CHAPTER 4: THE FIGHT IN THE WOODS

My last subject will be at 5 o'clock. It's only 3 o'clock, I still have 2 hours break. I suddenly thought of going around this huge open campus to investigate, and probably hunt Daywalker vampires. There's no fence around the school. The campus' boundary is just lined with trees and is still connected to the woods at the back.
Hmm... I got curious about the woods. It is creepy by just looking at it from the campus. I walked a little farther going to the back of the school. "If only it's dark, I can use my powers to get there immediately. It's difficult to use it during daytime, someone could see me. Oh, well..."
I got into the deep part of the woods, it looked so peaceful but creepy. All I can only hear the chirping sound of birds, crickets and the blows of the leaves due to the relatively strong wind. I used my senses to feel the surroundings, if a vampire goes here.
There was a cracking sound on the left side from a few meters away from my location. I carefully headed to the place where that c***k sound was coming from. I can hear voices from this distance.
"We're alone here," coming from the male's voice.
"Cutie, my beauty doesn't fit in the woods? It can be done on your car." the female said.
"We can't do it there, it'll become a mess. We'll just do it here."
I glanced at the two people wandering in the woods not far from my position. I can see them clearly even from a hundred meter-distance. The man turned his back on me to face the woman and hug her.
Why do it here? Can't they go to a love hotel? There are men who really lack respect for women.
I was about to turn around when the woman suddenly screamed.
I looked back at them. The man, sinking into the woman's neck as he hugged her tightly. A vampire! Why didn't I notice it right away? I came out of my hiding place, ran towards them at a speed of light and called the ugly vampire. "Hey! What is that?"
He let go of the woman he was holding and then he turned to me. The man has blue eyes, and he's one of Justin's companions! He growled at me and showed me his fangs wrapped in blood from his victim.
It's too early for him to feast and kill. I got ready to fight back without showing my fangs. The vampire rushed at me, but I grabbed his right hand with sharp claws, pointing at me to strangle me. He also moved his left hand from the bottom to stab his sharp nails into my stomach, but I also stopped it with my right hand.
"Who are you?! Why are you so strong?!" he said with a husky voice.
"Secret." Then I pushed him hard. His body made a c***k sound as he hit the tree. He fell but got up immediately, his body started fast so I pulled out my wood knife hidden in my knife's ankle strap which was covered by my pants, and as fast as lightning I rushed at him so that he could not continue recovering. I strangled him with my left hand, lifted him into the air, "there is no room for evil vampires like you in this world." Then I thrust the wooden knife into his chest. This is the same wooden knife that my mommy was killed. I use it in my vampire hunting, as a reminder how evil these vampires are.
The vampire knelt down while dying, then he finally collapsed. Gradually he became as dry as wood. I pulled out the wooden knife, wiped it with my handkerchief and then placed it back in my ankle strap. I put out the fire, then burned the handkerchief I used.
I will not burn the vampire's dried body. I will leave it that way as a warning to his companions. I want them to see that they cannot just kill humans here. I saw the ring she was wearing, it was a Lapis Lazuli molded in gold. I burned it to make sure it could not be used by other vampires anymore.
I approached the victim's body. She's already dead but she'll start changing soon. I pulled out a ball of fire then I burned the woman's body. "I'm sorry if your family can no longer see your body. You can also hurt or kill other humans if you become a vampire too."
I offered a short prayer, then I turned around and walked away. I haven't walked too far enough when I felt the heavy presence of another vampire. I listened intently. They are already on the corpse's location. I heard them talking and shouting.
"Daniel!" The woman shouted. "Daniel!"
"Who did it? Find the hunter! I'm sure he's still around. Find him!" the command of a man, and I'm sure it's from the ancient vampire. I remember his voice.
A few pairs of feet I heard running fast toward my direction. I wasted no more time. I have to use my power. Quickly, as fast as lightning I climbed a tall tree, then I jumped up a row of trees. I have to get away immediately going back to school right away so they would not doubt me. I am sure they will never stop until they find the killer ot their friend.
I continuously jumped over the trees to hide my track.. I can see the school from here, it's just a few minutes away, and the vampires are still far from me. They seem to have gone in the wrong direction. I so love vervain, it keeps my scent hidden.
I reached the entrance of the woods at the back of the campus. I calmed myself and walked slowly back to school. I was walking towards the garden when I passed by a fishball and squidball vendor. I bought some to eat and relax for a bit. I was so tired of fighting a vampire and running away from his friends. I can never fight an ancient vampire.
I was about to go back to school when someone called my name. "Vanessa?" coming from a male voice.
I looked at him, it was Justin. I rolled my eyes. "What?"
"Have you seen Daniel? He's one of my friends. The one with the bulky body?"
"Uhm, no. I don't think so. I haven't seen him. I just went here to buy fishballs. You want some?" I offer him.
"No thanks. I don't eat that." He looked around, perhaps to search for his friend.
"Justin." The man with silvery eyes called.
"Oh, Vlad, did you see Daniel?"
"Yes." Its a frugal answer, then he looked at me. I smiled innocently at him, then I offered him my fishballs. "Do you want to have some?"
"No, thank you... Justin, I need to tell you something." He prompted Justin to follow him. They moved away a little, but of course I could still hear them. "Daniel is dead. He was killed in the forest. He seemed stabbed in the heart. No weapon found there. We also saw a burnt human body. It looks like there is a hunter in this area."
"No! Daniel! I want to see his body!" Justin shouted.
"Shh... don't make a scene. There are vermins around. Let's go to the forest." Vlad and Justin headed to the woods.
"That vermin term... he's really heartless. If I caught you victimizing people, you'll be dead soon." I finished eating fishballs, then I walked to the building for my next class. I'm really pissed off.
