Chapter 2
“Mom we have been in this car forever, when are we going to find a hotel and get some sleep?”
“Soon Addie, I made a reservation at a hotel in Tucson when we had last stopped for gas. Its only another hour away.”
“Cool hopefully there’s room service im starving” Addie replies
“There should be some more snacks in cooler to hold you over till we get there hun”
Addie digs through the cooler pulling out some cookies Aunt Kathy had made and a water, handing me a water as well. I smile thanking her.
“Mom, do you think he will want to meet me?
I freeze wishing that she hadn’t asked
“Im sure he thinks about you all the time and wishes he could be in your life but I don’t know if he’s even still in San Diego. He could have moved away.” I lie knowing very well that he wouldn’t leave his MC
“Oh” she replies looking sad
I hate seeing her like this, growing up she has mostly been happy just her and I but there are always little moments where she wishes she had her dad in her life. I had always wished he was in our live top. I have never found a man that make me feel like Alex did. I’d have the occasional one night stand but haven’t had any type of relationship since I left Cali. Nobody I met was ever worth bringing into Addie’s life.
I finally see the exit for Tucson Arizona ahead, I pull off the interstate and glance back at Addie sleeping in the back seat.
“Addie we are at the hotel” I say as we pull into the parking lot of the Mariot
“Finally” she replies sitting herself up and stretching
“Good evening” the lady at the reception desk says to us
“Good evening, checking in for Hayley Micheals”
“Great lets get you ladies all checked in”
“Excuse me miss, is room service still available?” Addie asks the receptionist
“Why yes dear it is, and the chef tonight is chef Charlotte and she is my favorite. Her food is amazing!” says the receptionist.
A smile forms on Addie’s face “Great I'm really hungry!”
After getting all checked in we head to our room. I unlock the door and Addie runs in jumping on one of the beds. I giggle to myself and set down the travel bag I had packed with the necessities we would need for the night.
Addie grabs the room service menu looking through all the options. After deciding she wanted a cheese burger and fries with a strawberry milkshake she hands it to me to look through.
Settling on a chicken Caesar salad I call it in and have Addie get in the bath before our dinner comes.
Laying on the bed I think about all the things to come and hope that they will all be good things and that I can give Addie the life she deserves. I had flown over to San Diego a few weeks ago to have an interview at the local hospital’s ER. I’d be working the night shift to start but the supervisor assured me I would be able to switch to days as soon as a position was available. I was not looking forward to the hours as it ment I'd be home when Addie was at school and at work when she was home. Letting out a sigh I tell myself its only temporary and it will provide for Addie. I lined up a good friend of mine that I kept in touch with all these years to watch Addie while I worked. I was looking forward to seeing Miranda, I haven’t seen her since she visited us in Texas 2 years ago.
A knock at the door snaps me back to reality. I get off the bed and knock on the bathroom door letting Addie know her long awaited dinner had arrived. I open the door allowing the kitchen staff member to roll our dinner cart in.
“Thank you sir” I say handing his a $10 bill as a tip.
He nods his head to me and excuses himself. I set up our plate on the little table in our room just as Addie come out of the bathroom in her pjs. We eat our dinner in silence both too exhausted from the trip. After our delicious meal I put the dishes back on the cart and set it in the hallway while Addie brushes her teeth.
“Goodnight sweetheart, I love you” I say as I tuck Addie into bed
“Night mom I love you too”
I grab my pjs and head into the bathroom for my shower before settling in for the night.
