Aurora’s POV
With my head low, I was a tad bit grateful for their presence because I knew really well that if I had taken that last hit from their father, I would be as good as dead.
“What are you doing, father?” One of the brothers asked as they got closer and I felt chills run down my spine as I shivered.
A part of me could almost tell that I was out of the woods for that moment but there was another part of me that had been infused with so much fear.
The part of me that knew that I could be knocked out at any point in time and that I shouldn’t be too glad that the torture had stopped.
“Teaching this b***h here a f*****g lesson.” Alpha Stone responded as he finally pulled away from me, I watched as his feet stepped back.
“You don’t have to worry yourself with worthless things like her.” Another brother laughed and the rest joined.
“He’s right, she’s not worth your time,” another voice sounded, “you shouldn’t be caught wasting your time on wastes like her.” He added and despite the demeaning words, I heaved out a sigh of relief.
Even if it’s just a couple hours, minutes or even seconds, at least the torment was over for now.
“Why don’t we take care of the trash for you?” Another brother asked and I swallowed the bile that had formed at the back of my throat in fear, I knew what that meant.
“Thank you,” Alpha Stone appreciated, his voice light as he laughed, “GET OUT!” His voice resounded in the study and my fear rather than my drive to get out of the study pulled me up as I made my way to the door.
“Thanks for trusting us,” I heard a voice behind me say and I could feel the intimidating, devilish aura coming from the brothers behind me.
“We’re going to take care of it way more than you think we will.” He finished. Another bile formed in my throat as my hands fell on both my sides.
I haven’t been fighting, why in the world did I think for a second that I was going to put up a fight? They’re going to do what they usually do and I’m going to go back to my cold dark room with bruises all over my body.
Walking with fear engulfing me at the thoughts of the brothers behind me, we soon got to a secluded place, away from prying eyes and I knew that this was it.
The brothers spread out almost as quickly as I knew they would, surrounding and putting me in their midst as they formed a wall that I could never break through around me.
I had no idea why but I raised my head to let them get a good view of my battered face with one eye nearly shut and the other was already bruised purple, a split lip and handprints on the left side of my face.
Why did I do this? So they’d have mercy on me?
No, they're beasts, there’s no way they would have mercy on me. I glanced at Zephyr who stared back at me with an expression I couldn’t read.
For a moment, I felt something tug at my chest and tears welled up in my eyes as I looked away from him to stare away at space, averting every form of eye contact and giving up on everything else and resorting to letting them do to me what they want.
“WOW, you really are one ugly duckling,” Rowan laughed, breaking the silence, “how could the moon goddess give us something like you for a mate.” He continued with his verbal torment.
“Don’t tell me you actually think you’re worthy of being our mate?” He added and I kept mute as I stared away.
I can’t annoy them more than they already are, that would result in more trouble for me and since I’d escaped being beaten up by their father, I can’t afford to dig a hole here.
I could see Hunter grinning from my peripheral vision while Phoenix got closer to me to flick my forehead and poke my cheek.
“Does it speak?” He asked, standing in front of me and making eye contact but I knew better than to fall into that trap and make eye contact.
“Even if it doesn’t speak, it can at least feel pain, right?” Rowan questioned and the brothers laughed as Phoenix walked back to where Zephyr was standing.
He was about to touch me when Zephyr grabbed his wrist and twisted it but made sure not to break any of his brother’s bones.
“I promise I’ll dislocate your fingers, no, your entire arm if you try touching me with the same hand you used in poking the trash.” Zephyr sneered before letting go of his brother’s wrist.
“What? I didn’t really touch her, I just poked her forehead a little.” Phoenix tried to defend himself but the way Zephyr glared at him must’ve caused him to stop.
“Now you’re making me feel like trash.” Phoenix groaned as he reached into his pocket with his right hand and I watched as he took out a handkerchief.
He cleaned his left hand with it, making sure to get whatever stain I might have left on his finger out of it before tossing the handkerchief at me.
“You should feel lucky, that’s an expensive hanky.” He sneered through gritted teeth but I didn’t speak, I didn’t even make an effort to look at them as tears welled up in my eyes.
My eyes stung really badly and it was killing me to not let the tears fall but I dared not let it spill so I kept my sad tears at bay while the brothers had their fun taunting me.
Hunter pulled away from the brothers and they all fell silent at once, I knew what they felt, I could feel it too. Hunter, just like his father, has a fearsome, incredible aura.
He towered over me and looked down at me like I was nothing but a mere cockroach and in my case, with the way he glared at me, Hunter wouldn’t glare at a cockroach that way so I knew I was lesser than a cockroach.
“Speak.” He ordered but I couldn’t bring myself to say anything, my vocal cords were tired and I knew that even if I opened my mouth to say anything, I wouldn’t be able to make a sound.
“I don’t know what you think you are but I’m only going to ask you to speak one more time and if you defy that instruction, you’re going to rue the day you were born and not just that day, you’re going to hate your entire existence.”
The words grinded between his teeth as he spoke and I wanted to tell him that not only do I rue the day I was born, I have always hated everything about my life but I dared not.
“Speak.” He ordered and his voice was heavy with power and authority that made me shiver to my bones as I tried to force a sound out of my mouth.
“I—“ I stuttered, “I don’t know what to say.” I said in a low voice but loud enough for them to hear me speak.
“Really? It does speak!” Rowan said amidst his chuckles like it was surprising to hear me talk and again, I fell silent so as not to push them over the edge again.
“Now,” Hunter started, “whenever I speak to you, you’re to respond as fast as you can, after all, it’s a f*****g privilege to be called our mate.” He gritted out and I nodded, unsure what to say.
“Also, the moment I hear you mention the fact that we’re mates to someone, not just me but the four of us are going to torture you so badly that you would beg to taste death.” He threatened.
“Right, you don’t have bragging rights.” Phoenix chimed in and I scoffed internally because the last thing I want to bring upon myself is admitting that I’m mated to them.
I don’t even want the bragging rights.
Shifting my gaze, my eyes landed on Zephyr again and he glared back at me with irritation and annoyance and in an instant, he was behind me.
“Why the f**k are you staring at me?” He growled as he kicked the back of my knee, causing me to stumble and fall to the ground.
“The next time you make eye contact with me, I’m going to gouge those pretty eyes of yours out and make you eat them.” He threatened as his brothers laughed.
“Listen because I’m only going to say this once,” Hunter continued while I remained on the floor, “you are not worthy of being our mates, you’re nothing but trash to us.” He added.
I knelt with my head bowed as I listened to them go on and on about how they would rather kill themselves than accept the fact that I’m going to be their mate.
“Get the hell up and out of our sight before we change our minds and make your life hell!” Zephyr barked and with my last shred of dignity, I got up and walked as fast as my legs could carry me.
