Barren Berlioz Auclair POV
date: 12:55am January 1 2000
"Yes your highness, a little girl! she was born at midnight! Congratulations on your trueheart being born!"
The voice on the other side sent chills down my spine with his next words. " Make sure she never has to go through any kind of strife or hardships. I will not spare your life if something happens to her. "
I never liked dealing with royalty, even so I have to deal with the most ruthless one. The amercements that come with being the best at my job. Prince Vince. If he didn't sign the magic contract to not intervene in his soulmates life until she reaches the age of twenty, I would be joining Lord Lu in the land of the undead already. His idea of hardships and the actual definition of hardships are two worlds apart.
" I assure you Prince Vince she is in good care with the Bride Trade watching her! I give you my solemn vow I will give my life if I must to make sure she is ultimately safe. As Abaddon’s descendent, I will uphold the unbreakable laws he put in place for human protection and welfare. " I took a deep breath to steady my nerves, knowing he was getting irritated by the grumbling I heard from the other side. I needed to calm his temper before he kills me, and sends someone who is willing to do his bidding to interfere in the life of this innocent baby. " Your Highness! I assure you she will be safe, comfortable, and have someone watching for any dangers twenty- four/ fourteen! "
Ten seconds felt like another eternity before Vince responded. "I think you need more education, there's no such thing as twenty four/fourteen" .
I breathed an internal sigh of relief. " Yes you are right! You are always right your Majesty! The saying is usually twenty-four/seven" I reassured him of my actual intellect. Showing I was suited for the position. Now to calm him down completely, which is something my family has been well versed in, while dealing with the elemental courts for centuries. " I say twenty-four/fourteen to assure you this is how serious we take these situations. Their safety, and well being is no laughing matter to the Auclair family. I am willing to put in more time then what is given, I eternally vow to you. "
I held my breath for a minute. Then I heard the phone click and the beeping sound from the line. The exhale of relief I let out, sent a big gust of wind on our side of the veil making a nurse in the human world shiver from the cold.
My right hand subordinate bowed before speaking. "Apologies for asking, but was making an eternal vow necessary, Barren? You will not be able to take it back and now there's a chance you could get stuck in a time portal if anyone hears of the vow you made."
I walked out knowing my men would follow. I can't bring myself to tell my right hand man how I never promised it would be me exactly risking my life. It was an opened ended promise. Nevertheless there loyalty is second to none, hand picked by me for their brawn only.
Rule number one of the underworld: Never question the person you swear faulty too unless told otherwise.
" Our next stop is Prince Tyson's trueheart" I told them as we left for the second earth hospital of the night.
