Chapter 11: Bonds of Family
Knight’s P.O.V:
“You mind explaining what’s going on?” I asked Robert, feeling helpless in a way I couldn’t even explain to myself.
Elena was having a baby. My baby! I was about to become a father! And I only just found out about it. Dear God! Has Elena been sick this whole time? Did she have to deal with this every day? Keena doesn’t get this sick, then why Elena?
Robert sighed audibly. “Look, Knight,” he gave me a stern look. “When I gave you a hint about Elain’s pregnancy, I did it because no matter how awful you’ve been as a man, right now, Elain needs someone to look after her and the baby. I’ve already lost my child, so I didn’t want a child losing its father even before it’s born. But that was all before I heard the word complications.”
My heart sank. “What complications?”
“I don’t know I’m not the doctor!” He waved his hands at himself as if he wished he could be one so he could help his daughter. Both of them. “Helena only mentioned it to me because I told her what I did and then she went storming in after you. But from what I could gather, Elena is sick and there are several problems related to the baby’s birth. The doctor has told her specifically to keep away from all kinds of stress and I’m afraid, that means you’ll have to stay from Elaine for her own good.”
I shook my head, not willing to believe this. Did he really expect me to stay away from my baby? From my heir?
Robert came over to me and gave me a pat on my shoulder. “I know what you must be going through Knight, but if you aren’t careful, you may lose the baby entirely.”
I stood stunned as Robert walked out of the room. I was aware of the music turning back on, of the people screaming outside as someone was declared winner. All the while, I stood right in the middle of the tiny green room and felt my world collapse at my feet.
I was broken out of my trance when a group of young girls came into the room giggling and gushing about the winner. They stopped on their tracks once they saw me and I simply smiled my fake Knight Tyson smile at them and moved out of the room before they got any wrong ideas.
My assistant, Tristy McClave gave me all the details of the show and notified me of everything I missed as I walked out to my awaiting car. Night had fallen over Los Angeles and the city was lit with a million lights, but somehow, all this illumination seemed hollow to me. For the first time, I felt like life was incomplete without the people I’d thought I didn’t need. A family.
Maybe that’s what I’d been searching for all these years? But I’d never expected to find them in such unexpected ways. Meeting Ava would always be one of the biggest disappointments in my life, but I’m also thankful to her because I got to meet Elaine through her.
Now all I need to do is convince the mother of my child that I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.
Elena’s P.O.V:
I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and well slept and for the first time, nausea free. I pulled back my covers and sat up in bed and stretched my arms, relaxing my muscles.
And that was when I realized that my apartment smelled of French toast and freshly brewed coffee.
Smiling, I got off the bed and pulling on my fluffy slippers, made my way to the kitchen. “Hel-“I was about to call out to Helena, but as soon as I saw who it was, my jaw hit the floor.
“LEO!”
“Hey sissy!” Leo took the pan off the heat and put a cup under the coffee machine and turned just in time so he could catch me in his arms.
“What are you doing here?” I hugged my big brother tightly to my chest and the fresh lemony scent of him washed over me, I was hit by a wave of homesickness. “How are mom and dad?”
“Mom is busy as usual and dad is trying his best to balance his work load and make time to come see you.” He broke our hug to cup my cheek with his hands. “How are you feeling today?”
I felt my heart sink. “You know?”
Leo nodded his head; his gorgeous silver blonde hair fell on his forehead like liquid silk and his beautiful violet eyes shore with concern. Leo and I were only half-siblings and fourteen years apart, since Leo, short for Leonard Stayton, was born from my mom’s first disaster of a marriage. He was also happily married with two kids of his own who were in middle school. “Helena told me.” Leo said, but there was no judgment in his eyes, only anger. “I want to kill that son of a b***h who did this to you! Helena told me not to tell you this, but I’m planning to give him a little visit today, show him who he’s dealing with.”
“Leo!” I placed my hands over his. “Please don’t resort to violence, I don’t want you getting hurt and we aren’t in Canada so dad can’t bail you out.”
That brought a smile on his face. “I’m pretty sure dad can bail me out of anything. After all, he’s the CEO of the best security company in all of Canada.”
“That sounds like something dad would say.” I leaned my head against his chest. “Now, what were you cooking when I came in? I’m starved, feed me!”
Leo laughed his big, throaty laugh while holding me tight to his chest. “Come on then, let’s get you fed little kitty.”
This is what I miss the most when I’m here in LA. I miss my workaholic mother who always makes the best pies on Sundays; I miss my father who always takes time off of his busy schedule to take us trekking; but most of all, I miss my big brother who’s always there for me whenever I need him.
I had the best family in the entire world and I want the same for my baby. But first, I’ll need to tell my family about my pregnancy and the reason behind it. I don’t know what adventures this day will unfold, but whatever it is, it sure won’t be pretty for Knight Blaze Tyson.
