Hunter’s POV
The day we’ve all been waiting for was finally here and although we all tried to be a bit mature about it, there’s no denying that we’re all excited.
It’s our eighteenth birthday and not just that, it’s also the day we find our mate and our excitement knows no bounds.
The thrill that came with knowing we were going to share one mate was unmatched and since we’ve been sharing a lot of things since we were little, we had no problem sharing a mate.
“Do you think she’s going to be pretty?” Rowan asked and Phoenix sighed as we were all left wondering the kind of person our mate would turn out to be.
“Who do you think she’d be?” Phoenix responded to Rowan’s question with a question of his and both of them were silent as they thought about it.
“Bet she’s going to be the daughter of someone really important.” Zephyr chimed in and they wasted no time in agreeing with him while I watched them bubbling with laughter and excitement.
“Hundred thousand bucks says she falls for me first.” Phoenix proposed a bet that made Rowan flare up at once. He had always taken pride in his good look and for an eighteen year old, Rowan and Phoenix are incredibly childish and playful.
“You really have some confidence for someone who looks like that,” Rowan laughed, “why are you so sure she would fall for you first?” He questioned and Phoenix laughed.
“Have you seen your face, you look like something puked on you.” Phoenix's response sent Rowan into a frenzy as he jumped and pulled Phoenix into him.
Zephyr and I couldn’t hold back our laughter and while mine was a silent laugh, Zephyr’s was a slightly loud laughter as he stood up and attempted to separate our brothers but he soon gave up.
“I don’t know why you’re fighting when we literally look the same,” Zephyr pointed out but that wasn’t enough to make Rowan let go of Phoenix.
They were too into their fight to listen to any other logical conclusion that Zephyr or me could possibly come up with and knowing that I would have almost the same luck as Zephyr if I tried to separate them, I let out a sigh.
My eyes strayed to where a group of girls kicked another girl’s head into a basket of decorations and that girl would no doubt be Aurora.
I also recognized Sasha and a few other girls so it was easy for me to know that the girl being bullied was Aurora. She’s been living with us for as long as I remember and everything about her disgusted me.
She was worthless, has no value whatsoever and she’s also just like the lowest of the low, she was hated and disliked by everyone and anyone took any little chance they got at bullying her, especially at school.
Looking away from her and leaving her to her misery, I can’t let myself be invested in whatever she had gotten herself into because honestly, I hated her too.
“Will you guys just f*****g cut it out!” I almost screamed as I pulled Phoenix away from Rowan with all my strength before he could choke him to death.
“We all look the same so if she f*****g falls for one of us then she falls for all of us!” I said firmly as my brothers remained silent even though they were still mad at each other.
“It’s our birthday and we’re going to find our mate too, do you want her to find you choking each other?” I asked and that seemed to have gotten to them.
“I was really enjoying the show.” Zephyr sighed as he infused himself between Rowan and Phoenix, holding both of them and laughing.
“The party is about to start, let’s have fun.” Zephyr said and we all agreed as we walked around the hall, talking and laughing at each other.
The party soon started and everyone had started finding their mate, it was a beautiful sight but horrible at the same time because it’s been thirty minutes into the party and we’ve had no luck.
Is our mate really here? What if we don’t find her today?
Zephyr’s eyes landed on me and I could tell that he also had the same question running around in his mind, the same goes for Rowan and Phoenix.
“Hey, do you really think we’ll have any luck finding our mate today?” Phoenix, the least one to keep what he thinks to himself, spoke up and I sighed.
“I’m sure we’ll find her.” I assured him even though I wasn’t sure myself and it was almost an hour with everyone finding and bonding with their mates.
Not only was I in doubt but I was beginning to lose hope in finding my mate today and I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me that my brothers felt the same way too.
At least that was how we felt until that good for nothing Aurora walked past our table with a tray of drinks and snacks, causing all four of our heads to snap up at the same time.
Unable to ignore the tantalizing scent, we all stood up at once and chased after the mouthwatering scent to our mate as each of our wolves agreed that she was our mate.
My blood boiled in anger and my fist clenched. This has got to be a joke because there is no way that the moon goddess will let the nobody of the pack be our mate.
What exactly is the moon goddess playing at? Why the f**k will Aurora be our mate out of all of the multiple choice?
I watched with the anger and disgust that I know my brother all felt as the tray fell off Aurora's hand while she stared at us with utmost disbelief.
Her mouth opened but instead of letting out a word, she turned to her heels and stormed out of the hall.
“You’ve got to be f*****g kidding me.” I growled in disgust as Zephyr, Rowan and Phoenix all agreed with me at the same time.
“Aurora? There’s no way she’s our mate, this has to be a f*****g joke.” Phoenix said through gritted teeth, his disgust obvious in his voice.
It was the last thing we expected, she wasn’t even on the list of all the possible girls that could have been our mate and yet the moon goddess had to make a trash bag like her our mate?
After a few moments of groaning and complaining about it amongst ourselves, we made up our minds to head on over and tell our father about this.
Getting to his study where we know he’s most likely going to be, we halted for a moment at the sound of punches and the pain we all felt tugging at our chest left no mystery to who it could be.
“Aurora.” We found ourselves saying at the same time before shaking it off and pretending like we weren’t affected by the fact that she was getting beaten up by our father.
Why does she have to be our mate?
Before today, we would have been totally fine with knowing that she was getting beaten up but now, even though we tried to hide it, I could feel the anger from each of my brothers.
The sound kept getting louder, the hit getting more powerful than the last one and without thinking, I turned the knob, opening the door to see a beaten and battered up Aurora.
I felt something indescribable, it was strange and my hand clenched into a fist as we all yet again witnessed first hand just how much our father hated her.
Her face was all bruised and bloodied and she looked like she was going to drop dead if she had taken that last hit from our father before we walked in.
It’s a miracle that after everything she had been through she was still alive. Unable to stomach the sight of her at that moment, we assured our father that we were going to take care of things.
We walked Aurora out and put off telling our father why we had come to see him in the first place because we all know just how worse her punishment would get if we told him.
She wouldn’t speak, she was no different from a puppet and as each word we said hurt her, I felt my stomach curl and didn’t need a saint to tell me that my brothers felt the same way too.
Hearing her speak somehow soothed that pain but the last thing we were going to do is admit that we really pitied her, that we had really taken her out of our father’s study to save her.
Finally asking her to leave, it was painful to watch Aurora limp away from us. I hated how I felt, I hated the fact that I could feel her pain and hurt and shock mixed with hurt when Zephyr kicked her.
Damn the stupid mate bond!
I looked away from Aurora to take a quick look at my brothers and I could tell that they felt the same way too. We watched her until she disappeared from our sight.
“This is bad, really bad!” Zephyr said and we all agreed with him as we thought of what to do and it didn’t take long to finally come to an agreement.
Our father must never find out about Aurora being our mate.
