Archer’s P.O.V.
I swallowed, as I was waiting outside of my father’s office. I had just made my decision, and it was now up to me to tell my father about it. This was probably the part that I hated the most about all of this. But still, it had to be done either way. I respected my father too much to keep this from him.
“Come in.” My father called out, as I opened the door and stepped inside. My father was sitting behind his desk as he was hovering over papers. My father was a Beta, the Beta of the Neoma pack. Making me the Beta’s oldest son. Surely, with me being the Beta’s oldest son, I was quite highly ranked already, and maybe I could become a Beta or a Gamma somewhere in the future, once our current Alpha passed on the title to one of his own pups. But unfortunately for him, I had other plans. I had bigger plans. Much bigger plans.
“Father.” I nodded at him, as I closed the doors, giving us some privacy.
“Archer, sit down my boy.” My father waved at one of the chairs, standing at the other side of his desk, and so I did. Even though I could feel the tension in the air already.
“Can I do something for you, son?” My father asked me, as one eyebrow rose up on his forehead in wonder. His dark eyes were in great contrast with his salt and pepper hair. Hair that one day had been as dark blonde as mine was right now. But the dark eyes were something that we did not have in common with my old man, since mine were green, the same as my mother’s.
“I have news I wanted to share with you.” I told him, seeing the expression on my father’s face change. It was as if he knew something was up already, just by hearing the tone of my voice.
“Ok. Tell me.” He nodded, leaning back in his chair as he gave me his full attention.
“Do you know the Grey pack?” I asked him, seeing how he nodded.
“Of course I know them. They are our neighbors. We do business together. Why?” My father asked me, as I saw how the wheels in his head started to turn. Giving me the impression that he already knew why I was here to talk to him.
“Have you heard that the Alpha’s son has died?” I asked him, trying to stall.
“Yes, Archer, the whole world knows by now. Spit it out, what are you worried about?” My father asked me. So, I just nodded, ready to tell him the truth.
“Since The Alpha only had one child, there is no one to take over his title as Alpha. Word got out that the Alpha is looking for someone to follow in his footsteps and take over his title. The Grey pack is holding trials to look for a strong wolf, someone to take over the Grey pack and become the new Alpha. I am going over there to do those trials.” I told him, seeing how my father had mixed emotions on his face. He looked both scared and proud of me at the same time.
“Are you sure about this? This is what you want?” He asked me, his forehead frowning.
“Yes father. I am sure. I am not staying here to obey someone else, when I can be somewhere else and lead the way that I want to lead. I know I can do it.” I admitted to my old man, and he nodded back at me.
“Oh, I know you can do it as well, my boy.” My father nodded, and I couldn’t help the smile that spread on my face, hearing my father speak about me like this. I had worked my ass off to make my father proud, and I was happy to see it had worked out that way as well.
“You will break your mother’s heart if you win.” He sighed, looking out the window. Probably already thinking about my mother and how sad she would be.
“I haven’t won yet.” I countered, seeing how my father laughed at that statement.
“Archer, you might be of Beta blood, but you are an Alpha by heart. You are one of the strongest, bravest and most courageous wolves I have ever seen in my life. Alpha Trevor would be a fool not to let you take over his pack.” My father told me, making my heart swell at his words.
“Then I hope that someday, you and mother can make the move towards the Grey pack.” I smiled back at him. Seeing that now, my father was having deep doubts. And I couldn’t blame him either. He had spent his entire life being loyal to his Alpha inside the Neoma pack. And I have always loved living here as well.
But now, being all grown up, I wanted more. I needed more. I knew my father would understand. My mother, on the other hand, that would be a whole different conversation. And even if my parents would stay living inside the Neoma pack once I would have won, I would just be a couple of packs further. I wasn’t moving out of the country. I needed to spread my wings and now was the perfect time to do so. It really felt as if it was now or never for me.
“Well, then, I wish you all the good luck in the world, my son.” My father smiled at me. Again, pride shimmering in his eyes towards me. I smiled and stood up from my chair, as I walked over towards my old man to give him a hug.
“Thanks dad. I will not let you down.” I promised him, with every intention of keeping my word.
“Oh, I know my boy. I know.” My father sighed, as he patted me on my shoulder.
“Just know that no matter what happens to me and your mother, you will always be the winner.”
******
Howls surrounded all around me, as I was panting and I looked up. I was standing inside the training facility inside the Grey pack. I was staying here the entire week while trials were being held. Ever since coming here, along with other wolves who wanted to fight for the Alpha title, we had been taking test after test after test. Along the way, some had already left home, others had given up but stayed to see who would win. But today had been the day, today had been what it was really all about. Today, we needed to fight. And whoever would stand last, would be the new Alpha of the Grey pack.
My chest was heaving badly, I felt exhausted, broken in some places as well. But as I looked around, my brain finally started to process it all. I was, in fact, the last man standing. I had won! I was about to become the new Alpha of the Grey pack. And as howls filled up the entire training stadium around me, every pack member of the Grey pack seemed to agree with that. I looked around, seeing wounded and even some dead wolves lying around. It had been foolish on Alpha Trevor’s part. He had just pushed everyone inside the stadium at once, telling us to fight until only one man would be left. Creating a war scene, I guess? But still, besides being strong and smart while I was fighting, the Moon Goddess was at my side today as well. And I sighed, as I smiled and finally came to understand that I had finally gotten what I had come here for. I had won. I was about to become an Alpha. This training stadium, these grounds and everything on it, it was all mine. Not that I wanted to have it because I was greedy or high on power. I wanted to lead, I wanted to be a leader, I wanted a place and turn it into the best version that it could possibly be. And now, I finally had the chance to do it. And I would...I would do it!
