Faith
Missy had been right, the party was epic. Even from a block away the music pounding from their shared house could be heard. It was surprising that the police hadn’t closed them down already.
And once you got inside? Then it became deafening. There was so much bass it felt like my ears were bleeding.
“Told you” Missy was leaning in close, but I still couldn’t hear her so it was just a guess as to what she was saying. And I nodded in agreement as we made our way through the throng of people who were dancing with what only could be described as wild abandon in their spacious living room. All the furniture had been pushed up against the walls, leaving a wide clear space as a makeshift dance floor. Several couples were already making out on the sofas and I quickly averted my eyes.
It Wasn’t late, but it looked like the party had been in full swing for a few hours already.
“Drink?”
The voice in my ear made me jump, and I could do nothing but stare down at the large hand squeezing my hip.
Fuck.
Hunter.
I recognised his voice without even looking up at his face.
“Drink?” He repeated, his other hand held out a plastic cup and I took it without speaking. It wouldn’t do to be found out so soon. We would be kicked out in a heartbeat.
Except.. except he wasn’t looking at me like he wanted to kick me out. I didn’t even have words for the way those dark blue eyes were shining. He wasn’t even really looking at me, he was looking at the sexy angel, in the obscenely short dress, not me, Faith.
I nodded my thanks, teeth flashing in a smile I was pretty sure looked more a grimace and his dark eyebrows shot downwards.
Shit.
He as totally on to us.
And where the hell was Missy?
“I don’t think I've seen you around before?” Navy eyes swept over me and I had to fight back the shiver that threatened to overwhelm me. “Of course I can't see your face, what are you hiding under here for?” His fingers were hot as they made a move to remove the mask from my face and I stopped him with my own just in time.
Something, that felt eerily like static electricity shot through my fingers and I stumbled back.
What the hell was that?
“Hmmm” Hunters s fingers were in his mouth and he sucked on them thoughtfully as he stared at me with narrowed eyes. “Interesting”
“What was that?” I couldn’t help it, the words left my mouth in a whisper. The music was so loud I doubt he would be able to hear me but I clasped my hand over my mouth anyway.
“I think our dance is going to have to wait beautiful” Suddenly his hand was gone as he motioned to a very pissed off looking Sebastian who was motioning wildly from the doorway. “Until later beautiful;” His lips were rough on the back of my hand and I wiped the remnants of his kiss on my thigh.
There was something seriously creepy about him. His kiss had my body erupting into goosebumps and I wasn’t sure if it was a good thing or bad thing.
“Was that Hunter?”
“Yeah, where were you?” I whirled on my best friend. We had only been here for minutes and she had already ditched me.
“I thought you were right behind me, and then when I turned away there was a wall of sins between me and the door” She scratched at her chin with one bright red nail. “Its almost like they wanted to get you on your own”
I laughed, bringing the cup to my lips and then froze. No way was I drinking a drink the sins had given me. Who knew what they had put in it? “Except they don know it's us”
“Maybe” She looked at the cup I had just set down and her lips quirked. “They have a habit of cornering you when you are alone though and that’s worrying. Maybe you are the next woman to go missing from this town on Halloween” She wiggled her fingers theatrically,
“Don’t be daft, plus I'm not stupid to drink anything any of them” I tossed my head in their direction, “Put in my hands. I mean have you seen their creepy group costumes?”
Missy laughed a loud bark that caused several people to turn around and stare at her. “They look like some secret organisation. What did I tell you earlier? You are so going to be their virgin sacrifice”
I watched as Hunter's eyebrows disappeared int his hairline. There should be no way he could hear our conversation but he had. A small smile tugged at his lips. Sebastian was frowning. He seemed to do that a lot.
“You need to stop watching trashy tv shows,” I told my best friend as I looped my arm through hers. We had already been separated once. I wasn’t about to let her out of my sight, “Those things don’t actually exist” Missy's favourite tv show was buffy.and it showed. “Plus like I told you earlier” I grinned at her. “The virgin train left the station a while ago”
Hunters smile slipped.
“Now let's go and get some drinks”
