I ARRIVED HOME and was greeted with silence. The gates were locked and the doors were closed. I had to call my mother from the outside of our hour thinking maybe they just couldn’t hear me calling her name from the outside. Tip-toeing on my feet, I tried looking from our windows, hoping I could get a glimpse of my mother and let her know that I needed assistance in opening the gate. “Mama!