Alpha Trevor stepped inside the stadium himself, smiling wide at me, as he stepped over towards me, spreading his arms as if he wanted to pull me into his embrace.
“Grey Pack, meet your new Alpha.” He shouted throughout the stadium in his Alpha voice.
“Alpha Archer, soon to be Alpha of the Grey pack.” And with loud screams and shouts of the audience, I was quickly pulled back inside the stadium by Alpha Trevor himself, finally giving me some time to breathe.
“Congratulations, son.” He smiled at me, nodding his head as he was looking at me in awe.
“Thank you, sir.” I nodded, still trying to catch my breath from the fight.
“Please, take a shower. Not to sound ugly, but you look awful right now, your pack will want to see their new Alpha soon. But I am pleased to say, I liked what I saw out there. You will make this pack proud. And I am happy that you came over here to claim the title.” He nodded, patting me on the back.
“Thank you, sir. I will.” I promised the older Alpha, standing right in front of me.
I sighed, deeply, as I made my way towards the showers. Finally, able to get some rest and to be able to clear my head. Since I had shifted into my wolf mid-fight, I had no more clothes on. Nudity was not something that was frowned upon inside the werewolf community, and after winning the fight, I had my mind on other things than to search for a proper outfit to wear. My body was too filthy and covered in blood to do so anyway.
I stepped inside the showers, finding some body wash, as I started to wash away all the dirt and blood off of me, fast. My body was covered in bruises and cuts, and I was pretty sure I had some broken ribs as well. There had been some amazing fighters out there today, even I had to admit that. I had just been lucky, really. And by tomorrow, I would already be healed back up completely. While washing my hair, my body froze, as I spotted movement in the corner of my eye, and as my wolf, Conri, popped up inside of my head, I moved fast, as I turned and pushed a body flush against the wall, only now seeing that it was a woman, a very naked woman. She cried out in fear, as I pushed her against the cold tiled wall, as far away from me as I possibly could.
“What the hell are you doing in here?” I growled at her, feeling how my wolf became furious. When the she-wolf did nothing, other than cry, I pushed her even further into the tiles.
“ANSWER ME!” I roared at her. How dare she come in here and disturb me? Who the hell did she think she was? And who the hell did she think I was? Did she think I was a fool? Some asshole who would just stick his junk into every whole he could find on a daily basis?
“I wanted to congratulate you on your victory!” The she-wolf cried out, clearly now, very afraid of me and the way I had responded to her ‘surprise’.
“By what? Showing up naked inside this shower with me?” I asked her in awe, and I could read the expression on her face. And it all clicked inside of my head. Yes, this was exactly what she had wanted to do. This was the kind of pack that the Grey pack was at that moment. f**k. I needed to change a lot more around here than I had originally thought.
“Let me get one thing straight.” I told the girl, not letting her go and not giving her a chance to get one inch closer to me.
“This is what you are trying to do here, right now. It will not work.” I told her, a growl escaping from my throat.
“I am a good guy. I will not f**k anything that can walk, just because I can. I will only f**k what is rightfully mine, and that is my true mate. The girl who will also be the Luna of this pack. Now surely, I don’t think you would already want to hurt your future Luna, by pulling this kind of stunt, now do you?” I asked the girl, seeing how she shook her head fast. She was afraid for her own life, and in some way, she should be. The last thing I wanted inside of my pack were women who acted this way. Women needed to treasure their bodies and save themselves for their mates. It was the right thing to do in this world. By just having random s*x with whoever, they would hurt their true mate in the long run. Wolves could be so dumb in letting their bodies run by lust, without thinking straight for a damn second.
“Now you get the hell out of here, and you tell all your little friends that the first she-wolf who tries to get in bed with the new Alpha, will be the first one who will lose her head. Understand?” I growled at her. I hated doing this, I hated being the bad guy on day one already. But I knew I needed to do this right now, I needed to put up some hard boundaries, fast, or I would end up in situations like this every few f*****g minutes. There were a lot of she-wolves out there, who would love nothing more than to get their hands on the Luna-title, just for power and the money, but it was not going to work. Not with me, and if I needed to make people fear me, before they would understand that, then I f*****g would make them fear me.
I finally let go of the girl, and saw how she ran away with the speed of light. Finally, leaving me alone, finally letting me be. I sighed in frustration, hearing someone laugh at me. I turned, seeing that some guys had walked into the shower as well. They were the ones who had been fighting along with me, the ones that had lost.
“I can see you have already met Shelly.” He sighed, shaking his head left to right. And I sighed, nodding back at him.
“Don’t worry,” The guy said, lifting his hands as he took the shower next to me.
“I heard what you said, and you did good by that. She will not be bothering you again.” I nodded, leaning against the small wall that came up to my shoulders and which separated my shower from that of my neighbors. I had seen this guy fight in the stadium, he was a f*****g beast. He was really good, almost as good as me. He was tall but fairly slim, mostly muscles without any ounce of fat on him. He had longer brown hair which he was rubbing back as he was now standing underneath the shower, he had a massive cut on his cheek and he was sporting a black eye. Other than that, he seemed fine.
“Archer.” I told him, reaching over the wall to shake the man’s hand.
“Jason.” The guy answered me, reaching over as we shook hands.
“So, why do the trials?” I asked him, as I grabbed the shampoo and started to wash my hair. Jason laughed, probably at himself, before he looked at me.
“I really wanted things to change around here. Change for the better, you know?” He asked me, spiking my interest, and I grinned, as I looked back at the man.
“Yeah… actually, I know exactly what you mean.” I answered him, knowing that this would not be the last thing I would see of him. I liked this Jason-guy, and I could use a guy like him to help me lead this place into the future.
