Burning Gold Eyes

Chapter 8 - Present - Samuel Samuel had never felt so free as he felt on that day. It was the first time he fought using his 'new' powers without his life being at risk, even though the disadvantage between his and Joseph's abilities were yet very clear. In human words, the Elder Wolf could be described as a former combatant; He had been trained by one of the best Alphas of his time to become the best leader that any other pack had ever seen.   ... Yet it was a foolish thing which took his crown... Among the supernatural beings, many recognized the man as the best and strongest Alpha in America, thus making Mingan be recognized by many only its name, anyone knew that the Pack was a powerful one. His wisdom was something envied by the younger Alphas, but they would always comment that so much power came to him with a price... The price of never meeting his mate. ... Joseph was the only one of his generation who never met his other half, even though other ones had lost them all along with their titles all over the years. He was the only one who ruled from beginning to end alone, without his other half by his side, until his powers were no longer enough to make him Mingan's Alpha... "Is this all you can do? I thought it would be a fair fight now." Joseph spoke, defending himself from Samuel's attack. He had to recognize that the Hybrid's skills were better now than when they started earlier, even his posture was more confident too. "Shut up, old man!" That was the only thing the Wizard told him back, clapping his hands together with both palms open, beginning a spell. In a quick circular motion with his palms together and eyes closed, he cast a spell, creating a purple light between his fingers before seconds later, something like a bamboo sword was in between his hands. "Amazing, this is something I never saw before." The Elder Wolf commented, praising his partner as they continued their dispute that should be just a training section... Until something went wrong. * * * Despite my earlier dislike of the idea of training with him, the Elder Wolf turned out to be a better teacher than I could even imagine... He always made a point of correcting my posture without interrupting our fight, touching me only when necessary, without taking advantage of the situation like anyone else would have done in his place. "Focus, Samuel!" His louder than usual voice was what brought my mind back to what was happening around me, only to feel the growing instability of my powers. "You have to suppress your powers, or you will end up hurting someone like this." He kept telling me as the sword in my hand felt more like a bomb that would explode at any moment than anything else. "I CAN'T!" I think the fear in my voice was more than clear to anyone. For some reason, I couldn't surprise my powers or even undo my spell from earlier that could bust in everyone present in there at any moment. "I can't do it!" I told him once again, seeing some parents who were with their children on the balcony going back inside before I saw him for the first in his Werewolf form. ... I always thought his Wolf was beautiful, but I couldn't say the same about the creature before me... "SAMUEL!" Chills raced down through my body as I heard him calling my name in such an animalistic voice. Somewhere inside me, I knew he wouldn't hurt me, but my mind didn't agree with it at all after everything I'd lived so far... I took two steps back as he approached, a protective field showing up around me, and I didn't know when I had done it as he asked me to undo the shield.   ... The only thing I could hear then was my heart racing strongly in my chest... I could feel the Pack's eyes on me, and it only heightened my fear that I might end up hurting someone in there... Ending up hurting him... In addition to my usual fear that it might cause them to no longer want me in there, making them send me far away from their lands. ... If they killed me, it was the least of my problems now when I had a place which felt like home finally... "Samuel..." His voice was almost a sigh as I felt his clawed hands touch my shoulders. I had no idea how he managed to walk into the force field around me, but I was sure it hadn't been easy when I saw the marks that looked like blade cuts on his face and body. "Samuel..." He called me again, allowing my eyes to meet his burning gold ones before he pulled me into his embrace, ignoring the sword that seemed to burn even on my hands. "Please, I need you to calm down, or even I will lose control..." ... For some reason, his voice seemed to soothe me like a lullaby... I can feel the sword finally disappear before I return the action, wrapping my arms around him, hugging him for the first time, and allowing the calmness to overwhelm my mind, making the shield around us disappear. "SAM! ELDER ALPHA!" Andy's familiar voice was what broke that moment of tranquility in his arms before he let me go. "Are you guys fine?" "Yes, but I think you better reinforce the spell your father and uncle did on his powers for safety reasons." Before I could say anything, he answered the youngest of the twins, one hand over his eyes not allowing anyone, including me, to see the beautiful gold for last time before he went back inside. ... Probably returning to the room he used in the Pack's house... "Are you really fine, Sam?" Andy asked me again. "The Elder Alpha didn't do anything to you to stop your powers, did he?" The concern was more than obvious in his voice, and for some reason, it just made me laugh as I thought about who he was asking about. "I'm fine, Andy. You like anyone else in this Pack know he would never be able to hurt me." No matter what crime a wolf's Mate might have committed, hurting their other half is something a Werewolf would never be able to do in perfect mental consciousness. "Yeah ... I know," I had the impression that he wanted to say something else to me, but nothing else was said as he did what the Elder Wolf asked him to do, reinforcing the spell before I left to be alone as I wished, just with my thoughts in between the woods. ... Thinking about the golden eyes that I saw for the first time today, yet seemed to be so familiar to me, no even realizing that I was being followed all along...
