Gabriel shook his head at me but I could see the amusement dancing in his eyes. Now, I know what you're thinking. Why would an alpha allow someone to treat his luna and mate the way I do. To put in simple terms, he was beyond angry at her for how Landon turned out, and to be honest, he couldn't stop me, not that he'd try. He was immensely proud of the woman I had grown up to be. Pride filled him and it was easy to see whenever I was praised or when someone bowed in submission and respect to me.
"So." Gabriel said, breaking the silence. "Are you two ready for our trip?" He asked nonchalantly. I beamed at him "Of course I am. All packed and looking forward to what this meeting can bring." It wasn't a total lie, I was ready, and I was excited about learning about all these other shifters, but I was also nervous beyond belief, not that I'd admit to it. "No." Bella said suddenly. "You will not be taking my son there. I won't allow it."
I had to cover my mouth with my hand to stifle my laugh as Gabriel's eyes turned black. s**t, she's done it now. I quickly got up from my seat and went to stand across the room leaning against the wall. I've seen when he gets like this, and it is not easy to calm him down. Truth be told, lately I am the only one able to calm him and his wolf. "What did you say?" He demanded in a deadly tone. "I..I...s...said...n..no." Bella stuttered. I shook my head in amusement as I watched the events unfold. Landon, surprised me by stepping in front of his trembling mother to shield her from Gabriel, even though he was all but vibrating with terror. "And what do you plan to do boy?" Gabriel's voice was ice cold as he addressed Landon.
Landon opened and closed his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but he only ended up looking like a fish out of water. Getting tired of the uneventful and embarrassing events I walked up to Gabriel and place my hand on his shoulder. "Ok, Gabriel. I think you've scared them enough." I said soothingly. Gabriel turned to me and snarled a warning, but I stood my ground, shoulders squared. "Gabriel!" I bellowed. Knocking him out of whatever stupor he had been in. His eyes widened as his actions caught up to him. "Willow, I'm sorry." He said. Turning to Bella and Landon he glared. "As for you two. Neither of you have the power or the ability to stop me. Bella, he is going rather you like it or not. Landon, I suggest whatever fear has you frozen to your spot, you suck it up. The elder council will not be pleased to see an alpha heir trembling at their feet."
I stifled another laugh as the two stared shocked after Gabriel as he stalked down the hall fuming and muttering something about incompetence under his breath. "This is your fault." Bella screamed at me. "If you had never come here we would all be happy and moving on with our lives, but no, the golden girl had to make an appearance. Now, Gabriel thinks our son is weak. She fumed. I scoffed. "No, he knew before I came into the picture. An alpha, even as a child should not have been the blubbering mess he was when I came here. An alpha heir, even as a child is strong, proud and overwhelmingly protective of his family and territory. So why don't you tell me something. Who's son is that? Because it is becoming more and more apparent that he is not the son of alpha Gabriel." I bit out harshly.
Bella's eyes widened in shock. "No, there is no way you could have known." She whispered, but of course I heard. Being a werewolf all my senses where heightened, but being an alpha they were even more amplified. "You can answer me willingly or I can force you, either way is fine with me." I mused.
"I..I.." Her stuttering was becoming insufferable. "Stop your stuttering and spit it out woman." I said in annoyance. With defeat in her eyes she sighed. "Landon is Adam's son." She told me utterly and completely broken. All light had drained from her eyes as he shoulders slumped and head bowed in shame. Good she should be ashamed of herself. Cheating on her mate, making him believe that her son was his when in reality he wasn't.
Jade was not happy with this turn of events. She surged to the surface, grabbing Bella by her arm and all but dragged her to Gabriel's office. Her wailing and sobbing, begging me not to do this fell on deaf ears. We were pissed. How could she do this?
When we reached his office, I opened the door without an invitation and threw her trembling form to the floor. Gabriel was at her side in seconds, trying to soothe his sobbing mate. "What is the meaning of this?" Gabriel asked me, anger flashing in his eyes. I squared my shoulders and looked him dead in the eye. "This is me protecting the only father I have known the last ten years. This is me finally getting the truth about Landon to you so you can stop beating yourself up about you failing as a father. Tell him the truth Bella." I snapped at her.
Bella shuffled back burring her face in Gabriel's chest. "Now!" I commanded, leaving no room for argument. Bella sobbed uncontrollably as she told Gabriel everything. Hurt creased his features as her words sank in and as reality crashed into him. He dropped her, backing away as if she were some kind of pariah. "Guards." Gabriel shouted. Within seconds they burst through the door bowing their heads. "Take the luna to a empty room, do not let her leave under any circumstances and do not let anyone in, especially Landon." He commanded them harshly.
I was shocked, I stared at him wide eyed and mouth agape. Yes, Gabriel was a ruthless alpha, but never in my ten years here had I ever heard him speak to his pack like this. The guards were shocked as well as they looked to me for answers. I just nodded my head, giving them all the incentive they needed to drag the luna away kicking and screaming. I knew her cries hurt Gabriel, and I couldn't help that my heart broke for him.
"I'm sorry." I whispered as I engulfed him in my arms. He had always been a pillar of strength for me, an anchor. He never turned away from me, never once shunned me and I was forever greatful for that.
"Thank you Willow, for showing me the true nature of my mate." He said brokenly as he wrapped his arms around me hugging me tightly. "I'm sorry it had to be this way Gabriel." I said gently. "But what do we do now about the meeting?" I asked pulling away. "Now, we must go and inform the elder council that Landon is not my son and let Bella take the repercussions of her actions."
I nodded but said nothing. I knew no words could help here, no amount of worry, or soothing words could heal what had just broken this mans heart. So without a second glance back, Gabriel, Landon and I got in the car and drove off heading to an unknown council chamber few knew about, and few ever would.
