THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US

CHAPTER FIVE

An excited Ann rushed out of the bridal design store after her unexpected employment, she couldn't wait to tell Troy about everything that had happened today. She double checked the location Sopie had sent her once again to make sure she got the address. She called an uber to get to the bar.

Ann got into the uber as she immediately pulled out her phone to facetime Troy and tell him about how her day had been.

"Hey babe, I was just about to call you. I miss you so much" Troy said immediately the video came on.

"I got a job" Ann said excitedly

"Job"? Troy questioned confused

"Yeah, at a designing shop. They design bridal dresses and all" she explained enthusiastically.

"I didn't know you wanted a job" Troy said still confused.

"Yeah, I didn't know I wanted one either until today" Ann said with a smile.

She was excited to start and couldn't wait.

"How was your day at work today" Ann asked as she realized she had been talking about herself since the face time started.

"It was okay, my boss gave us a project to start on and anyone who makes the best presentation of it will get a promotion" Troy explained

"ohh, that's nice, I trust you're going to get the promotion"Ann said assuring him

Ann got down from the cab after she got to her location.

"I am having drinks with my roommate Sophie and her friends" Ann explained as she walked in the direction of the bar.

"Take care of yourself then but don't have too much fun without me" Troy joked and they both laughed then ended the call.

Ann got in the bar as she scanned around for Sophie, she really didn't like looking lost in a place or confused. She finally saw Sophie after some time.

"Hey dear, I am glad you could come" Sophie said as she pulled Ann along with her in the direction of the rest of her friends.

"So, everyone this is Ann, my roommate, this is her first time in New york too" she said and they all chorused "Nice to meet you" and Ann then gave a polite smile.

"This is Cindy, Jamal And Andy Sophie introduced. "There is just one person who isn't here yet" She added

"Nice to meet you all" Ann said smiling

"Sit here, let me get you a drink" Sophie offered as she showed Ann to a seat next to where they all were sitted but Ann was sitting alone.

Ann just looked around at the games Sophie's friends were playing and how not so loud the bar was. It was the kind of bar she loved to go to. It was serene, people taking their shots with friends, some people with lovers, while a country singer was on the stage singing one of the most beautiful country songs she had heard in forever. She loved it. While she was still lost in her thought, she hadn't realized the fine young man that had sat next to her until he spoke. He seemed like he was of her age group.

"Hey pretty" he said and Ann turned to the side to look at him wondering who he was and probably just assumed he was one of those guys that just came up to random girls to ask for there numbers or just want to have s*x with them.

"Do you have a name or can I call you mine" he said and Ann just smiled. That was the cheesiest thing she had heard all day.

"That's pretty cheesy" Ann said

"Do you perhaps have a map" he asked and Ann just looked at him curious.

"No, I don't" she answered

"I need it because I just keep getting lost in your eyes" he said and Ann couldn't believe her ears, she had thought he was serious. She just laughed. He was pretty cute but she had a boyfriend.

"I see you have met my Cousin, hope he isn't all in your face with his cheesy pick up lines again" Sophie said as she handed me a shot.

"He is though" I said laughing

"She has a boyfriend, she doesn't have time for players" Sophie said as she dragged him to stand from where he was sitting next to Ann

"I am just being friendly" He said smiling at me

"Your new friend is cute too" he said

"This is Mike by the way, Mike meet Ann, my new roommate" Sohie introduced

"Nice meeting you beautiful" Mike said smiling at Ann.

Ann suggested they played a game of truth and dare, it was all interesting until someone had dared Ann to kiss Mike. She couldn't and wouldn't disrespect Troy like that.

Mike had tried to come forward and was even moving closer to get the kiss when Ann opted for a drink instead. She couldn't. It was awkward between her and Mike through out the game later on. He shouldn't expect her to do such especially since she had a boyfriend but in a way she didn't like the fact that she turned him down. But she was glad it was going to be the last time they see so it wouldn't have to be so awkward between them after tonight.

The rest of the night went better than Ann had expected, they played other games and did some other things too and Ann made sure she was sober and didn't drink too much especially since Sophie wasn't trying to be sober at all, she took every shot that was around her and at least one person had to be the responsible one and watch over the other. They would've be able to make it home both drunk. She hated it when she got drank too, she had bad experiences about it before and wouldn't want such to happen again. She and Sophie went back home when it was almost Midnight and she had to care for Sophie who had drank so much. Ann spent the rest of the night before sleeping thinking about how her new job was going to be and how she couldn't wait for it.
