A Moment with Her

Good Night

After a long day of school, Ripley couldn't help but get home. She hurled her bag near the doorway and slipped off her shoes to put them in the coat closet. Then her dog "Alice" comes trotting up to her.

            Alice was a 200 pounds Mastiff who had been trained as a security dog for the first three years of her life before Ripley's dad got her after the incident.

Alice proceeds to rub her head against her leg as she collapses on the ground so that Ripley can give her a well-deserved belly rub. Ripley does and ends up petting and kissing her for a while before getting up and taking the leash from the coat closet so that she could walk her.

After an almost two-hour walk, they both come back and Ripley lets Alice run around in the backyard. Ripley then makes some dinner and watches some tv until her brother comes home.  

            It’s 8:30 pm and Yadiel comes home to find his sister cuddled up with Alice on the couch, the TV is left on and a single dirty fork is left behind in the sink. Yadiel scoffs as he shakes his head. This was just like Ripley. Shell clean all the dishes but leave the utensils well, at least he knew that she ate. When he sets down the bag of fried chicken on the counter he suspected the smell to have woken her up because then Ripley got up from the couch and said; 

"Food?" she asked.

"You got a one-track mind kid," He said.

"Hm, is that for sharing?" She said.

"Duh," he said.

She got up from the couch and sauntered over.

"So how was your first day?" 

"Not too shabby my guy, not too shabby at all," she said while rubbing her eyes.

"Anyone interesting?" 

"A few…" she said, grabbing a thigh.

"Anyone started any s**t?"

"A few… but I behaved," She said smiling at him.

"Of course you did," he said with a raised eyebrow as he handed her a biscuit. 

"Nah, I have a good feeling about this one," she sighed.

"I'm happy for you, you deserve to feel safe again,".

"Yeah…" she responded quietly.

"You'll be fine, I promise".

"You and I both know that's an impossible thing to promise," She said looking up at him through her lashes.

The silenced stretched for a while before he asked her;

"Did Dad call today?"

"Nah, but he did say that he was going to try to call us on Wednesday though".

"Oh that's right well I guess that's to be expected since he was just stationed in South Korea two days ago".

"Yeah, you know" She was silent for a moment before saying, "I'm pretty tired I think I'm going to take a shower and head off to bed".

Yadiel nodded his head and didn't attempt to protest with her so she got up and began walking away.

"Night," he said.

"Night" she responded.
