THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US

CHAPTER SIX

Ann woke up pretty late the next morning, even though she had been quite sober the day before, she still felt she spent too much time out late last night had hadn't been able to have enough sleep. She struggled to get out of bed as her alarm clock sounded for the second time. She looked to the side to see that Sophie was still fast sleep. She sat up on the bed as she picked her phone from her side then she realized she had three missed face time calls which where from Troy then she suddenly remembered she had over slept and had missed there morning run.

She texted him telling him she was going to call him and when she could if he was free at work. She got up from her bed, got into the bathroom to have a shower and then put on her clothes quickly in order to not be late for her first day at work. She was excited to start working there and was looking forward to how amazing it was going to be.

Ann got to the shop few minutes after she left home

"Hello dear" The middle aged woman who had employed Ann yesterday immediately approached her as she got into the shop.

"Good morning rose, I am sorry I am late" She apologised

"No worries dear, so let me get you started, we have some brides coming in for fittings today too and I will like you to meet the guy over there to help you get started and show you around and tell you how to go about things" She explained, pointing to the guy who was kinda busy with what he had been doing.

"Thank you"

Ann walked over to where Rose had pointed to, the guy hadn't noticed when she got there, she say the beautiful design he was sketching on the paper in front of him and how nice it was.

"This is very beautiful" She complimented then he raised his head and Ann then realized it was Mike.

"Wow, we meet again" Mike said smiling

"I know right" Ann responded with a half smile

"Are you here for a fitting or something" Mike asked wondering what Ann was doing here.

"I work here now, I was offered a job here yesterday" she explained.

"Ohh, you were the one Rose told me about, let me show you around" Mike said standing from where he had been sitting.

They shop was a story building and so there was so much to see. Ann and Mike walked by each other has they took the stairs up. She didn't know if she was excited to meet him there or not but he seemed like a really cool guy who would make a very good friend.

"So, Sophie told me this is your first time in New york" He said as they walked up

"Yeah, I have always wanted to be here. I and my boyfriend were planning a trip here till I got a scholarship to study here at NYU" She explained

"That's nice, there is so much to actually see in New york and I will make sure you have the best time here." Mike said and Ann just smiled.

"That would be nice"

"this is the second time you're talking about a particular boyfriend, is he here or back in Ohio" Mike asked curiously

"He is in Ohio"

"So, it's long distance" Mike inquired

"Yeah, but we're making it work" Ann affirmed, she didn't want anyone's stereotype about long distance relationships to get to her. She was sure it was going to work

"So, this is where we keep all the fabrics for the bridal dresses" Mike said as they got up. It was filled with different fabrics and some already made bridal dresses and the site was really pleasing.

Ann and Mike got back down to continue the tour of the place.

"So, why did you decide to come work here" Mike asked

"Because it's beautiful, I love to design too and the thought of making someone's dream dress is amazing. I want to be a part of their fairytale"

"Unlike you though, I just love to work here because I love to design. I don't believe in fairytales and all sorts of things like that. They don't exist"Mike explained and Ann didn't understand why someone would believe and think that way. She believed so much in fairytales and happy endings and hoped she would get there someday, she was an hopeless romantic.

"Why would anyone think that way" she questioned curiously as they walked on.

"Fairytales exist, happy endings do too, love is a beautiful thing too" Ann said trying to change Mike's perspective.

"This is the changing room" Mike said as they entered another room. It had beautiful dresses around and a very big mirror hung on the wall.

"It's beautiful" Ann said wowed.

"Yeah, it is"Mike said as he stood watching how ann admired the place.

Mike also showed her to other places like where the clothes where being made and all. Ann's first day was better than she had expected and she was sure she would love it here.

Troy facetimed Ann as she walked back home later in the day. They both talked about how their day went and she told him about how mike didn't believe in all that she did in. Troy suggested they both watch a movie tomorrow and probably talk about it later, or maybe read a book or something. Troy didn't want them to stop having what to talk about, he didn't want anything to change. He had heard stories about long distance relationships and didn't want theirs to be like that. Ann agreed and hoped they both continued like this and never get tired of one another.

"I miss you so much, I think I might just come to New york next month after my project is done" Troy said

"I can't wait for you to come, I am excited already"

"I can't wait either, I miss everything about you" Troy said as he watched Ann drift to sleep slowly. He was now used to watching her fall sleep as they always facetime till late at night. It wasn't so much but it was amazing to witness.
