Lord Maddison’s POV
As I drove off, I couldn't help but wonder what was actually happening to me. I knew I wanted to help this girl from the first day I saw her crying in her sleep, but I didn't realize it would go to this extent. Something was off about the whole thing, and I tried to communicate with my wolf, but he had been silent for the past four months since the death of my mate and wife, Gracie. I knew my wolf was still with me, but I just couldn't connect with him because he was still in pain and mourning the death of his mate. I was also mourning her, but as a king, I had to be strong for my clan.
The pain I felt four months ago was unbearable. I stayed locked up in my room for days without food and water, and it's a miracle that I survived that phase.
