Star's POV
I continue to stare at the book Selene handed me, debating if I should begin to read it now or save it for later. "We can more about him after you read his story." I blink my eyes back and forth between the book and Selene. "Okay." I mutter out. "Shall we return to the others?" She asks and I nod my head. Whatever is in this book, I want to share it with Andrew.
When we returned to the dining room, everyone was still there except for Zola and Finn. "Want to take this to the rooftop?" Andrew asks as he is placing two plates and two glasses of orange juice onto a tray. I smile at my mate and nod my head. "Enjoy your breakfast, and I will see you in an hour, Star." I wave to Selene and the others as I rush up the never-ending stairs to the rooftop, Andrew not far behind me.
Th view from up here is breath-taking and calming. "Do you want to talk about it?" I turn my face to the handsome man beside me and sigh. "Selene gave me a book to read." Andrew raises an eyebrow in confusion. "And?"
"And, I'm not sure if I want to know what's inside of it."
"May I ask why not?"
I pull the book out from my bag I always carry with me and hand it to him. He looks just as confused as I did when Selene handed it to me. "What do you think it says?"
I shrug my shoulders, "I have no idea, but I want to read it together, if you don't mind." He gives me a grin, "It will be your bedtime story tonight as I tuck you in for your nap." I slap his arm playfully. "Shut up." I laugh out loud.
Before I know it, an hour passes by and it's time for my daily training with the Moon Goddess. "Hey, could you do me a favor?" I ask Andrew before parting ways.
"Anything for you, my love."
"Talk to Zola."
Andrew's POV
I meant it when I said I would do anything for Star, so I began my search for Zola. This palace is huge and she could be literally anywhere. I decide to check the most obvious room first, her bedroom. I knock on the door, but receive no answer. Letting our a sigh, I knock louder. "Zola? You in there?" I call out, but still no response.
"Hey, do you happen to know where Zola is?" I asked Kurt, one of the bodyguards that I bumped into in the hallway. He shakes his head, but tells me he will let me know if he spots her anywhere. I thank him and continue on my search. If I were upset and wanted to get away from everyone, where would I go?
Most likely outside, away from everyone in the palace. I head back up to the rooftop to see if I can spot her outside anywhere. This would be much easier if I had the eye sight of a wolf or at least the heightened sense of smell. As I ponder about what it would be like to be a wolf, I catch a glimpse of something moving in the distance. Squinting my eyes, I see a blur of something or someone in the meadow.
Rushing back down the flight of stairs, I dart outside to where I saw the moving object. Oh, thank goddess. I found her. Laying in the tall grass is Zola, crying her little eyes out. I feel bad for her. I hate seeing anyone in pain, especially women. I know she can sense my presence, but doesn't say anything. I sit on the ground and lay down on my back, right next to her, just staring up at the sky.
"Zola. You do know Selene was telling the truth about you not being alone. I know for certain that Star and I enjoy being around you and consider you family. We will always be here for you."
"Really?" She whimpers out.
"Yes." I reply. "You're the little sister that I never had."
"Would your sister do this?" Before I can even process her words, she's on top of me, kissing me. I roughly push her off and am quick to stand up.
"What the hell, Zola? You know Star is my girlfriend!" I exclaim, feeling frustrated at her action.
"f**k Star. You don't need her. She's going to spend all her time as Moon Goddess and leave you feeling neglected." She yells back at me. Ah, this all makes sense now.
"Is that how you feel? That Selene neglects you?" I ask sympathetically. That would definitely explain her outburst during breakfast when Selene announced she would be returning to Earth in seven months to live out her remaining life.
"You don't know anything about me and my mom! You shut your damn mouth!" With that, she ran away from me and back to the palace.
Wait, did she say mom? Selene is her mom?!?!
